As we drove away from my queen’s house, a number of thoughts flooded my mind. The first one was that I hadn’t been in the human world in many decades. I was amazed I still knew how to drive.
Then my thoughts shifted to Hayley and everything that had just happened. It hadn’t been a coincidence I had come for her when I did. I was convinced Mahaeru had sent me here because she knew Vasant had learned about Hayley and had sent his soldiers to find her and kill her.
Once the soldiers didn’t return with the news that they had succeeded, Vasant would send more, and I had barely been able to hold my own against these. I wasn’t sure I could take much more.
