Richard’s POV
As Payton ran off down the hallway, my knees nearly gave out. What the hell just happened? My heart slammed against my ribs as I lunged forward to chase after her, but Elizabeth’s grip on my arm tightened like a vice, yanking me back.
“What are you doing?” I snapped, trying to pull free. “Let me go!”
“No, Richard,” she said calmly, her voice too steady for the chaos swirling around us. “Don’t you see? Everything is finally falling into place for us.”
I stared at her, disbelief twisting my features. “Elizabeth, what the hell are you talking about?”
She stepped closer, her hand gently resting on her stomach. “What I’m saying is… we could be a real family now. I’m carrying your child, Richard. And I promise you, I will love you more than Payton ever could. Deeper. Better. W
