NORA POV Mira had been quiet since I told her to go and find out what was going on. She refused, saying the king had ordered her to stay by my side. Now she was trying to distract herself—arranging the fruit bowl that didn’t need arranging, pouring water into a cup I never touched. I watched her for a while. “Mira, please,” I said softly. She looked at me, shaking her head. “The king said I should stay here. I can’t disobey him.” I sat up a little. “I just want to know what’s happening. I’ll be fine. Go and come back fast. I’ll cover up for you, I promise.” She hesitated, biting her lip. “Mira, please,” I said again. “I just need to know. Please.” After a long pause, she sighed. “Okay.
