Dad went flying backwards from the impact of the blast. He fell down the stairs, smacking his head against the steps on his way down until he landed face down on the floor. “Dad!” I cried out, rushing over to him and kneeling over him. “Dad, are you okay? Can you hear me?” I quickly checked Dad’s pulse and found that it was still active, much to my relief. Even so, I could tell that Dad was in no shape to stand up. He might have even broken a bone or two, but I wouldn’t be sure until I woke him up later and asked him. A low growl made me look up the stairs.
