PELE’S SISTER THE SEA GODDESS—NAMAKA
NAMAKA’S FULL NAME is Nā-maka-o-Kahaʻi which means eyes of Kahaʻi. Kahaʻi was a Hawaiian demigod.
Namaka controls Hawaiʻi’s harsh ocean currents and waves.
She is Pele’s older sister, and while Pele is seen in lava, Namaka appears in the ocean.
When Pele seduced Namaka’s husband, the ocean goddess killed Pele’s physical form. But Pele became the goddess of fire, allowing her spirit to wander Hawaiʻi and the sisters to continue their feud.
