CORBYN’S POV
Gemma relentlessly pursued me during the course of the week. It had started off as a joke but it became pretty intense.
Every morning, I would find her waiting for me at my locker and at lunch, she made it a point that she sat at our table. Every practice or competition I had at the school she was there. During free period-she was there. Even in the carpark-she was there. She was like a stalker but probably one that attended private school or something. I couldn’t shake her off.
Blue was an absent presence in my life, ever since she decided to juggle my brother and Levi. I had warned her that her dumb harebrained escapades were going to blow up in her face, but did she even listen to me? No.
Besides, I had decided to let that ship sail. She had made it plain as day, that any feelings I had for her were unreciprocated, so it was best for me to lick my wounds and move on. Plenty of fish in the sea and stuff, right?
During athletics practice Gemma was on the bleachers cheering me on and after she was patiently waiting for me in the locker room.
Torren tipped me off and I sprinted in the opposite direction, without taking a shower or getting my stuff from the locker. In my quest to make a quick getaway I came crashing into a soft body that also seemed to be in a hurry. The impact almost sent her sprawling, and I caught her arm quickly before she collided with the wall.
“I’m so sorry!” I blushed at the look on her face that said she was equally flustered.
Finally, she steadied herself enough to respond. “No...I’m also to blame-I should have-shouldn’t have-I’m so sorry...” She laughed softly and gently pushed me away from her.
“Are you okay?” I asked with a shy smile.
“Yeah...Zara,” she held out a hand and I went blank. “Sorry, meant my name is Zara Wilson.”
I don’t know how I didn’t notice it before but Zara was a total babe! She was a smoking light golden-haired beauty, with long, light tresses that really added the wow factor. Gray eyes that looked blue at first glance, but they had flecks of gold and brown. And they seemed to appear to change color from gray to blue to green depending on clothing, lighting, and mood. A stellar body, that was clothed in a pale yellow blouse, revealing a sheer white striped bra and a white skater skirt that teased her knees. They say blondes have more fun and I seemed to be having all the fun gawking at her right now.
“Oh, yes-of cos,” I mentally facepalmed myself. “I’m-”
“Corbyn Coleman,” she finished off for me. “I recently moved from Boston and just joined your class. I’m fairly new-I doubt that you even know me.” She furrowed her brows skeptically.
“Oh yeah...I do remember you actually...”I admitted, suddenly intrigued.
She snorted in disbelief. “Of cos you do.”
“Hey...Thanks for the vote of confidence.” I said with enough sarcasm that she giggled.
She tilted her pretty head and smirked. “You’re funny pretty boy.”
“Oh..does that mean you think I’m hot?” Did I just say that? I think I’m hanging around Blue too much, she’s clearly rubbing off on me.
“Maybe...” The girl flirted, under long dark lashes.
“Were you about to leave? Can I give you a lift somewhere?”
She bit her lower lip.“My mother told me not to talk to strangers...”
I laughed and nodded. “Fair enough. But I’m hardly a stranger, we’re in the same stream, right?”
“Valid argument pretty boy.” A flash of a smile passed over her face as she tightened her grip on her backpack. “Lead the way then...”
I typed a quick text to Torren that he should bring my gym bag to my house later, then shut off the phone.
“If you keep calling me that then I’m going to be forced to find you a nickname too.”
“I’d like to see if you can beat mine.”
“Is that a challenge?”
“Take it how you want it...” Her pink lips taunted me.
When we got to the car I opened the door for her. “Quite the gentleman are we?”
“The epitome,” I replied before I strode around to my side of the car and jumped in.
“So where to princess?” I asked, fiddling with the stereo.
“Princess, huh?”
“It’s quite fitting don’t you think?”
“Because of my blonde hair?”
“Your words not mine, snowflake.”
“Does that mean you think I look like Princess Elsa from Frozen?” she snickered.
“Beauty with brains. I like it...” Why was I being so bold today? Who was I?
She laughed and shook her head.
“I’m actually hungry. Can we stop somewhere and grab a bite to eat?” she asked.
“You mean like a date?” I joked.
“Just shut up and drive Coleman!” She slid her gaze to mine and then back to the road.
“What do you feel like?” I drove around the circular drive and out onto the main road toward the city. My phone connected to the stereo, and soon, music filled the speakers.
“McDonald’s.”
“A girl who likes to eat junk food? I’m beginning to like you more and more snowflake.”
“Oh, I’m way ahead of you pretty boy.”
At the restaurant, I led her to a secluded booth and waited until she was seated before I asked her for the food order. She reached for her wallet but I told her it was on me. She wanted a Bacon BBQ Burger with the Ranch Salad, while I got the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Coca-Cola and french fries. For dessert, we had the hot fudge sundae.
While we ate the conversation did not cease for a moment and seemed to consist of school stuff, books that we had read, our interests (which turned out to be very similar), funny anecdotes and basically anything and everything.
When we were almost done eating, my phone went off and I cursed whoever it was that was interrupting us. Wait I take that back-it was Blue.
“Where are you?! Practice started half-an-hour ago and you’re not here yet?” she berated.
“I’m sorry Blue!” I slapped my forehead. “I lost track of time. I’ll be there in a bit. Just give me about ten minutes okay?”
“Ten minutes, Coleman. That’s all you’re going to get.” She growled in a deep, menacing voice before she hung up.
“You have to go?” I hated the disappointed look on Zara’s face.
“Yeah...I’m really sorry. I was enjoying your company though.”
Her face flushed and perked up. “Me too...”
“If you’re not opposed to it-we can do this again?” I put forward. “If you want to that is?”
Zara smiled, and a tiny dimple danced at the corner of her full lips. “Yes, I’d like that actually.”
“Then let’s get you home Zara Wilson.”
Hey, I think I’m actually getting a hang of this mo
