Chapter 6 : Magnus

713 Words
I am the Director General of the Elite soldiers and my name is Magnus. Not a lot of things can surprise me, but I was utterly surprised and horrified when I got word that the eligible citizens of Kader will take part in the Vicario. This is an unusual request or should I rather say demand. What makes it more unusual is that I was ordered to ensure that every eligible female participates, if not, there will be dire consequences for the citizens of Craig. It is only a few of us that is in charge of Craig that really knows how strong the Immortals are, we are called by the citizens of Craig as the Incharge. Our forefathers signed a treaty with the immortals where we would give them 12 pure souls, the Vickry, every year during a ceremony called the Vicario and in return we live in peace and harmony without threat or fear from the Immortals or their world. No one knows what happens to the chosen Vickry once they leave Craig, not even me. This year my daughter Kelly is of age and will participate in the Vicario. I was seated at my desk when one of my men reported that it might be necessary for us to use force to get all the girls to attend the Vicario. The threat made by the representative sent on behalf of the immortal is too great. This must be a very serious issue. The immortal has sent his second in command, Titanium, to give the order to secure every female of age in the Kader village. Failure is not an option if I want to leave with my head intact after the Vicario ceremony! I will have to gather my troops to ensure we round up all the females for the ceremony. My heart constrict, as I think back upon seeing Titanium for the first time last evening. I was enjoying supper with my family when he appeared out of no where! Luckily Kelly was not home to see the menacing ways of the immortals. She surely would have elected not to participate after witnessing the cold menacing way in which Titanium conveyed his Kings wishes to me. The Incharge has devised a grand illusion about the Vicario, it's rewards and the elite status of getting chosen. The matter of the fact is we don't know a thing of what happens to the chosen Vicario, apart from receiving an obscene amount of gold after each Vicario Gala. I struggle to contain my fear. If I fail, my whole family will be killed. A cold death grip sweeps its way over my heart, my body refuzes to move. I say to myself "I am Magnus, the invincible, the leader of the Elite and thus far defeat-less!", however Titanium puts the fear of the almighty God in my heart. If he is this cruel and cold, I refuse to think what his King must be like! We have only heard the tales about the cruelty of King Zackreigh. How he never forgives if betrayed and if one finds themselves in the unlucky position of betraying the King, the sentence is instant death. I have been told by Titanium that if I am unsuccessful in bringing him the one his King seeks, My family and I will have the privilege to meet his King. Believe me when I say that no one will see it as a privilege to meet King Zackreigh. If the tales are true one dies at the mere touch of the King. I don't know how old the King is, but we the Craig, has been under their rule for past millennia and thus far there is nothing in our history books that tells of any mortal ever meeting the King of the Dark World. I force myself to focus as the stakes are too high and failure is not an option. My descendants will be known to be cursed for generations if I don't succeed in complying, hence I work right through the night to devise a strategy and plan. A strategy that leaves no room for failure, as I am beyond motivated to succeed in my task and as the prize is life, breath for my family and I.
