Jayden's POV
The movement was sharp enough that the faint sound of my shoes echoed against the hallway floor... I turned around.
I didn’t look back.
If I did, I was afraid that I would punch the man she was talking to and drag her to my side.
I hated that feeling... It felt like she had some kind of power over me, even without doing anything.
Dion noticed the shift immediately.
He excused himself from the nurse and hurried after me.
“Sir?”
I ignored him and kept walking.
My steps were steady as I walked toward the exit, but the anger simmering beneath the surface was difficult to ignore.
How dare she?!
She excused herself from a meeting which could cost her her job, from me... And she went to the hospital to hang out with another guy?
She got a call about someone in the hospital, the guy was in hospital clothes and she was smiling while speaking to him... Everything pointed to the fact that he was the one she left me for.
Yet... There was no boyfriend in her investigation file.
What was she then? The mother of my child was a possible slut?
The hospital doors slid open automatically when I approached.
Cold evening air brushed against my face as I stepped outside, but it did nothing to calm the hot anger boiling inside me.
Only then did Dion catch up beside me.
“Sir, did you find..."
“Yes,” I interrupted.
My voice was calm, a little bit too calm. My eyes stared at the distance, trying to force myself from thinking about the picture I saw just a few hours ago, but it was proving to be difficult.
Dion went silent immediately.
He had worked with me long enough to recognize the warning signs.
I stopped near the car and looked straight ahead, my expression unreadable.
For several seconds I said nothing.
The image of Elara standing in that hallway replayed in my mind again, no matter how hard I tried to push it to the back of my mind, it came back like a boomerang, forcing me to react.
The relaxed posture, the quiet laughter... I was the father of her children yet I had never seen her laugh like that, not for me.
I had only seen her pain and anger.
My eyes hardened.
Fine.
If that was how things were going to be…
Then perhaps it was time to stop being patient.
“Approve the proposal,” I said finally without turning around.
Dion blinked slightly beside me.
It was subtle, but I noticed it.
“Sir?”
I let out a small sigh and then turned towards him. “Inform the company that we would love to start working with them as soon as possible.” My tone remained perfectly even.
She had come here for her company, and that's how angry she was... Something told me that if she had her way, she would leave this city and never come back.
But there was no way I was letting that happen. Not when she had my children... Possibly my children with her.
I paused slightly, a side of my lips raising before speaking again. “On one condition.”
Dion turned toward me fully now, confusion flickering across his expression.
I gestured to the car door, and he opened it immediately. I held the top, coming to stand in front of it before looking back at him.
“She should be transferred here.”
Dion’s brows lifted slightly in surprise.
But he didn’t question it. “Yes, sir,” he nodded, understanding exactly what I meant.
I slid into the back seat of the car.
As the door closed behind me, my gaze drifted toward the hospital entrance one last time.
Elara Reyes clearly believed she could walk into my life whenever she pleased…
Disappear whenever she pleased…
And keep her secrets buried indefinitely.
A faint, humorless smile touched my lips.
She was wrong.
Very wrong.
Because whether she liked it or not... Our lives were about to become much more closely connected.
And this time…
She wouldn’t be able to run.
I may want only the children, but that didn't mean that during that time she could go around with any man and as many men as she pleased. I would never allow it.
"Oh and also," I began as soon as Dion started the car. His eyes moved to his rear-view mirror to show that he was listening before his eyes darted towards the road again.
"Get me a DNA test of the twins, something to prove that they are mine."
I was tired of the 'what ifs', although I was inwardly certain before, but judging by the way Elara related to guys, I wasn't sure what to believe anymore.
Once the proof was in my hands... The next thing was to bring my children home and secure my position in the family.
Dion nodded without saying anything and returned his attention to the road again.
Throughout the ride, my mind kept going back to what I saw at the hospital. As much as I tried, I couldn't get Elara out of my mind, and I felt a bitter feeling rising in my chest at the image of the man she was with.
Was he truly her boyfriend?
Did she have something that she liked or maybe loved?
But he didn't seem Korean. She had been in Korea for over five years, if she had a boyfriend... Shouldn't he be Korean?
It was only when the car came to a stop that I realized that I had arrived at my mansion. Without waiting for Dion to open the door, I came down from the car and went straight into the house.
"Welcome back sir..." Agnes... The housekeeper greeted me as I walked in, her expression a bit surprised. She had a cloth in her hand and it seemed as though she was heading somewhere.
"Hm..." I answered and took a few steps past her when I suddenly stopped, realizing something.
"Wait," I called, and she stopped before slowly turning around, an expression of confusion on her face. "Sir?"
Apart from the monthly report, which I seldom read or listened to, I had never really had any form of relationship with the staff... Even calling them back was a surprise, but that wasn't my business at the moment.
"Do you have children?" I asked the middle-aged lady.
Her eyes widened a little, before she nodded."Y...yes sir." She said, after finding her voice, then she raised three of her fingers and pointed at me. "Three."
Three children?
"How old are they?" I asked without blinking.
"The oldest is seventeen, the middle is fourteen, and I had just given birth to the last one a few months before I started working here, sir." She answered and I noticed a small light appear in her eyes as she spoke of her children.
"So..."
How long had she been working here?
"She's eight."
"Good." I nodded.
She was experienced, because I didn't know what I was doing. I only wanted to make sure the children were with me and no one else as soon as the DNA results were out. "Prepare a room." Instructed. "Or rather two rooms in the mansion for children, twins under the age of five."
This time she couldn't mask her confusion and surprise. Agnes' eyes widened, and her lips parted. "C...children?" The words came out of her mouth before she could stop them.
I blinked and then ignored her words. "Have the room prepared and ready in the next few weeks because they will be living here from now on."
She stared blankly at me as though in shock.
I almost didn't believe my words as well, but I needed my position in the company secured.
"Any problem?" I asked, raising a brow at the frozen maid.
She quickly shook her head. "No... No sir. I'd do that right away." She said, then she bowed and left my sight.
I was trying to make myself believe that I only wanted the children because of the position, but deep down... I knew there was another reason I wanted the children here, next to me... Because I knew she would follow.
My eyes darkened as I remembered the scene from the hospital once again...
Once she did... I would make sure that she never forgot me again.
