Chapter 10 - Its ...

2879 Words
Heading back out the front I'm greeted by one of my regulars, Jim, wrinkled suit and day-old jeans clearly worn out from being in the closet for far too long, Cheap perfume makes my nose burn as he stood there with flowers in hands like an allegiance. Eyeing him up and down playfully "New Date?" I laugh coming around. "No, the same one, I think she actually likes me this one Aye." Irish coated accent flows out of him with heart shaped eyes, Mr. Jim was just like me once upon a time, A hopeless romantic. Hell at this point I am ready to go marry myself. Luck seemed to have picked him in the jar of misery. Mr. Jim has been seeing this woman for over two years now, after rejection after rejection and dates just not working out the 5'4 man hit the gold at the end of the rainbow. A part of me will miss the times he would come just to release the stress of how he'll die alone he always knew it was too late for kids, so his fate was settled. Nowadays I barely even see him anymore, this is the first time in months. "Ohh, when is the wedding?" I teased. "We're too old for that, but you're invited to the courthouse as my guest". He teased back, yet a part of me felt as though he wasn't. "I'm so proud of you, when are you going to bring the lovely lady by? I haven't met her; you haven't even told me much about her". "Il keep you hear for the longest time." he smugly says c*****g his head to the side. "What's the difference from before?" I reply crossing my hands expectantly. "Mmm alright you convinced me" I could never get enough of his Irish accent, after living in New York for more than 40 years he would have adapted to the slang and accent of a New Yorker by now but quite the opposite. "Intelligent is the first word that comes to mind, adventurous, her background was really questionable I'll say the least." his eyes look up the ceiling behind me staring into space questioning something's through his mind. Intrigued by the statement "Why so?" "You could say she is really into cosplaying; she likes to pretend she is from one of those, what do you call it- uhhh - His phone than rang Just as he was ready to talk the door opens and two customers walked in, the wind blows in flying right through Mr. Jim, his scent entered my nose as I was turning to greet the customers, all of my moves halted, and I found myself sniffing the air around me until they lead back to Jim who was struggling to slide his phone to answer. "Hey, uh Jim where did you ge-" "Hang on one second" he barely spoke with one thick finger in the air while he slowly walked away, I nodded with my brows furrowed eyeing him curiously up and dad to something familiar. That scent? where have I smelled it before, what was it? Mint? no, there is more to it, something stronger, f**k what was that? "Excuse me where are the 'Tiger-lilies' said the one of the women that walked in, lips are redder than red as she smiles at me cheerily. Lillies? snapping out of the thought, "Oh, they are right behind you I say to the women, flashing her pearly whites at me once more before she turns around gracefully; Inky black hair swings around until they land flatly on her backside swaying left and right with every slow strut. Lilies? Mint? where have I smelled that before? an annoyance washed through me at my incapability to remember the scent, why was it so important, I shouldn't be giving myself a hard time about it -- I promised myself no more self-hate, in fact if I can't remember it, than it wasn't even important to begin with--. However, the raging of my beating heart said otherwise. Mr. Jim Irish accent pulls me back to reality, my eyes look him up and down again before breaking a giggle, the way he stood with all his weight supporting his right leg and his hand on his hip while he looks out the window had me questioning my femineity, I mean holy hell. "Yea, I'll see you at home, make sure to wear that underwear again." he chuckles darkly. I swore I almost threw up after hearing that, God, this so what I get for being nosy. "Alright, I love you too, I guess I'll come now and well save it for later, ok bye." he stood there for a few more seconds struggling to end the call, "how do I-?" "The red, Mr. Jim" I giggle. "Alright, Ceann beag" Irish coated voice happily plays through rumbling my windows, I noticed he was leaving empty handed stuffing his phone into his pockets. "Wait, you forgot your flowers." I almost screamed. He paused in the middle of the door "Oh that's right hold them for me, they are surprise flowers, I will have her grandson come pick them up for me." He says nothing else as he walked out. shoot, I forgot to ask him what time, I want to go eat something. After Mr. Jim and those two customers, things got busy, everyone coming in all at once, for a business owner those are moments where you appreciate everything the most. It is almost eight Pm and I still have not seen any sign of his said grandson, to make sure I am correct I look over to the special vase near me half filled with water, flowers are aware of nighttime and thus they slowly begin to close up. Gee, did he forget? or is he not coming? Glancing over at the clock, I didn't close until 10pm and it's still early, I want to move away from the counter, but I feared I might miss someone or the Grandson. Just when I was doing some calculations on how to return quickly my stomach churns painfully with a growl, my oh my when was the last time I have eaten? forget it, I'll just go grab something quickly and come back with it to eat. I really Don't have to do this, but Mr. Jim has shown me his loyalty throughout the Years, even if no one shows up for it today, I will take care if it until he claims it. My phone than pings. Justine: Remember ... hot, sexy and naughty stuff, make me want to jump on a man's bones after reading the story.' Me: Please don't start this up again, you're going to make me wet. Justine: So, there is someone that moistens you up, get over here and tell!! My smile fades and I quickly shut my phone off, s**t, this time I told on myself, so far if I touch up on my story my readers are going to get tragedy and heartbreak, instead of sexy and Romance. It has to be what I am feeling right? than for now its best I stay away from everything until I can come up with some 'Steamy drama.' "Would you like me to send this now?" my soul jumps out of my body from the sudden voice. What the actual f**k. "God-damnit Siri hush and quit scaring me." Was I really talking out loud? Putting up a sign that says will be back in an hour I stuff my coat I walk out to a nearby Resteraunt the menu didn't look appetizing, but this type of hunger doesn't care. The streets are partially empty with the snow blanketing the ground 6 feet and up, the streets of New York are never this quiet, I grew to hate the quiet, and I hate not staying busy, when I don't keep myself busy, I think of 'Him'. Is that a tear? or is my face melting? I'm hit with Deja Vu, just like the first time I stood in front of a restaurant with bodies and shoes bumping into each other, and scuff marks on the floor. Why didn't I just order take out? A strong wind brushed past me almost knocking me over, Alright, alright universe I get it, dumb question I say looking at the mountains of snow behind me, what were they going to do fly? was this place soundproof? my ears were met with oceans of chatter the minute I stepped in, yet outside I didn't even hear a peep. the scenery of this place gave another lounge feel, dark red and brown, colors I have never seen go two and two ever before, but here it is in front of my eyes. Everything was a Mahogany feel to the red polished tiled floor, the warmth it of the place helped in myself thawing out, blew a breath, and headed over to the counter where I sat down in one of the cushioned high stools. picking up the menu felt like holding a smooth board, very neat and woodened, though I was dressed for the occasion thankfully it didn't stop the wandering eyes. Immediately felt eyes on my back, ugh this is what I hate the most when going out, someone has to look at you like the most interesting new object in the world. There are Only one pair of eyes that I wanted to feel again, deep blue with a gentle expression, f**k no, don't cry here, quickly wiping my face. "What's the matter?" I hear next to me. Damnit, attention. "It's, Noth ... Ing" my, oh my what a beauty; Mocha brown skin just like mine, with almost the same hair type, thick lips that gave a soft smile, but her eyes, Honey glazed but they screamed pain, pain and suffering, this beautiful woman, why was she crying? "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry on your business, I am just curious, feel free to tell me to go away anytime." Ahh and she is just like me. Wiping away a last tear, "Its ok, Curiosity is what gets me going too." I laugh "I can't tell you how many times my curiosity nearly got me killed ... Literally" I continued. She glanced at me deeply "Girl I married the wrong man out of curiosity, and he almost killed me, literally." I'm not a social person but around this lady here, I feel like we share the same story, I feel like I know her already, "I have never been a social person, but want to have a meal and talk about it? or a drink? "I would love to sit down with you, but I can't drink though" I see her eyes glow, is it the lighting? it was then I see her round the table, through her long gray dress and her black coat i could see a large bump and saw she was very much pregnant. Oh wow, she is glowing and radiating so much light, I could almost have been deceived hadn't it been for her eyes. "I am sorry by the way I'm originally from Canada and I kind of needed to get away from everything for a little while, my name is Elizabeth." *** "Wait what?" he did that? my blood boils for her, for how much her husband put her through, cheating Sach of s**t, but honestly my family wasn't all that perfect either. I could tell she needed to get some things off her chest. "So, the father is-" I pause. She rubs her belly admiringly before looking up slowly " he is not in the picture" she says in thought I heard her voice crack, oh dear please don't tell me I am making a pregnant women cry. "But anyways, tell me, why were you crying love?" the spotlight back on me and my bleeds, Ms. Elizabeth was more than generous to let me in on her life, I trust her, and besides I have problems of my own that I would like to get off my chest as well. "Well for starters..." I could have sworn that was all I said before it was just us in the Resteraunt, "We will be closing in five minutes ladies, can I go ahead and reheat your meals?" came the soft voice of the waitress in black holding up my bag of food. What the Hell? what time is it? My heart falls to my ass seen as it was 30 minutes to midnight, oh dear the grandson, the shop. Turning my head back to Ms. Elizabeth, "I am so sorry I speak so much." facepalming myself. "Love don't be sorry, its ok, like I said I am here to get away from everything in my life, I am happy that you are sharing so much with me." breathing out a laugh she caught me off guard, "Why don't you ever go see him, I see that you really like him, every time you say his name its nothing but smiles, I used to ... well I am still like that." "I am traumatized by it all, I was almost torn to shreds by a lion." "That he killed for you; you saw the head, right? I don't think that lion will come back for you any time soon ever." "Where would I even go, and how? it's been years, he probably moved on by now and I should do the same." Ms. Elizabeths phone rings then and her face changed when looking at the caller ID, is that fear? "It was amazing to talk to you, love Thank you sharing and for listening," she gets up and heads out, I pray for all things to go well with her, that's the first genuine conversation I have had with anyone that wasn't over the internet. I need to go to, yet my mind is fully spiraling out of control, I really do miss him, and I want to see him again, I would do anything for that to happen again, I want to see his eyes, I want to giggle at his curiosity, I want to feel his body all over me again. "Have a good night I thank the waitress and headed out, my brain full of everything, Him In particular, maybe I should just visit once, just to see how everything is, I'll pretend that I forgot something and returned for it years later. Yea good excuse. I don't even know why I'm headed back to the store; I highly doubt anyone is coming for the flower, but still, it needs tending to. As always, my body thaws out from the cold and I removed my coat, turning the lights on I realized I haven't even counted drawers, cleaned up or fixed the flowers from this mess. Sighing I got right to it, after thirty minutes I heard the door open. "I'm sorry we're closed." I screamed from the back, no response not even a hum. Heading out to the front I'm greeted by someone's head at the other side from the way I had to almost crane my neck, blonde honey locs shimmer beautifully under the light, I roll my eyes of the sudden annoyance, everywhere I look now I just keep getting glimpses of reminders. I should go see him now, just to get the obsession out of the way. The person walks around on the other side of walls, oh well last customer and I am out of here. I wait at my Register typing away at my phone when the figure moves from behind the other side reaching for something. A feeling returned after all this time and I felt my heart nearly burst from my chest, His back side made me drool, no efforts at all when he has to reach upwards the only thing that touched his shoulders was his long hair. A navy-blue suit with a white dress sleeve folded at the ends and collar with khaki pants, the rich Boy outfit aesthetic. I was wrong again, it couldn't be, though the muscles and biceps that nearly bulge out from the shirt had me pooling down below. Moments pass and I found some ideas for my next chapter, typing away I than heard footsteps approaching, very slow and heavy. A flash was then put on my Face and i was immediately met with the brightness of a phone, not even, it was google translate. Please, I am looking for some flowers for my grandmother's boyf- Suddenly than, his hand started going down slowly along with the phone, leaving me to wonder what the rest of the words say. "I'm sorry I wasn't don-" Have you ever had that moment in your life, where everything in the planet lies still? Have you ever wished to wonder what the world sounded like with utter and complete silence and the only noise, is that of your heartbeat? I can say that as of today, I am a witness to the faithful silence and moment to embrace the joy that my heart is singing. "J-Jane" breathy deep voice spoke the very words I always knew, he'd forget. "Ro- Rowan."
