EL CALEUCHE - CHILOTE’S PHANTOM SHIP
EL CALEUCHE IS A THREE-masted ghost ship crewed by the souls of drowned sailors or zombies. The ship sails off the coast of Chile and around the island of Chiloe.
El Caleuche is a living creature that vanishes when you get too close. It’s older than the Flying Dutchman and other phantom ships. Many believe El Caleuche lures fishermen to join its crew, and supernatural beings like sorcerers or brujo use the ghost ship for traveling.
El Caleuche can sail underwater and is the only thing capable of reaching a great treasure. People who suddenly get rich are said to have made a pact, and El Caleuche delivered their wealth overnight.
