“I had a rather disturbing conversation with your son a month ago…” Anastasia didn’t even get to finish her sentence before she was rather rudely interrupted by Travis.
“He thinks I don’t have a heart. I know that.” Anastasia stared at him, surprised.
“And you are okay with that?”
“I don’t care, as long as he learns, whatever he thinks of me doesn’t matter.”
She had waited for a month, thinking of how she was going to present her concerns to Travis, but he seemed he knew of it.
What are more disturbing to her was the fact that he didn’t care.
“Mr. Carter! That’s your child! Are you telling me you don’t care your child hates you?!” Anastasia yelled. She knew she was a bit over her boundary with Travis, but she had already formed a bond with Alexander, and she knew how his issue with his father was affecting him.
Anastasia had kids too, and although they were really troublesome, and most of the time she wondered where they got their energy from, she couldn’t bear the thought of her children hating her, and at such a tender age.
“Miss. Dupont, I don’t need to remind you to stay in your place,” Travis warned. Anastasia’s rage went through the roof, but she tried to keep herself calm.
He was threatening her, and she knew it was definitely with her job. Although he wasn’t the CEO of the company she worked for, he was in a high position in the management of the company and was to take over as the new CEO soon.
If he wanted her gone from the company, it wasn’t hard. That was a low card he was pulling, and they both knew it
“I think it is better you remind yourself, Mr Carter. You are his father. Know your place in his life. I think you should leave.” Anastasia said and held the door open, suggesting for Travis to walk out.
Not wanting to stay any longer, Travis stood up and left, not without glancing at Anastasia, who was fuming and refused to look at him.
The rest of the week was uneventful, just a boring cycle of going to work, returning, taking care of the kids, waiting for Alexander to be picked by his driver because Travis stopped coming after the day she got mad at him, and she was glad because she was still mad at him.
The weekend rolled by, and John came over to pick the kids. Jane and Judith talked all week about the adventure their father promised them.
Each time they talked about it, Anastasia smiled, she was glad her kids were getting to spend time with their father. She felt like she owed it to them as she prevented their father from being in their lives for the first three years.
“Come with us, I am sure the kids will want their mother to join them.” John pleaded to try to convince Anastasia to come with them. He was in a really good mood, and he saw the twins were sad when he told them their mother would not be going with them.
“Well their mother would have been happy to join, but she is really busy, and she doesn’t want her babies to miss their fun because of her,” Anastasia replied and booped Judith’s nose. Judith chuckled in response.
“Do me! Do me!” Jane yelled. Anastasia laughed and booped Jane’s nose.
“Come on, go into the car, let me get your bags,” Anastasia yelled as she went into the twins’ room to get their bags. The twins ran into John’s car.
As Anastasia made her way downstairs, she saw John at the end of the stairs, smiling at her.
“What?” She asked, she was a bit uncomfortable, he was her ex-husband after all.
“Just come along with us, it will be fun,” John said, trying to persuade her.
This time, Anastasia frowned. She had been smiling earlier because her kids were around, and she didn’t want to get them upset, but John was beginning to get on her nerves trying to persuade her.
“John, you are married, and not to me, don’t forget about that. We are not one happy family, we are co-parents, trying to parent our children, not a family okay? You take the kids to places, and I will take them to places. We will spend time with our children, but apart, apart!” Anastasia yelled the last word and gave the twins’ bag to John.
John didn’t say anything, but it was obvious he was upset.
He simply walked into his car, placed the twins’ bag in the trunk of the car, entered the driver seat of the car, fired up the engine of the car and drove off.
Anastasia sighed after John and the kids left. She was really tempted to join them, and almost lost her rationality to go with her heart, but she knew what she did was the best.
Their family had died years ago, no need to hurt each herself with wishful thinking.
Over at Travis’ house, Travis and Alexander were having their dinner that their housekeeper had prepared for them.
More of Travis having his dinner, Alexander was playing with his food.
“Eat your food.” Alexander frowned at his father and then continued to play with his food.
“Alexa…”
“I’m not hungry.” Alexander stood up from the chair and ran to his room, only that he didn’t get to his room before his father’s voice rang.
“Alexander! Get back here and finish your food or you do not get to see the twins for a month.”
Not seeing the twins meant he would be stuck in the house with no one his age for a month, and he loved playing with the twins, he didn’t want to not see them for a month! With that, Alexander dragged his feet back to the dining table, not without glaring at his father first.
Travis ignored his son’s glare and nodded, contented seeing his son being obedient.
With that, dinner dragged for another thirty minutes, Travis finished his food, but Alexander didn’t.
Travis frowned seeing his son’s unfinished food on the plate.
“I don’t think it should take you this long to finish dinner. That is it, no seeing the twins for a month.” Alexander looked at his father in disbelief, tears swelling in his eyes.
“I hate you!” Alexander cried before running into his room.
The housekeeper ran out to the dining room when she heard Alexander’s cries. She got to the dining room and saw Travis staring at the table lost in thoughts.
The housekeeper sighed. Alexander declared he hated his father; it was becoming increasingly difficult to work for them.
Travis however was in disbelief, he knew his son thought he was heartless, and when Anastasia told him his son hated him, he thought she was basically exaggerating, but hearing his son say that statement hit him differently. Travis sighed and looked at the housekeeper.
“Please clean this place up. Thank you for the dinner.” The housekeeper responded with a ‘yes sir’.
Travis was about to leave, but the housekeeper’s voice stopped him.
“Perhaps you should be gentle with him, he is just five years old.” Travis smiled lightly and left the room, giving no response to the housekeeper, but he thought about her words.
