CHAPTER2

Andrea's drive back to New York was filled with a flurry of thoughts and emotions. The revelation about Mila Blakes and her son Arthur was monumental, but it also raised more questions than answers. Who was Ceaza Thompson beyond the puzzling billionaire the world knew? How had he come to be in a relationship with Mila, and why had their love story ended in such secrecy and heartbreak? Once back at her apartment, Andrea wasted no time diving into her research. She started with the basics; Ceaza Thompson's public personality. Born into a wealthy family, Ceaza had taken the business world by storm with his tech innovations. By the age of 30, he was already a billionaire, with his company, Thompson Technologies, leading in AI and cybersecurity. He was known for his reclusive nature, rarely giving interviews and keeping his private life fiercely guarded. Andrea sifted through old newspaper articles, interviews, and press releases. She found a few mentions of Ceaza's early life, his parents' untimely death in a car accident when he was 15, his rapid ascent in the tech world, and his reputation for being a ruthless business person. But there was little about his personal life, especially about any romantic relationships. Andrea needed more than just public records. She needed to talk to people who knew Ceaza personally. She made a list of potential contacts: former colleagues, business partners, and anyone who might have insight into his life beyond the boardroom. Her first call was to David Carter, a retired executive who had worked with Ceaza during the early days of Thompson Technologies. David had been a mentor to Ceaza, and Andrea hoped he could shed some light on the man behind the corporate facade. "David, this is Andrea Ethan from *The New York Gazette*. I'm working on a piece about Ceaza Thompson, and I was hoping you could share some insights from your time working with him." David's voice was cautious but warm. "Andrea, I've read your work. You're thorough and fair. I’ll talk, but you need to understand, Ceaza values his privacy more than anyone I've ever known." "I understand, and I appreciate your willingness to speak with me. Can you tell me about your experience working with Ceaza?" David paused before speaking. "Ceaza is one of the smartest people I've ever met. He was always ahead of the curve, always thinking five steps ahead of everyone else. But he's also very private, almost to a fault. Even when we were working long hours, side by side, he never talked about his personal life." Andrea noted this down. "Did he ever mention any relationships, anyone special in his life?" David hesitated. "There was one time, about a decade ago. He was distracted, which was unusual for him. I remember asking if everything was alright, and he mentioned a woman, Mila. He didn't say much, but it was clear she meant a lot to him. Not long after that, he seemed to withdraw even more. Whatever happened between them affected him deeply." Andrea's heart raced. This was the confirmation she needed. "Thank you, David. That helps a lot. Do you know anything about why they separated?" "No, he never talked about it. But I remember thinking that it must have been something significant for him to change so much. Ceaza's always been guarded, but after that, he built walls around himself that no one could penetrate." Andrea thanked David and hung up, her mind buzzing with the new information. Ceaza Thompson was a man who had experienced deep emotional turmoil, and Mila had been at the center of it. Her next call was to Stephanie Mark, a former PR executive at Thompson Technologies. Stephanie worked closely with Ceaza, managing his public image and handling media inquiries. "Steph, this is Andrea Ethan from *The New York Gazette*. I'm writing a profile on Ceaza Thompson and would love to get your perspective." Stephanie laughed softly. "Ceaza Thompson is a riddle, Andrea. If you're trying to understand him, good luck. I've worked with him for years, and I still can't figure him out." "That's what makes him so fascinating. Can you tell me about your experience managing his public image?" "Well, Ceaza was very particular about what information got out. He controlled everything, his appearances, his statements, even the photos that were released. He never wanted the media to know too much about him. It was all about maintaining a certain image." "Did you ever handle any rumors or stories about his personal life?" Stephanie sighed. "There were always rumors, but most were baseless. There was one, though, about ten years ago, that had some truth to it. It was about a woman he was seeing, Mila Blakes. We had to work hard to keep that out of the press. Ceaza was adamant about protecting her privacy." "Do you know why their relationship ended?" "No, Ceaza never discussed it. But I remember it was a tough time for him. He became even more reclusive, if that's possible. It was like he shut down emotionally." Andrea thanked Stephanie and ended the call. The pieces were starting to come together. Ceaza's relationship with Mila had been significant, and its end had profoundly affected him. But why had he kept their child a secret? Andrea knew she needed to dig deeper into Ceaza's past. She turned her attention to Mila Blakes. Mila had been a rising star in the art world, but her sudden disappearance had raised eyebrows. Andrea found old articles praising Mila's work and interviews where she spoke passionately about her. "Mila Blakes's art is a reflection of her soul; vivid, emotional, and deeply personal. In her latest exhibition, she explores themes of love, loss, and identity. 'Art is my way of processing the world,' Mila says. 'Every piece is a part of me.'" Andrea wondered how much of Mila's art had been influenced by her relationship with Ceaza. She needed to see Mila's work for herself. Maybe there were clues in her paintings that could provide more content. Two days later, Andrea found herself in a small, upscale gallery in Chelsea. The owner, a petite woman named Miriam, greeted her warmly and led her to a private room where several of Mila's paintings were displayed. "Mila's work is extraordinary," Miriam said. "Each piece tells a story, and there's a depth of emotion that's rare to find." Andrea walked around the room, taking in the paintings. Each canvas was a burst of color and emotion, but one in particular caught her attention. It was a portrait of a man and a woman, their faces partially obscured, but the connection between them was palpable. The title read "Eternal Echoes." "That's one of her most famous pieces," Miriam explained. "It's said to be inspired by a great love she experienced. There's a lot of speculation about whom the subjects are, but Mila never confirmed." Andrea stared at the painting, feeling a chill run down her spine. She was almost certain the subjects were Mila and Ceaza. The painting was a testament to their deep connection and the sorrow of their separation. "Do you know if Mila is still painting?" Andrea asked. Miriam nodded. "She is, but she doesn't exhibit anymore. She sells her work privately. I've heard she still creates beautiful pieces, but only a few people have seen them." Andrea thanked Miriam and left the gallery, her mind swirling with the possibilities. Mila's art was a window into her soul, and through it, Andrea could see the love and pain that had shaped her life. Back at her apartment, Andrea reviewed her notes. She had gathered a wealth of information, but there were still gaps. She needed to understand Ceaza's perspective. How had he coped with losing Mila and their child? Why had he chosen to keep their son a secret? Andrea decided to reach out to Ceaza directly. It was a long shot, but if she could get him to talk, it would be a breakthrough. She composed a carefully worded email, explaining that she was working on a profile about his life and wanted to give him the opportunity to share his side of the story. Two days later, to her surprise, she received a response from Ceaza's assistant, Jacinta James. "Mr. Thompson has agreed to meet with you. Please come to Thompson Technologies headquarters tomorrow at 10 AM." Andrea's heart pounded as she read the email. This was her chance to get to the heart of the story. She spent the evening preparing her questions, focusing on finding a balance between sensitivity and journalistic rigor.
