His strong legs started to move quickly beneath him as he made his way back to the celebration.
Kallie heard her family and friends exclaim loudly when they first saw her in his arms.
“What happened?”, her mother seemed to shout.
“She said she started to feel unwell and I was able to catch her when she fell. Possibly too much stress from her birthday party? May I carry her to her room and then make my departure? I’m late for a meeting.” The strange man replied to Kallie’s mother.
“Yes, yes of course! Thank you so much!”
The stranger carried me into the house while I listened to my mother explain in the best words that she could that a sudden sickness came over me and my party was delayed for another time. "Yeah, because anyone would believe that with the state I was in. They probably thought I was on a conquest to kill my sadness with some sort of perscription medication.", Kallie thought to herself.
The last thing Kallie remembered before more excruciating pain hit her body was the strange man lying her down and staring at her on the bed. Not another word and he bounded straight out the door and was gone to her.
-------
“Kallie…. Are you awake?” Sara gently pleaded through the door.
She had checked on Kallie once after the gorgeous man had left but hasn't made it back upstairs for hours. This gave Kallie enough time to go through a life altering event that would change her life forever.
Kallie shied away from the door, scared of what might happen if her mother should open it.
She was lying on the ground next to her bed. Two small paws were underneath her head when she glanced at the ground. The yellow of her fur shone golden with the moon bouncing off of her. She wanted to cry. Kallie was overwhelmed and felt she was having either the craziest dream or the most wild mental breakdown that she's ever seen. Kallie rose to all fours and tried to swing her head around to see the rest of her body. A long, bushy tail swished at her rear end and she whipped her head back around.
No! This CANNOT be happening she told herself.
Kallie started to pace back and forth in her room. Her soft pads caused virtually no noise and her claws dug into her plush carpet.
Kallie's mind spun even more intricate webs in her mind. “How could this be?!” she thought to herself.
As Kallie was contemplating more of life’s mysteries, a knock at the door again snapped her back to reality. “Oh no, she cant see me like this”, Kallie’s mind screamed.
The door started to creak and Kallie couldn't find a spot to hide well enough.
Kallie decided the bed would have to do. She hopped as fast as she could onto the bed and laid down. She used her new sharp teeth to hook the blanket and drop it quickly over her whole body.
Small, light footsteps approached the bed and Kallie’s new shape held her breath. Sara lifted the blanket slowly to check on her daughter, only her daughter, was no longer present.
Golden eyes of a wolf stared up at Sara, Kallie’s mother, and watched as the woman’s mouth gaped with fear.
Kallie watched as her mother shoved the blanket back over her head and ran screaming back to the bedroom door, slamming it shut behind her.
Kallie sat up on her hindquarters. She knew nothing would be the same. In fact, she was pretty sure someone new would be coming soon. That new person would either be animal control to collect her for science experiments or an orderly from a psych institution where they would lock up her mother for the insane story that would leave her lips.
Kallie waited and waited. She gazed around her room and couldn't believe the detail she was seeing with her new eyes. Wait a minute, the purse she had loaned a friend had a small tear in it. She knew she didn't loan it like that out which means her friend Nicole wasn’t as trustworthy as she thought. The smells in her room bothered her as well. The perfume she once loved was now overpowering her nose and burning. Those will have to go, Kallie thought to herself.
Her nose continued to itch but she ignored it. Kallie’s ears were as sharp as ever now but she couldn't hear where her mother was in the house. Let alone what she was saying. Maybe she had left? Kallie couldn’t open a door in her current state so she wasn't able to go out and look for her mother like she would have liked to.
No one came all night and it confused her further. Her mother had left the house, Kallie believed. Now Kallie began to worry. Hopefully this wasn't a permanent state her body was in. She still had friends to gossip with, boys to meet! What trivial things to worry about now. Kallie began to feel drowsiness though her body began to ache again. Her eyes slipped closed and her dreams melted away to a dark wolf watching her from the shadows with ice blue eyes and a lifted nose.
