“Finally!” Anastasia exclaimed. Alex’s father had finally come to pick up his son. She could sleep in peace.
“Good evening. I apologize for coming this late. I’m Travis. I’m here to pick up my son.”
“Right. Alex is asleep. I will go bring him down.” Anastasia said and rushed to the girls’ room.
As she entered the room, she smiled in awe at the sight she saw. From little, the girls could never sleep on the same bed, they always fought.
Now, the girls were on Alex’s bed, and they were cuddling, asleep on the same bed. Anastasia was overjoyed, but she had to snap out of it, the father of the kid was waiting for him downstairs.
In a minute, she carefully detangled the kids from each other, and carried Alex, as gentle as she could, so he wouldn’t wake up.
As she came out of the room, Alex felt like he was being moved, and woke up.. He lifted his head from the crook of Anastasia’s shoulder, and looked around, trying to figure out where he was.
It took a second, but then he realized he was being carried to meet his father.
“I don’t want to go home.” Alex wailed and held on to her.
“But you have to go home. He’s your daddy, and he loves you very much. He will be heartbroken if he hears you don’t want to go home. You have to go home, okay?” She spoke softly, trying to convince Alex to let her go, so she could hand him over to his father.
Alex wasn’t having any of it.
“My daddy doesn’t have a heart.” Anastasia looked at Alex in shock. How could a five-year-old say that about his father? Anastasia sighed; she didn’t know what she was going to do. Then she had an idea, to coax him.
“Okay, let’s do it like this, if you go home with your daddy, I will let you see the twins whenever you want.”
“But I could already do that before.” Alex rolled his eyes.
“Okay, I will let them call you whenever they want to, does that sound good?”
“Deal!” Alex struck out his hand for a handshake, and she shook him.
Then, he went down the stairs and ran straight to the car. Travis was about to leave out the door, but Anastasia stopped him.
“Mr. Carter?”
She wanted to talk to him about the little conversation she had with Alex, but she decided not to, because she didn’t know them well enough to do that.
She let him go and closed the door behind him and locked it. It was time for bed.
She then headed to her room and slept.
The next day was the same as the previous day, and by the third day, Anastasia accepted that she had basically become Alex’s babysitter. She was happy to have him visit her daughters if it meant they wrecked less havoc and fought less, she appreciated it.
Saturday came by soon, and it was time for the twins to meet their father. The twins were excited about it, and although she dreaded meeting John again, she knew the twins deserved to have their father in their lives.
She arranged for John to pick the twins up by 11am, and it was 10:55am, so she was pretty much expecting him to show up.
There was a knock on the door.
“Speak of the devil.” Anastasia muttered and went to open the door. Lo and behold, it was John, his new wife, the woman he cheated on her with, and the outcome of their affair, their child, Toby.
Anastasia scanned the woman, and the woman did the same. ‘The nerve of this guy to bring her here.’ Anastasia thought, mad.
“Are you mocking me right now?” She asked, her anger continuing to rise.
“What do you mean?” John asked, not knowing what he did wrong.
“Why is she here?”
“Excuse me! I’m his wife!” Bridgit, John’s wife yelled, Anastasia rolled her eyes before giving a verbal response.
“Well congratulations on breaking a marriage. I can see you are very proud of your trophy.” Bridgit gasped, very offended.
“Ladies please!” John yelled trying to stop a full-blown argument from happening.
“Anastasia, I’m here to pick up the twins. Please can we not have this happen here?”
“I’m sorry John, it will happen, you cheated on me throughout our marriage.” John sighed, he totally regretted doing that to Anastasia, she was his first love after all.
“I know, and I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing to her? She deserved it.” Bridgit said. Anastasia rolled her eyes.
“Bridgit please.”
“Fine, whatever. John you enter, Bridgit, stay outside.” Anastasia said and entered; John followed behind her.
“Who are you to…” Anastasia slammed the door in her face and walked upstairs to get the twins.
Soon, she got downstairs with the twins, and surprisingly, the twins recognized their father, and ran to hug him.
Jane broke out of her father’s hug and saw Bridgit who had already been let in by John, holding her two years old child, not looking happy at all.
“Daddy, who is that angry woman holding a baby?” Jane asked out loud. Bridgit frowned deeply.
“Jane! That wasn’t nice. Apologize to her!” Anastasia reprimanded. She didn’t like Brigit, but she didn’t want her daughter to describe a woman as ‘angry’.
“Sorry.” Jane muttered.
“Hello! I am Judith, that baby is cute!” Judith reached her hand out to Bridgit.
Anastasia and John smiled at their daughter, as Bridgit handed to her, Tobi.
“Okay girls, meet your baby brother, Tobi.” The twins were no longer paying attention to him, they were playing with Tobi, who seemed to enjoy their company.
The twins playing with their child brought a little bit of smile to Bridgit’s face.
Seeing Bridgit’s smile lifted John’s mood, it seemed all his kids could get along, as he hoped for.
The twins played a with Toby a little bit, before they headed out with their father for the weekend.
Anastasia’s arrangement with John was that he would have them for the weekend, and she will have them for the week, she could finally take a break from the twins, and she was glad to.
