Lyra Vance sat cross-legged in her leather chair, fingers steepled under her chin.
She stared down at the man bowing frantically at her feet.
To the world, she was the brilliant 20 years old CEO who'd turned her family's struggling tech company into a multi-billion dollar empire.
But behind the cameras, she was known only as The Slayer.
The most feared mafia boss in the underground world who controlled everything from arms deals to information networks across three continents.
Two massive bodyguards stood rigid at either side of the door. These are men who'd sworn loyalty to her long before she took over both her family's legitimate and illegal businesses.
'This is boring', she thought, her crimson lips twitching with barely concealed irritation as she watched the man grovel.
"Chen Wei," she said with a low voice, the same voice that made grown men tremble in the underground.
"You've been with us for five years. I've given you a company car, a house in the city's best district, and a salary three times the industry average. I even approved your daughter's medical expenses when she was hospitalized last year, all without you having to ask."
She leaned back in her chair, her dark eyes fixed on his trembling form. "Now tell me, what did the Jiang Group offer you to sell us out?"
"I'm sorry! Please, forgive me!" Chen Wei sobbed, pressing his forehead to the marble floor.
'Hehehe… they paid me two billion. Even if I go to prison, I'll be set for life once I get out… she's too focused on keeping up her respectable CEO image to actually kill me… rich people like her don't get their hands dirty…'
He kept begging, repeating the same apologies over and over, thinking his tears would move her to mercy. But his thoughts were cut short by her next words.
"Kill him," she said casually, as if ordering coffee instead of a man's life.
Chen Wei froze, his sobs choking in his throat.
Terror flooded his face as he scrambled backward on his hands and knees. "W...what? No! You can't.. you're a CEO, you can't just.."
"Tsk," Lyra clicked her tongue, rolling her eyes.
'Not even sincere with his begging. And he thinks I'm afraid to get my hands dirty?'
She leaned forward slightly, her dark eyes glinting with amusement.
"Oh, I almost forgot, cut his dominant hand off first. Then pack it nicely in a velvet box and send it to Jiang Group's CEO. Tell him if he ever tries to steal from me again, I'll send him something he can't afford to lose."
She paused, a cold smile playing on her lips.
"And make sure the police find evidence that he's been embezzling funds from our company for years. Let the world think this is just another corporate scandal."
With that, she stood up and smoothed out the creases of her tailored suit.
She walked towards the door completely ignoring the man's screams that grew weaker.
Her bodyguards moved forward without hesitation, and she didn't look back once, she had a plane to catch.

Lyra sat in her private jet's lounge, flipping through a thick paperback her secretary had thrust into her hands before takeoff.
"To pass the time, ma'am," she'd said, adjusting her glasses nervously.
"It's the most popular romance novel right now, everyone's reading it."
Lyra's eyebrows shot up as she read, her expression growing more incredulous with every page.
"What the f**k is this?" she muttered, slamming the book down on the mahogany table.
The cover showed a handsome man with piercing brown eyes pulling a crying woman into his arms. The title The Boss's Unwanted Bride gleaming.
"The cannon fodder is so goddamn stupid, chasing after a man who clearly hates her, bullying the female lead for no reason… and she has the same name as me?"
She skimmed ahead of the pages, where the character Lyra was sold to the black market and took her own life after being abandoned by everyone she'd ever known.
"Pitiful," she sighed, running a hand through her long black hair.
"The female lead's a pretentious b***h too, acting all innocent while letting everyone else clean up her messes. What a crappy story… if she were really smart, she'd be building her own power instead of waiting for some man to save her."
'As if she'd know anything about that', she thought wryly, picking up her cup of aged black tea.
Just as she brought the cup to her lips, the plane shuddered violently.
"Mayday! Mayday! Engine failure…we're going down! Repeat, we are losing altitude fast!" The pilot's panicked voice crackled over the intercom.
Lyra grabbed the armrests as the plane tilted at a terrifying angle, the ground rushing up to meet them far too fast.
Through the window, she could see flames erupting from the left wing, smoke billowing across the sky.
She'd survived countless assassination attempts but there was nothing she could do to stop a plane from crashing.
"f**k…" she whispered, closing her eyes as the world exploded in fire and noise.

The first thing Lyra felt was a heavy arm pinned across her waist and a warm body pressed against her back.
Her eyes snapped open, and panic sets through her veins as she look at the unfamiliar room.
Then she heard it, a deep, husky voice right beside her ear.
"Lyra Crosswell."
The name hit her like ice water. Lyra Crosswell, not Lyra Vance. The cannon fodder character from that terrible book.
She'd read about this exact scene, the night she'd spent the night with the villain and sealed her own fate.
'Don't tell me… I'm her now?' she thought frantically, her body going rigid as she tried to process what was happening.
The man behind her shifted, his breath hot against her neck. "Do you know what you've done?"
's**t,' she cursed internally. 'After this, he'll drag me to the black market and sell me off like livestock… I need to think fast.'
She could feel him tensing up, his grip tightening slightly.
"Y..you get off me!" She said struggling but she can feel her body getting hot.
"It's okay hmmm…" he murmured, leaning down to kiss her, roughly at first, then softer when she whimpered and tried to turn her head away.
"Stop struggling…" he said against her lips as his hands roamed over her body.
"You like me right? Everyone says you've had a crush on me for ages…"
Before she could respond, she could feel the heat spreading through her body became unbearable, making her dizzy and weak.
'What's happening' she thought feeling her resolve slip as her limbs grew heavy.
She let out pitiful sobs, her body trembling as she continued to resist. Damien's eyes darkened with desire as he began removing his clothes.
"You look so ravishing right now baby, your asking for it”
