Chapter twenty-nine

LAYLA’S POINT OF VIEW

“May I suggest we move this conversation somewhere more private.” Said, Elder Ramus.

“Yes. My office now, I’ll inform my Bate and Gamma.” Lewis all but announced

“Are you sure they can be trusted with this information, Alpha?”

“Yes, Elder Ramus they are the most trusted people in the pack,” Lewis confirmed.

So, we walked through the doors into the packhouse and were quickly joined by Kane and Angelo with their mates, Leah and Lily.

“Layla, can you go get Jess and bring her to my office please?” Lewis asked, as we got to the right floor. I nodded and walked towards their bedroom just as Jess was coming out of it.

She had a radiant smile on her face. She was wearing a simpler dress, it reached her knees and hugged her waist. It had a subtle pattern of scattered stars on it with the moon phases on the rim of the skirt.

“Oh, hey Layla. What are you doing up here?” she asked a little bit surprised.

“Lewis asked me to bring you to his office,” I said, and we walked down the hallway together.

“How come?” she sounded almost terrified now.

“I’m not sure, but he and Elder Ramus seem very anxious,” I said taking her hand to try to calm her down. I wasn’t sure what was going on but I sure as hell wasn’t going to let anything happen to her.

As we walked into his office all eyes turned to me and Jess. Elder Ramus was standing to the left of the desk a few feet away though. Kane and Angelo were sitting on the sofa that was at an angle to his desk with their mates next to them. Peter was sitting in an armchair almost facing Lewis who was sitting in his chair behind the desk.

I walked over to Peter and sat in the armchair next to his and took his hand. Jess went to stand next to Lewis but instead he pulled her onto his lap and held her close as though at any moment she would be snatched away from him. He buried himself in her hair and breathed deeply trying to calm himself. Peter seemed really anxious too, I started to get a bit nervous myself. What the hell was going on all of sudden?
