Will stopped admiring his suit and moved to help Perkins. “Stop,” Perkins ordered. Will swayed, trapped between doing as he was told and his sense of decency to offer assistance. “You are glorious.” Will’s face hardened, but he blushed blood red. His eyes were wide and disturbed. I saw his distress mounting. Something was wrong. I cleared my throat. “Would you finalize the bill, Mr. Perkins?” Perkins flinched as though he’d forgotten I existed. He huffed as he struggled back to his feet, swaying and creaking. I reluctantly offered my arm, which he took, leaning on me heavily. He plodded away, muttering to himself.
