Memories

There was a loud whack as the vehicle collided with his now perished body. Alec’s death was instant.  The boy driving was mortified. He had looked down at his cellphone after quickly turning the corner onto the road where Alec had been crossing. Speeding was one of the things he never thought twice about. Always figuring that he would be watching and that he was too smart to hurt anyone.  The story behind Alec’s slaying was as follows.  Jeffery was rushing to reach the store before closing time, which he had thought was in a matter of minutes and not an hour like he later found out. The reasoning he looked down was to glance at a text from his girlfriend, who was waiting at his parents house while he rushed to get her the drink and candies she requested.  Jeffery’s parents weren’t home when the police went to inform them of the incident that caused Kallie’s father’s death. But his girlfriend was and she broke down in tears, taking the blame for “making him” leave the house to get what she wanted.  Kallie blew out a breath of air, still staring at her father’s smiling picture.  It's a sad day when you bury your father knowing he will never walk you down the aisle at your wedding or hold your newborn baby.  With tears swelling in her eyes, Kallie shook her head and counted. Something she did quite regularly to calm her nerves.  Sara, Kallie's mother, taught her this when she was probably 8 or 9 years old. Kallie had just fallen off her bike due to some stunt she tried to pull with a ramp and a bunch of boys watching and laughing.  With the hollering still in her ears she ran to her mother and explained what happened.  The boys had told her she wouldn't be able to do the trick and when she tried she only found that they were right. It broke her heart and the reaction of the boys was cruel. Not one had cared that she gouged deep gashes into her knees when she took her hit and that she was currently bleeding profusely.  Her mother taught her to control her emotions. Settle herself and count till you're ready for the next challenge that life would give you.  Kallie counted to 15 and tied a few scraps of clothes to her knees. She stomped, as best she could, out to the ramp where her bike was still laying. She examined her bike for a few moments, noting that there were a few new scratches and dents.  Climbing on she stared down all of the boys that were surrounding the ramp. She waited her turn and with her second try she nailed what she had promised the boys that she could do.  With tears in her eyes for fulfilling her accomplishment she walked up the drive with her bike and asked her mother and father to properly bandage her up.  Of course with how deep the cuts were she ended up getting a few stitches at the local emergency room.
