THE MISTREATED PRINCESS
Inspired by folklore
When Tonga and Samoa were at war, peace was attempted with the marriage of Tonga’s king and a Samoan princess. Her name was Leutogitupaˈitea, or Leutogi. Leutogi would be his second wife, and she hated leaving her beloved Samoa.
Fighting resumed between Tonga and Samoa, but Leutogi was stuck in Tonga. She was resented by her husband; his wife, the queen; and the court, who viewed her kind heart as a weakness. But the young prince was the worst. He threw things at Leutogi and called her names. Everyone encouraged the prince to avoid being his next target.
The village followed the court, and everyone mistreated the princess, including her retainer.
