14 Hayley Ash guided the horse through the forest for about an hour. Then we reached a narrow dirt road and followed it for another thirty minutes, until it ended at the gates of a sprawling village, Verdante, as Ash had told me. Here, all the houses looked like the chalet—beige-colored walls, brown roofs, and lots and lots of vines and plants and flowers. On the way here, Ash had applied a glamour over us both.
