Chapter 50 - 1st college race

"Heard your party was bouncing last night?" Jackie, one of the waitresses we had grown to love, said as we entered Bob's diner and headed for our usual table in the back. The diner was busy these days, and apparently that was down to us. Word got around that we hung out here sometimes, and food was awesome. Bob was delighted of course!

"It was Jackie. You'll have to come to the next one, our parties are always legendary!" Harry says draping an arm over her shoulder. Jackie was in her 50s, short, a little plump, but motherly, and we all loved her. "I'd never keep up with you lot, my partying days are well and truly over young Harry. I just like to hear of you lot enjoying yourselves. But behave, no trouble ok" she says with a mock sterness.

She wanders off to get our drinks and put our food order in. It's always the same so nobody ever gives their order unless they want something extra.

Later that night, Bex says she needs to get an early night. She has a big comp on next week, so will be training tomorrow. I stand up with her and say I'm off to bed too.

"Bex, I'm up with you to start, but just go ok, don't hang around. I know you don't need to take it easy or pace yourself, but I do" Lina comes up beside me. We are the newest runners on the team, so we are up front together, the ones that have been on the team longest and proved themselves as competent runners go last, in the hope they overtake other teams, and we place top.

"I know, but you'll be fine Lina, you can certainly hold your own too" I've done my stretches, so I look for Nate at the side. There he is, I lock eyes with him almost straight away.

Nate.

"You know dude, there was once a time where my sister would search for me in the crowd before anyone else. I guess I know my place now" Joe teases me as we see Bex smile over at me.

"Awww Joey feeling left out" I grab him in a headlock and rustle his hair.

"f**k you Nate, i'll always be her number 1 dude" He laughs at me.

"She's never going to hold this pace lads" Jake says as we watch her come through the trees for the second time. She hasn't broken a sweat, and is running at the same pace as she started.

"Ah you have little faith young man" Joe replies without looking away from Bex as she dissappears again. 8 minutes later, we see Lina come from where Bex had in the trees. She's still looking strong too, although she'd dropped her pace a bit, but that's what the majority of runners do, they start off strong to get ahead, then drop their pace a bit so they're able to hold it, and then possibly give a little more at the end when they may need it.

"Lina is looking good too Harry" Joe says, and Harry is bouncing on the spot. He's never had a girl he could properly support in a sport before, this is all new to him, but he seemed to be liking it.

Almost 9 minutes later, Bex comes back through the trees and heads off up the hill towards us and the finish line. She still doesn't break her pace as she starts the elevation.

"f**k Nate, your girl has some f*****g power!" Jake says in a shocked tone.

"That's my f*****g twin dudes!" Joe says proudly as Bex reaches the top of the hill. She picks up her pace then, not that she needs to, nobody has come close to giving her any competition. But Bex likes to give her all in competitions, even if she's competing against herself.

"She's on fire! How can she pick up the f*****g pace after not dropping it at all from the start?" Jake is honestly bewildered at Bex strength.

She comes through the finish line and I'm there to hold her in my arms when she runs in to them.

I kiss the top of her head and hold her tight.

"My star, you are so f*****g beautiful. I love you Bex Holden " I say in to her ear.

"Move it lover boy, twins turn" Joe nudges me, and I leave Bex go instantly. I will never come between them, ever. He picks her up and spins her around, then lowers her back down before giving her a big hug. Then Harry and Cal do the same. The other football guys just mumble their congratulations to her, not knowing if they'd be punched if they gave her a hug.

Bex kisses me quickly before going back to the finish line and waiting with her coach for her team mates to come through.
