Chapter 003 Tristan’s Point of View The room filled with sunlight, which forced me to wake up. I groaned while pushing my face further into the pillow to escape the harsh light. I despised how my leisurely mornings, where I could sleep until I felt like it, vanished from my routine. All aspects of my life were headed towards drastic transformation. My official title as Alpha King of the Shadowridge Pack would arrive in a few days, which meant I had to abandon my personal lifestyle. No more lazy mornings. I would receive the crown soon, which brought new huge responsibilities that would change everything. Years of training to become Alpha King prepared me for the life I was about to enter. My dedication over the years to become Alpha King led my community to respect me deeply. In the years leading up to now, I completed rigorous training among future leaders to learn how to control my destiny. While I succeeded the Shadowridge Pack as leader in Hamilton, New York—the top pack in town—it meant responsibility and not just holding a leadership position. The power of the pack increased from its united forces with the Frostclaw Pack, making the pack nearly invincible in every battle. The benefits of this position required me to pay a significant cost. I dedicated every resource I had throughout the years to prepare for this moment. The hardest sacrifice I made was maintaining distance from Lila Emory Carlton. My childhood love remained my true belief until the path to Alpha King separated us. My relationship with my Beta had created further problems because Lila started developing feelings for him. There existed no desire in my heart that Lila didn't fulfill. She possessed a beautiful heart and strength. I would select her as my queen even though she wasn't my destined mate. The choice I made proved difficult to make. My parents didn’t approve. Freya, my sister, disliked her, and Carter shared her opinion. The thoughts of everyone around me about us reinforced the troubling questions that accompanied the doubts. Their opinions could not sway my decision. The difficulty increased because of Lila’s mutual conflicts with my pack members. Despite my closest ally Magnus being both my first supporter and the next Alpha of the Frostclaw Pack, I found he responded differently toward Lila. He believed she was concealing her real identity from me, which led me to doubt everything. Every time doubts crept in, I remained faithful because my heart would not accept them. The reason why I trusted Lila remained absolute because not a single thing could alter this. The presence of Elsa caused me more frustration than anything else. Elsa served as Magnus’s twin sister, and she managed to irritate me constantly. The amalgamation of her violet eyes with her tender smile combined with her effortless power created a state of confusion in me. She wasn’t like Lila. The queen I needed should have had a commanding presence, which she did not possess. Her kindness and caring nature existed, but they failed to meet my Alpha King requirements. Fenrir, my wolf, showed his disagreement with me. Whenever Elsa came close, Fenrir would growl and attempt to ward her off. It was maddening. Why couldn’t I focus on Lila? She became my chosen partner because I wanted to spend my life with her. Fenrir’s persistent response to Elsa forced me to pay attention. When I forced myself to concentrate on important matters, my mind brought up Lila’s upcoming birthday. The ideal present for her was my goal so she could understand my deep feelings for her. I thought about asking Magnus for help but knew he would tease me about it. A sharp knock on the door interrupted my plans before I could return to them. Sophie entered the room with an angry red flush on her face. Something didn't add up when Sophie entered my room, but I prepared myself for what disrupted because she usually walked in with something serious. “Sophie, what’s going on? Why do you look so upset?” I asked her what happened while expecting the worst news. Sophie stood there with folded arms across her chest while her face turned bright red from frustration. Your girlfriend caused this whole mess! she snapped. She stormed into my room and took my dresses and jewelry without permission before telling me I had no control because I would become the Luna Queen. My stomach twisted when I looked at her. Sophie didn’t make a fuss over small things, which told me this problem was serious. Right before I began speaking, Christina took over in front of me with tearful eyes. She shouted back with a trembling voice, "That’s not true!" I didn’t intend to take anything without asking your permission. I thought you wouldn’t mind. I’m sorry if I upset you.” I did not expect Lila’s apology to feel this impactful in me. I felt bad whenever her voice broke during crying because those sounds always affected me. I pressed my temples together to regain my composure while my gaze shifted between the two girls. I told you this before, Lila, as I spoke softly to maintain harmony. Before you take anything, you should get permission. I would have assisted you when you needed help, but you must ask before taking anything. Sophie showed just a softening of her face, yet hurt remained visible through her eyes. “Right,” she said quietly. My trust in your word should have been stronger than hers. A wave of frustration washed over me. “Sophie, don’t—” She interrupted me before I could finish my sentence. “No, Rupert. Don’t bother. I’ve got it all figured out. I will no longer be present. I will move out when my school term ends. Our interactions will end because I won’t be around anymore. I was speechless. The reality before me defied my mental image of what would happen. My closest friend, Sophie, started walking away from me, and the pain hit me with unexpected force. She turned around abruptly and left in anger while the door banged shut behind her. I remained motionless while a heavy pressure settled over me. Their fight went beyond ordinary miscommunication between Lila and Sophie. I realized all of this represented deeper underlying issues. I never had any indication about the hidden problems growing beneath our relationship. Fenrir growled inside my thoughts, which matched the anger surging through my mind. His frustration matched mine, but I needed to concentrate on something else at this moment. Lila moved toward me while her face showed both softness and apology. “I’m sorry, Tristan. This situation was never my intention. The burden of everything became overwhelming as I stared at her. The apology you offered doesn’t undo the past events I just told you. You must pay more attention to your actions, Lila. I need to avoid this drama at this moment. The door shut behind her after she left the room with a silent nod, and Fenrir’s voice reminded me once more that Lila wasn’t our match. I cut Fenrir off with a sharp command to stop talking. My attention must remain on future events. The bathroom walk was both a destination and a retreat to achieve mental clarity. The combined stress from Lila's fight against Sophie and my upcoming Alpha King role became unbearable. I refused to let these thoughts pull my attention away. My impending coronation stood secure since nothing existed to intercept it.
