Emily’s POV I sat there, staring at him, trying so damn hard to keep my face blank. To stop my throat from tightening, to stop the sting behind my eyes. I wouldn’t let him see it. I wouldn’t let him win. Because God help me, I wanted to believe him. I wanted to believe every word he said…that he loved me, that he saw me, that this wasn’t just about s*x. And for a second, just a second, I almost let myself feel it. But I knew better. I knew what happened when you let someone in. When you let yourself believe in love, in forever, in happy endings. You got destroyed. You got left broken. I had been there before, and I swore I would never go back. I forced a breath out and pushed back in my chair, standing up. “That’s enough, Cole.” My voice was calm. Cold. Like none of this mattered
