ADI-MAILAGU IS AN EVIL goddess who steals souls and consumes shadows. She appears as a beautiful maiden who seduces men or steals children’s shadows and lives in an ivi tree. When a shadow is eaten, its owner becomes sick and dies. She also appears as a large gray rat or a crone, who harms those she doesn’t like.
Offerings are made to ensure safe passage through her jungle, while her followers bathe and massage rats with oil to gain her favor.
