Ch 6

1630 Words
Marc wanted to laugh when he tagged the woman around as she shops because at first, it was annoying as the woman barely glanced at him as she’s too busy looking at her list and such. Then when he saw how she kept going on her tippy toes to reach for some items, he thought the day won’t be too bad, it was amusing and funny to see her struggle till she suddenly began hopping and almost fell. The image of her in an oversized sweater and shorts made it look like she's a fallen butterfly trying to test her wings, the fabric was too fluffy and it was fluttering like wings when he stared at her, it was the first time he encountered such behavior in a woman, I thought all short woman enjoys wearing heels? And why did I call her little butterfly out loud? “I’m gonna kill Mia and Tyson,” Marc hears her grumble as he waits for her to pay, apparently the couple had finished and are on the way to his place to keep his stuff, funny how it’s my groceries but I’m not the one buying them… I'm going to kill him if he bought me useless things... “You’re not the only one who wants to kill them,” he helps her carry the paper bags and she sighs, feeling guilty he had to be with her because of them. I have the worst best friend ever and she's not even good at playing cupid! Like what the heck? I'm happy being single and not expanding my cafe, ohhhh, I see what's going on here, if she thinks that leaving me here with him, will lead me to open up to him about what I do for a living, then she's wrong! I would never! “How did you and Mia become friends?” he suddenly asks cutting her raging thoughts on killing her best friend, Mia had found him right before they left, claiming Tyson wanted him to have the keys back, something about he should not let others drive his car. Another funny thing, damn these two, they really set us up! Tyson you brute! I'll get you back for this, wait till your dad hears about you skipping work to set me up, oh, I'll have fun seeing you suffer from the workload, just you wait... “We’ve been friends since birth, our moms had been best friends since high school,” she shrugs as she looks at the road, it’s a good thing the drive is short, or else I don’t know how much longer I can stay with him, this is so awkward... “So you two just continued the legacy?” Marc didn’t want to converse with her, mind too busy thinking of ways to kill his friend but the silence since they shopped till now was getting damn suffocating as he drives and he wasn’t sure if the woman didn’t talk to him on purpose or because of what he said. “Kinda, but right now I’m questioning why I ever bothered,” she pouts as she scrolls her phone, letting him drive and hoping he’d stop talking to her, not only was she worried about him remembering last night but also annoyed by his comment about indirectly saying she’s too short. I do hope he truly doesn’t remember that’s why he hasn’t said anything, and I was born short! Ugh! The nerve! “Me too, I keep asking myself why I keep Tyson around,” Marc glance at her for any reaction but she kept looking at her phone, a frown evident as it seems she’s focused, suddenly it rang, “I have to take this,” not looking at him, she answers. “Yes, Nathan?” Marc took another quick glance at her, I thought Tyson said she’s single? Who’s Nathan? Wait! Why do I care? “Okay, don’t worry about that, but why are you calling me if the one at fault is Ugene? Why can’t he call me himself?” they stopped at a red light and Marc tried hard not to stare but failed as he heard another man’s name, she was tilting her head as she blinks, thinking. “Okay, it’s fine, make sure Ugene and Blake get it done under Hayden’s supervision if not Chester, do I make myself clear? We need those and most of the things you mentioned they forgot to order are the ones I need most to get my job done,” she absentmindedly bit the tip of her thumb, a habit when she's too focused as she takes in Nathan’s explanation, I’m absent for 1 day and this happened, oh this is funny… If Marc didn’t know any better, it sounded like a boss scolding her staff by the way she put her words, but then again, she was talking so softly like she’s afraid the man on the other line would cry if she raises her voice. And why is she biting her thumb? Miss, you look like a kid with your height next to me, please don't do that, it makes you look like a toddler now... Marc bit back his tongue from speaking his mind, laughing to himself as he continues his drive quietly, now curious as to what she's discussing. “Okay, I’ll see you boys tomorrow, I missed you dorks today,” she chuckles at the end before she hung up the call, “Your destination is on the left, you have arrived at your destination,” the GPS says as Marc drives to park outside the building but Amaya quickly told him to take the basement parking. *** "Thank you for helping me and well, for today I guess? Would you like a glass of water?" Amaya blushes as Marc place all of her groceries on her counter, the male huffing as he tries to catch his breath. Amaya honestly thought today was an unlucky day, first, she woke up in a stranger's house and realized she lost her virginity. Then in the afternoon, her best friend drags her to set her up with Marc, the guy who took away her virginity. Oh, the irony and the setting of our lives...  When she thought the day with him would finally come to an end, it worsens when the elevator malfunctioned thus having her to asked him for help, the only lucky thing about that is he hadn't left and I could still ask for his help... "Sure, a glass would be good," and he accepted the glass, gulping it down in seconds, Amaya felt guilty to ask earlier but how could she carry all of her groceries alone? Especially when she needs to use the stairs? If the elevators weren't malfunctioning, she could easily hold the door open so she could get her things without bothering anyone, but... "I'm really, truly sorry for today, this is not how I imagine to meet you, I blame the lovebirds for this, this is the worst set up for me yet! Not that I want them setting me up with anyone," she huffs as she washes the glass, mumbling the last part of her words, not realizing the male was observing her with curiosity. She looks funny angry, and that's a bad kind of mumbling because I can hear you... "Well, it's their fault, don't say sorry, now if you'd excuse me, I have to go home and inspect what those two bought for my fridge," he took a step to leave her kitchen but stops when he noticed his surroundings, there was a shelve of recipe books, on cakes, western, Asian and Mediterranean dish, there was also a lot of equipment that looks similar to different backgrounds slides and camera stands. "Oh! Thank you again for today, and honestly, I'm not interested in relationships right now, I hope you understand," her words bought Marc out of his thoughts on her book recipe collection and weird types of equipment, "What?" he whirls around so fast that Amaya flinched. "I'm not interested in relationships?" "So?" "So... I mean to say I'm not interested in you? But I do appreciate your help for today and sorry for what you had to go through with me today," "Look, Maya, don't get this wrong, but I'm not interested in you too, so we're even and you don't owe me an explanation," he raised an eyebrow when she blinks, the look of confusion clear as day on her face. "Than that's good! I guess, I hope we both don't have to run into each other anymore unless our friends do something as stupid as this again," she beams, smiling as her hands clap together after his words sink in and silence fell upon them. "I agree, let's just forget this day ever happened," he held out his hand and she blinks at it, looking at the sticking hand then back to his serious face. "Let's agree today never happened and try to avoid making our idiotic best friends set us up again," he explains and slowly she nods, taking his hand. It also means I'll try to forget you took away my first and the unlucky events of today... This would mean I have to forget the image of her almost falling because she's too short to reach the shelves...
