James was so shocked he couldn't stand still. He hastily said, "No, no, 2 billion is enough."
With this 2 billion, James was confident his company could join the hundred-billion club by dominating the Europe and Italian markets.
By then, his own company would have the ability to join the ranks of billion-dollar enterprises!
Immediately, James called his secretary in, who was holding a beautifully wrapped long box.
From it, he took out a scroll, smiling. "Mr. Kaur, this is an original Da Vinci painting from my collection. I've cherished it for years, and today it's my heartfelt gift to you."
As a renowned collector in the country, James's gift was truly valuable!
On the market, Da Vinci originals fetched millions, even tens of millions.
But for James, this painting was a trivial gift compared to Mr. Kaur's investment.
Lukas glanced briefly and nodded, saying, "Thank you, Mr. Barrett." With that, he casually tucked Da Vinci's original under his arm and left the private room with Dougie following behind.
Just outside the room, Lukas encountered a middle-aged man in a suit approaching with a smile on his face.
"Mr. Kaur, please stay. I'm Monty Phillips, the owner of Elite Bistro," said Monty.
Lukas and Dougie stopped in their tracks, looking at the middle-aged man in confusion.
Monty was deeply impressed upon seeing Dougie behind Lukas!
Exactly as James had said, a young man accompanied by Eldoria's wealthiest naturally was a big shot.
"Mr. Kaur, Dougie, I apologize for not welcoming you earlier. This is Elite Bistro's Platinum VIP membership card. Please accept it if you don't mind," Monty said. He was determined to make friends with Lukas tonight.
Lukas glanced indifferently at Monty, took the Platinum VIP membership card, and casually said, "Thanks." Then, he walked away without further ado, leaving Dougie to handle the rest.
Dougie waited a moment and then said to Monty, "Mr. Monty, my young master doesn't like publicity. If anyone asks..."
"I understand, I understand! Dougie, rest assured, besides me, no one else will know Mr. Kaur's identity," Monty immediately assured him.
Turning his gaze back to Lukas, he did not choose to take Dougie's Bentley but left Elite Bistro on his own, preparing to hail a cab. However, as soon as he stepped out, he bumped into Eira! 'Oh no, meeting Eira here, how should he explain?'
"Lukas, what are you doing here?" Eira appeared at the entrance of Elite Bistro with a group of well-dressed men and women.
She looked at Lukas in puzzlement, who hastily explained, "I'm here delivering pizza."
Delivering pizza? To a restaurant? Eira furrowed her delicate eyebrows, her expression turning cold. Seeing Lukas being so submissive made her angry. What's more worrying was her fear of her colleagues seeing Lukas.
However, at this moment, an unpleasant male voice interrupted.
"Mrs. Kaur, is this your pizza delivery husband? Looks quite ordinary, really like a freeloader." The voice was quite unpleasant. Looking up, they saw a fat-headed man with a beer belly, sneering at Lukas.
'Whether or not I'm a freeloader is none of your business, and besides, are we even acquainted?' Lukas pursed his lips and had no intention of engaging, turning to leave.
But the fat guy wasn't going to let him off, blocking Lukas's way, and sarcastically continued, "Ignoring people? Quite arrogant. I heard your startup failed, and now everything you have is thanks to Mrs. Kaur. You're quite shameless for a man to live off a woman."
Lukas frowned deeply, extremely displeased. He knew this guy, Adrian, the marketing manager at Eira's company. He had once made advances towards Eira and got taught a lesson by Lukas. Unexpectedly, now that he saw Lukas in decline, he began mocking him shamelessly.
The other colleagues, at this moment, were all looking at Lukas with strange eyes. They more or less knew Lukas; he used to be a vigorous entrepreneur, but now he was just a loser delivering pizza.
Eira stood among the crowd, frowning, and glanced at Lukas, feeling embarrassed. "Lukas, you better go back," Eira said.
Adrian raised his eyebrows upon hearing this, his disdainful gaze intensifying.
Other colleagues also smirked. 'Lukas is truly a failure. Even his wife despises him.'
Lukas didn't want to stay for another moment and turned to leave immediately.
But Adrian persisted, saying, "Lukas, don't go. Why not join us for dinner? Your wife just signed a million-dollar deal yesterday. You couldn't achieve such performance even delivering takeout for ten years. Let's celebrate together."
"No need, I have to go to the hospital," Lukas replied icily. Even his wife was urging him to leave; why would he stay here to make things awkward? Oh, how would Eira react knowing he facilitated that deal for her?
Adrian wouldn't take no for an answer, dragging Lukas back into the restaurant. He even intimately draped his arm around Lukas's shoulder, saying, "No need to be embarrassed; after all, it's your wife treating us. Let's not waste the opportunity."
Thus, they entered the lobby of Elite Bistro, with Lukas being forcibly dragged in but still standing alone in a corner.
Meanwhile, Eira stayed with her colleagues, excitedly explaining how she closed the deal.
"Mrs. Kaur, are you saying someone helped you close the deal?" one of the beautifully dressed women exclaimed in surprise.
Eira nodded and said, "Mr. Carr from EnerPharm was giving me a hard time. You all know he invited me to dinner several times. But yesterday, he received a call, suddenly signed the deal with me, and sincerely apologized."
With that said, Eira couldn't help but glance toward Lukas, who was standing awkwardly in the corner. She couldn't help but feel a little disappointed and disheartened. She really hoped that was Lukas's doing, but she knew it was impossible.
"Wow, who's secretly in love with our Mrs. Kaur, helping her like this? It's a million-dollar deal!" The girl, Mila Hunt, screamed again, deliberately speaking loudly so Lukas could hear.
'Look at you, you loser, your wife's attracting admirers, and here you are standing like an i***t. What a loser!'
As everyone chattered away, Adrian approached with a conflicted expression, saying, "We can't eat here; apparently, reservations are required, and only members can make on-the-spot reservations."
Adrian couldn't believe Elite Bistro required reservations. And to become a member, you needed to spend over a million annually! Spending a million a year on meals, that was really living large.
Eira immediately stood up, looking embarrassed. "What do we do? Should we go somewhere else? Today was supposed to be my treat, and now this..."
"Ah? No way, Mr. Taylor, we came all this way," someone said.
"Mr. Taylor, you've got to figure it out; I heard Elite Bistro is really good."
"If not, let's just go somewhere else."
Some began to complain loudly.
Adrian was also helpless; he had been trying hard to impress Eira. But where would he get this one-million membership card?
"Why don't we go to Golden Hut instead? They require reservations here too. I can't do anything about it," Adrian shrugged.
The loudest woman earlier, Mila, Adrian's secretary.
Mila walked over with her long legs and hooked Adrian's arm, coquettishly saying, "Mr. Taylor, this is my first time here; didn't you say you knew the manager here? Ask him to add a table for us."
Upon hearing this, Eira and her colleagues also looked expectantly at Adrian. Adrian was in a difficult position. He didn't really know any manager; he was just boasting when he came.
"Um... that's not a good idea. Let's not put anyone in a tough spot. Let's go to Golden Hut; I'll treat," Adrian Taylor quickly said.
Eira also hurriedly apologized. "Sorry, let's go to Golden Hut; it was supposed to be my treat anyway. Let's not trouble Mr. Taylor."
Several colleagues glanced icily at Eira and then turned away in displeasure.
At that moment, a voice shattered the silence.
"I have a membership card here. Would you like to use it?" Lukas in the corner suddenly offered.
Lukas couldn't hold back anymore. After all, Eira was his wife, and being criticized like this by her colleagues made him feel uneasy.
"You have a card? Lukas, you're quite the talker. Do you even know where we are? Elite Bistro's membership cards require an annual spend of at least one million!" Adrian's sarcastic words rang out again.
His colleagues beside him also looked at Lukas with disapproving eyes, their faces filled with mockery.
Eira was also taken aback, looking at Lukas with embarrassment. She walked over, pulled him towards the door, and whispered, "What are you doing? Hurry back to the hospital to be with our daughter."
Lukas didn't explain further. If they didn't want his help, he might as well leave.
However, Adrian became interested. He sneered, "Mrs. Kaur, don't be in such a hurry. Since your husband claims to have a membership card, why not have him book a table for me?"
Adrian's face was full of ridicule, eager to see Lukas embarrassed. This guy really loves to brag. Didn't he hear just now? Even the silver membership at Elite Bistro requires an annual spend of one million!
"Lukas! Stop messing around and go back!" Eira said icily, suppressing her inner anger.
Why did he have to jump out at a time like this? Is humiliating himself in front of others fun? She couldn't lift her head in front of her colleagues when they talked about her husband.
It was so infuriating!
"Eira, I really do have a membership card," Lukas said calmly.
With that, Lukas took out a card from his pocket and flashed it before everyone's eyes.
Adrian and the others were surprised. Could it be that he really had a card? But then Adrian's expression turned even more mocking.
"Lukas, this isn't your pizza shop's membership card, is it?" Adrian mocked shamelessly.
Lukas, however, looked at Adrian as if he were an i***t.
This annoyed Adrian. Why was Lukas so calm? Could that card actually be real? No way!
Just then, Mila, in high heels, snatched the membership card from Lukas's hand. Arrogantly and rudely, she smirked, "Since Mrs. Kaur's husband claims it's a membership card, let's give it a try."
With that, she took the card and swayed her rounded, perky buttocks as she ran towards the front desk.
Seeing this, Eira couldn't stop her. She could only stomp her foot angrily and glare at Lukas. "Lukas, you've really disappointed me!"
Yeah, this man, at a time like this, still wanted to pretend. Now, once the lie was exposed, not only he lost face, but she would as well!
The mocking smiles on Adrian and the other colleagues' faces grew even fuller.
"Let's go, let's go. Thanks to Lukas today, let's hurry and see if it's booked," Adrian said gleefully, eager to see Lukas embarrassed. He had a whole slew of remarks ready to go, waiting to mock him.
While laughing, they surrounded Lukas and Eira and headed towards the front desk, afraid that he might run away.
At the front desk, Mila held the card arrogantly and glanced at Lukas, deliberately swaying it, then said, "Could you check if this card can reserve a private room for me?"
Everyone held back their laughter, waiting for Lukas to embarrass himself.
