Episode 10 - Zang High 2

Josh looked up and saw him. The students around him were not calm; they were in an uproar at the sight of him in the school. It had been so long; it was like a homecoming, and Josh was coming to ruin it. There was nothing Alan would love more than to crush Josh's plan. Josh left Sophia and walked up to Alan. "If it isn't the Alpha of the jungle? What brings you back to Zang City? Are you here to finish what your forefathers started?" he taunted, sizing up Alan and his friends. Julian folded his arms, making Josh become defensive. He brought up his hand to defend himself, but Alan just laughed. "So, are you going to teach me a lesson then?" Alan asked. "If I can, why not? It's time you werewolves became extinct for good in this town. Go back to the jungle where you belong," Josh replied. Alan did not take kindly to that threat. "That's not exactly how I remember it. Humans are the ones scared of us, aren't they? Werewolves rule Zang City; never forget that," Alan warned meaning every word. Josh ran over to him and tried to attack him, but Eddie was fast and stepped between them. "That's enough now, little Mr Gangster rat. Go on your way; class is starting soon," Eddie shut him up like one would a pesky fly. Josh suddenly pushed him and dragged him by his shirt. "Be careful, Josh; this is designers, I don't think you can afford it," Eddie taunted him, which only further infuriated Josh. Alan laughed. That was when he caught Sophia's eyes. He stopped laughing and held her gaze, but she looked away and hurried out of the hallway, dragging a girl behind her. The influx of teachers into the hallway made everyone keep quiet for a minute. "Are you all kidding me? Has Alan Zang returned for you all to pile your way into the doorway?" one of the teachers shouted. He was a human but was quite formidable. A statistics teacher, Mr Drew, a ruddy man who probably never thought twice to wash his hair every week. It stuck and reeked. His friendly behaviour was the only reason why students were endeared to him, as he was probably the only one who was nice to them. "Yes," came the loud chorus from all the students around as they cheered. Eddie pushed Josh out of his way and went to the teacher, shaking him profusely. "What a nice homecoming." "Alan Zang is truly here," Mr Drew laughed as he went to hug Alan, pushing Eddie out of the way. Eddie ran several steps to the side, unstable on his feet before stopping. Alan was escorted to the principal's office, where they all seemed to be waiting for him. The principal was a human as well, a principled man and a strict disciplinarian. Life in Zang City must have been tough for him, knowing he would not conform to any ruling from the pack that was unlawful. Principal Mashed. "Welcome, Alpha Alan," he greeted with a full smile. He looked relieved, in fact. "Is this how you greet all your students? I'm quite uncomfortable with the formalities," Alan said as he took his seat, his friends on either side of him. "It's a formality that must be respected, Alan. You're the Alpha of the pack, and I'm grateful for the increase in the school budget. Things have been really bad around here due to the lack of funds. We're a public school, and the fee is regulated by the state, yet they don't release funds... Oh, I shouldn't be saying this," Principal Mashed paused. Alan laughed. "You can say it. I think my uncle has been very strict with you." "No, he hasn't. His subordinate, Jocka, is the one in charge of the Pack's treasury, and he's not exactly a fan of mine. He stopped the yearly budget that the Pack gives to the school, saying the government ought to provide that, but they've long neglected us. Those politicians just make promises, and we're just barely hanging on," Principal Mashed said gently. Alan hadn't known Uncle Jocka was in charge of the Pack's treasury. Things were becoming clearer. Principal Mashed smiled awkwardly. "I shouldn't keep you waiting. Like you said, you're a student of the school. You should be in class. You've missed quite a few classes already." "Oh, yes," Eddie muttered. Julian stood up, followed by Alan. It was then that Alan noticed Julian still hadn't said a word since they entered the school. He was quiet, eerily quiet. It wasn't unusual for Julian to be quiet, but he hadn't said a single word. He seemed to be searching for something instead. Alan knew his friend more than anything. He was more eager to get to class than the rest of them. But why? They all left with Mr Drew, who helped them to the class. It was still an uproar with each step he took. "You'll have to help me get them quiet," Mr Drew whispered. "What a great thing for a teacher to say to a student," Alan mocked as Mr Drew led them to the class. Immediately they entered the class, everything went silent, and Sophia's fresh scent hit his nose. That human. She was everywhere around him. "I'm sure you all know who they are, no need for introductions," the teacher said. Most of the girls in the class were already staring at Alan and his friends with admiration, while the boys were cheering and vying for his attention. They were all his friends when he had been in school, and they wanted to reconnect with him. Alan scanned the room, noticing that Sophia was avoiding eye contact and chewing her hands nervously, while her friend behind her stared lustfully at him. Interesting, he thought to himself, he would love to introduce her to Sloana; some hair-pulling might set her straight. "Come on, settle down, pick a seat," Mr Drew said, trying to get the class to focus. Julian was the first to move, and a few students wanted to make space for him, but he refused and sat down next to Sophia. Alan and Eddie were surprised by his actions. Alan smiled and went to pick an empty seat by the class window when he noticed a very fine sports car driving into the premises. Sloana, the royal Luna, alighted from the car alone. She had no friends since no one could bear her two-faced nature and her distrust of friends; she was afraid they might snatch Alan away from her as if he were a fruit that could be plucked from a tree anytime. Another teacher entered the class, and Mr Drew left. "The class begins now," the new teacher announced. Alan smiled to himself, thinking not of the class, but the drama that would surely unfold.
