I freeze at Kai's words, my whole body going rigid. He said he found out who killed my stepmother and I can barely process what that means. "How do you know?" I ask him, my voice barely above a whisper.
That's a stupid question because Kai knows everything. He always does. He's the one who sees things others miss, who digs deeper than anyone else bothers to look.
He hands his tablet to Damon and starts explaining in that calm, detached way of his. "I don't know about the main incident itself, but your stepfather found out a secret about your mother. She was a rogue who lied about her identity when she joined the pack. It made him angry, angry enough to want her dead."
