Hope found her Sociology class and a seat not too far in the front and not too far in the back with ease. This class was in an auditorium, which means there were over 300 students in the class. The class smell was somewhat overtaken. From the overwhelming musk of Alpha's scents, to the over sweetness of an Omega's scent, the light whispers of Betas scents to the humans colone and purfums. Hope thought that maybe she should take a scent suppressant when taking this class, so she doesn't have to smell this class.
The suppressant worked differently for Betas. They would just take their smell away for a few hours based on how strong the suppressant is. For Omega's and Alpha's, it would take not only their strong scent during their pre-rut or pre-heat away, but also their smell. Beta's didn't have to worry about that, since their scent was never overwhelming and they didn't get ruts or heats.
"Good morning class." The professor said in the mic as he stood behind the podium. "I trust all of you have already looked over the syllabus and we can start the class. My grading is pretty easy; do the work and get the grade. Now on to class." Hope smiled and thought that she might end up liking this class. "I want everyone to get in their sub-gender and humans in groups. Beta sits in this section in the front. Omega's behind them in the other section. Humans, please sit across from Beta's and Alpha's sitting behind them, across from Omega's." Hope got up and started to smell the bitterness and worried scents coming off everyone in the room. She quickly found a seat in the section in which the professor had asked them to sit.
" OK, now let's start with the Beta's. What makes a Beta?" Hope froze and, by the way, the rest of the section froze with her. She started to worry if this was the start of her experiencing discrimination against her own sub-gender. Her pack family never allowed any discrimination against any of them, so this was different. A girl in the Omega section raised her hand.
"They don't have ruts, heats or overwhelming scents like Omega's and Alpha's. Although they aren't like humans because they have a wolf's voice and could change if need be."
"Right!" The professor said. "Why do they have a wolf?" This time the professor pointed to a male human.
"They are a decent of wolf's," The male said.
"Correct! Now why are there male and female Beta's but not male and female Omega's and Alpha's?" Nobody raised their hands. "Ahhhh... I see that we have some work on our hands." The professor said. "In this class we are going to learn the social ins and outs of each sub-gender that is present here with us today. Which brings us to our next topic. I want you to write an essay on everything you know about Alpha's, Omega's, Beta's and Humans. Now I take it that since you are in college, that I will get papers with more than five paragraphs and hopefully more than three pages. If that is all you know about sub-genders, then well go back to your parents and have "the talk" with them again." The professor said and the class laughed. Hope was thankful for being off tomorrow because she would be in a bind if she didn't have all day to write this paper. She would be lucky if it didn't end up being more than ten pages long. Her pack tried to make sure they knew everything to make the family pack work and to prepare it for their own pack.
The professor talked a few more minutes and then released everyone. Hope jumped up and was out of the door in no time. She was excited about meeting her new Omega friend Victoria, and getting to know her better. She thought of all kinds of questions to ask her and surely there wasn't going to be any award silence. When she arrived at the building, Victoria was sitting on the bench reading from one of her binders. Hope noticed how her redish-brown hair fell over her face and how the wind was blowing it ever so slightly. Unlike Hope, Victoria had curves in her hips but her breast was smaller, giving her a slight pear shape. Hope noticed at breakfast that her light brown eyes were the perfect shade to match her tan complexation. Just passing her in the hall, you wouldn't think of giving her a second look because she was just a normal looking girl, but Hope standing there looking at her made her heart skip a beat or two. Hope grabbed at her chest. "Calm down Hope, let's just see if we can be friends first before getting our hopes up for a pack member." She said out loud.
Hope walked towards Victoria and just right before she got to her, Victoria lifted her head and smiled a boxy grin. Hope's heart did that jumping thing again. Hope smiled back, she was so consumed in watching Victoria that she wasn't looking at where she was going. Hope tripped on the curve on the sidewalk into Alpha's arms, who just so happened to be walking by with his friends.
"I normally have dinner with you, before I hold you in these arms." The Alpha said "But you're a cute Beta, so I'll let it pass this time. The next time you will have to buy me dinner." He smirked. Hope quickly jumped out of his arms and glared at the other two Alphas who were with him.
"Sorry, I was so focused on getting to my friend that I wasn't paying attention to where I was stepping." Hope said so apologically. They all looked towards where Hope was pointing. Victoria gave an awkward smile and waved. They waved back and turned to Hope.
"I see, well, it's only fitting that the two most beautiful wolves are friends." One of the other Alphas said.
"Do you practice your pick-up lines in the mirror before breakfast every day or are you just a fly by your seat of your pants, kind of Alpha?" Victoria said, coming up behind them looking annoyed, as Hope felt.
"Wake up with me in the morning and find out." The Alpha said. The other two Alpha's laughed
"In your dreams, wolf boy," Victoria said as she gathered Hope and started walking to the cafeteria. The other Alpha's died laughing. Hope tried to suppress her giggles.
"Alphas!" Victoria said. "They are all the same, they only have breeding on their minds." She huffed.
"I'm sure that's not all they think about." Hope said, trying to stand up for Alpha in general. Victoria glared at her.
"Did your family pack raise you as all are equal?" Victoria asked.
"Yes, but what does that have to do with breeding?" Hope asked.
"It has to do with the fact that wolves and people aren't as loving as your pack family." Victoria said in a loving, protective voice. Her scent was even giving off traces of protective smells.
"Victoria," Hope smiled and put her hand on Victoria's shoulder."I promise I don't live in a delusional land. I know how many feel about wolves and humans. I can assure you that I am well aware a decent amount of wolves looking at me as useless," she said.
"It just makes me mad that people treat one differently based on their sub-genders," Victoria said.
"I know, but I also know that someday I will find a pack like mine. They will love me and my Beta ways. They will look at me as their equals, and I will give them kisses and hugs, and all the babies they want. Well, at least one for every Alpha and Beta in the pack." Hope laughed as she pushed Victoria though the door to the cafeteria.
"Oh, so that's how it is going to be? What about the Omega in your pack? Or do you not want a pack with Omega?" Victoria asked in a nervous laugh.
"Of course silly, I want Omega in my pack!! I mean, I heard ruts are a beast and well... I just don't want to be the only one having fun." Hope laughed as she grabbed Victoria's arm and led her to the line for food. "Now come on and let's eat. I am starving. That muffin did nothing for me." Victoria laughed and said.
"Yeah, that's the word on the street." She laughed and then whispered. " Hopefully, I won't ever experience one alone. Real talk, they scare me." Hope laughed.
"Real talk.. they scare me too!" Hope whispered back. They both giggled and started putting food on their tray for their lunches. They sat at a table that seemed to be set apart from everyone else and talked until Hope had to go to class. Hope waved goodbye and Victoria told her she was working tonight, but they would meet after her classes tomorrow for lunch if Hope wanted. Hope agreed quickly and gave Victoria a hug and left. Tomorrow seemed like a world away but she would do her best to make sure that all her assignments were completed so she could enjoy lunch with Victoria.
