Episode 11-Bound By Duty

1170 Words
To Alan's surprise, everything was quiet throughout school that day. He had expected trouble from Sloana during her visit to the school, but things were cool. Sophia was still effectively ignoring him, and he wondered why. Her friend was still staring at him with lust in her eyes, like one would a male escort, but she didn't have the courage to approach him which was probably a smart choice. It was while they were driving home that Julian felt the need to inform him, as he took charge of the steering wheel. Eddie, on the other hand, looked lost. The boy hated school, and even his wolf was aware. "Sloana came to cause trouble at the principal's office, but thankfully, he didn't give in to her," Julian explained. "What?" Alan asked. "She apparently wanted you to be transferred by force to Ivy League, but the principal refused. She was quite angry with him. But she left. However, she promised to make his life a living hell should anything happen to you here." "No doubt she will be the one to plan something, that witch," Eddie murmured, drifting in and out of sleep. "Hey, you're talking about your Luna, show some respect" Julian teased Alan, who was deeply worried. "Funny," he said gently, looking out the window. "You don't have to worry, Alan. We are right beside you. If Uncle Maska wants to force you to marry her, don't worry. We'll just marry you instead. What do you say, Eddie? We'll be beside him forever," Julian teased. Alan felt like gagging. "You two had better not mention that in front of him. I love women, okay? Don't you even dare? Otherwise, he will bury us all." "Wow, you're not even denying the fact that you love us," Eddie murmured, coming fully awake. A mischievous grin spread across his face. Alan sent them a ludicrous look. Julian started the car, and they pulled out of the parking lot with several students watching them. "When will they stop doing that? Have they forgotten that we're just students like them?" Alan murmured. "A student who is capable of effecting changes in their lives in just a few days of his arrival in town. The people love you, Alan. And that's because you're a good Alpha," Julian replied. As they were driving out, Alan spotted Sophia's friend. She was walking with Josh towards his car, but Sophia was nowhere in sight. Alan smiled. Her schedule was no doubt busy with the hectic list of food he wanted prepared. She had probably gone grocery shopping. He had sent her a long list during class, and getting her information was very easy. She was so naive that she had put her phone number on her social media page. The way she ignored him during class had irked him to no end, so he had sent her the long list. He rolled down the car's side window and waved at Josh, laughing at the evident anger on his face. It must have been something serious for Josh to speak with Sophia. It was unusual since Josh preferred classy girls, and Sophia was not one of them. Alan was convinced that Josh wanted to sleep with Sophia and then dump her. He knew how guys like Josh thought and would do everything in his power to frustrate him. He would ensure that Sophia was never within Josh's reach. This reminded Alan of Julian. "You seem extra cheerful today, Julian. You didn't say a word in the morning, but now you're extra chatty. What's the story?" Alan asked. "Nothing," Julian answered gruffly. "It's because of Becky. He's had a crush on her for a very long time now," Eddie promptly replied. "Becky? Who's that?" Alan asked. "The slutty lady who's been staring at you all day. The one sitting behind Sophia, the quiet, shy, cute little button with the curvy body," Eddie described. Alan tried to recall Sophia. "You know Sophia? How come you all know her, and I don't remember her?" "You were chasing after many things in junior high, Alpha, and Sophia was not one of them," Julian commented. "Oh," Alan replied, short of words. "I was quite wild, was I not?" he said to nobody in particular. He had a pack to rule, Uncle Jocka to audit, and he was setting so many policies in place that he had to oversee personally. Uncle Maska was pressuring him to marry Sloana, a woman he loathed more than anyone in the world. His life troubles had tripled since his teen years. Alan noticed that Julian neither confirmed nor denied Becky's role in his happiness. "So, is it Becky?" Alan asked. "No," Julian replied, and said no more. "He's just being shy. I saw him receive a letter from her once," Eddie replied for Julian. "Really? When was that?" Alan asked. "It was a letter for you, Alan. You told me to discard it," Julian said smoothly. "I did? I have no recollection of that. I must have forgotten a lot of things. I didn't even remember Sophia," Alan said. "That was because she was never on your radar. You two were worlds apart. You're probably noticing her now because you've changed so much, and Sophia is a woman now — a very warm and curvy woman that any werewolf would love to have a taste of," Eddie said dreamily. "Then she's off-limits to them all. I wouldn't mind offering her protection if I have to," Alan responded matter-of-factly. Julian glanced at him before concentrating on the road. "That's strange. Why would you offer her protection? You don't even know her. Or is this part of your Zang City reforms?" "Sophia is my maid. So why can't I offer protection to my maid?" "What? Sophia Andrews. How did you meet her?" It finally dawned on Julian. "She was the one who came in this morning to clean?" "Yes," Alan answered. Julian kept quiet after that and said nothing. "Didn't you just arrive? And judging by your reputation, why would she agree to work for you?" Eddie asked, interested. Werewolves always found the subject of human females a massive entertainment, anyway. "Please give me a break, Eddie. Julian, please drive me to the plantation. I have to check some things with the management there. Thank you." "What? Ain’t we going home? I'm hungry," Eddie whined from where he lay in the back seat. Alan smirked. "Aren't you the one who said you wanted to marry me just now? For better or worse, my dear, in plenty and in hunger." Alan laughed mockingly as Julian changed course and drove toward the direction of Zang Pack plantations. They were there, overseeing and inspecting the plantation until very late at night. Alan was so engrossed in the work that he forgot that he had commanded Sophia to stay back to serve and clean after him before she left. So he left her waiting in the house while he got himself busy with Alpha duties.
