Chapter 2

Anastasia and the kids got home, and the rest of their weekend was pretty much normal.

Soon, Monday rolled by, and Anastasia resumed work, leaving the kids at home with their nanny.

Anastasia worked at Carter technologies, which was the top producing hardware company in the country.

She worked at the financial department in the company and was the head of a cell in the department, which was a pretty high position for her age and her years of experience, and she was earning a pretty high salary.

“Good morning Sia.” Cynthia, a very good friend of Anastasia at work greeted, her nickname at the office is Sia.

“Good morning Cynthia, how was your weekend?”

“Pretty good, yours was great as well? I hope the twins didn’t give much trouble.”

“They did, as usual,” Anastasia chuckled. “. Is Mrs Monet in yet?”

Mrs Monet is the director of the financial department, as a cell leader, she was to report to the director every morning when she arrives.

“Yes, but she’s not on seat. She stepped out a few minutes ago.”

“Oh alright, thank you.” Anastasia smiled and walked into the office.

Three hours passed by uneventfully, until a few minutes ago when she was summoned into the CEO’s office.

On her way to the office, she pondered the reasons why she could have been summoned, she was sure she wasn’t going to be fired, the CEO had no business with that.

She eventually couldn’t think of a reason, and now, she’s currently standing in front of the CEO’s office, about to knock, still confused why she was suddenly summoned by the CEO.

With great courage, she finally knocked on the door, and heard a quiet ‘come in’.

She opened the door and stepped into the office, and saw the CEO working, as usual, the only unusual thing was that there was a little boy sitting quietly on a sofa nearby. She quickly recognized the boy; he was the little boy her daughters made friends with the previous Saturday.

“Good morning, sir.” Anastasia greeted.

“Good morning, Miss. Dupont. I trust you had a lovely morning.”

“Yes sir I did, thank you very much.”

“I’m afraid I’m going to have to bother you a little bit. My grandson here insisted on seeing your daughters and wouldn’t let me work in peace. So, I ask, is it possible to take him to meet them?” Anastasia was taken back; she couldn’t believe her daughter made friends with the grandson of the CEO of the company she works with. The world really is a small place.

Although she was delighted, she was worried. She didn’t want the responsibility of watching the CEO’s grandson, because if anything went wrong, all hell would break loose.

“It is possible, and I’m delighted sir, but I couldn’t help but worry about one thing, security…” The CEO interrupted her.

“No need to worry about that, he’ll be safe. His father will pick him up at the end of the day.”

“You may leave. Take Alexander with you.” The CEO said and returned to his work.

“Yes sir, thank you sir.” Anastasia gestured to Alex to come over. “Come on darling” Alex stood up from the chair and ran to Anastasia, and they left the office together.

They got to her house about thirty minutes after. The twins were surprised to hear their mother’s call pull over at the driveway. They ran outside, despite their nanny’s protest.

“Mummy!” They yelled as they ran to hug their mother. They were right, it was their mother.

Anastasia hugged her kids, and as they broke free, she bent to their level.

“I have a surprise for you too.” She cooed as she booped their cute nose.

Right on cue, Alex got down from the car.

As soon as the twins saw him, they yelled his name and ran to hug him, falling him down in the process, but he was alright.

The boy who didn’t smile or and didn’t speak at all during their journey here was having a full-blown conversation with her kids.

Anastasia spoke with the nanny for a while about the whole situation and who Alex was before leaving again, she had work to attend to at the company.

The rest of the day was normal, she got home, and the kids were asleep on the sofa, well, only Alex was asleep on the sofa, the twins were asleep on him.

Anastasia relieved the nanny and got started on the dinner, she decided to cook extra for Alex, because she wasn’t sure when his father was supposed to pick him up.

While cooking the dinner, and humming her favourite tune, she heard a little pitter of a footstep, she turned around and saw Alex rubbing one eye, he had woken up.

She bent to his level. “What is it darling?” She asked.

“Nothing.” He answered. Anastasia nodded and continued cooking, Alex watched her closely, which was a bit uncomfortable for her, but she let him be, and over time she forgot he was there.

Finally, dinner was ready, by that time, the twins were awake, and they were also watching her serve the food.

Anastasia knew her daughters were hungry and wanted food, so she served everyone their dinner, they said their words of prayer and started eating.

After dinner, she gave the twins their bath, which was just downright torture because they love splashing water everywhere, she was soaked by the time they were done.

Alex could have his bath by himself, so she let him have his bath, and put his old clothes in the laundry machine.

Luckily, he brought an extra pair of clothes, so that one wasn’t really a problem.

After sorting out the kids, Anastasia had her bath, and she went to put the kids to sleep as it was their bedtime.

Soon, it was 9 pm, and Alex’s father had still not shown. Alex was asleep on an extra bed she brought into the twin’s room from another room because Alex didn’t want to sleep alone.

By 9:45 pm, Anastasia was basically asleep on the couch. She was exhausted and was struggling to stay awake.

Few minutes passed, and a knock on her door nearly threw Anastasia off the couch. She stood up and dragged herself to the door and looked through the hole, it was a man, she recognized him, he was the CEO’s son.

“Finally!” Anastasia rejoiced and opened the door.
