Chapter thirty-seven

JESS’S POINT OF VIEW I opened my eyes to find myself in some beautiful woods. I knew I hadn’t been here before but instead of feeling on high alert, I felt so calm and at peace. I walked around a bit not sure what to do. I found myself in a clearing with only a large willow tree in the centre and a stream running around the edge of the woods. As I walked closer to the tree, I heard a voice calling my name. A soft, gentle female voice. “Jessica…” When I was only a few feet away a woman stepped out from behind the tree, and I stopped not sure what to do. I don’t think she meant me harm, but I still didn’t know what was going on the last thing I remember was the rouges. “I can answer all your questions, my child. Come sit with me.” She said sitting down next to the stream. I walked over to join her. When I was closer to her, I noticed she was very beautiful, she had long red hair and clear blue eyes. She was wearing a thin white dress that flowed down to the ground skimming the grass. It was at this point that I realized I didn’t have anything on myself, I went to cover myself feeling like it would be rude to be naked in front of this woman who just seemed to emanate this power. But before I could say anything I was suddenly wearing this white top and skirt. I sat down next to this woman, not knowing where to start or even what to say. “My name is Keira. I am one of your ancestors.” She said this as though it clarified everything. “Okay.... I’m sorry but I still don’t know what is going on.” I spoke. She chuckled softly. Looking at me with very gentle eyes. “I know you have many questions. I wish I could give you all the answers you look for but some things you will have to find out for yourself, but I can give you some information that will give you the help you need.” She said tucking some hair behind my ear. I nodded not wanting to disturb the peace of this place. She took a breath seeming to steady her as though it will be difficult to say. “You are the prophecy wolf that the Elder mentioned, and you are destined to put an end to the Warlock, known as Balthazar. He has been around longer than anyone really knows. He is after world domination. For a lack of a better term. Thinking that Supernatural beings, or more correctly Warlocks and the like, should rule over all other beings.” At this point, she paused seeing how I was. I closed my mouth realizing it was hanging open. “I was one of the few hybrids he forced to be his mate and made to bear his heir, the last one in fact. I tried to kill myself, but he had cast a spell making me unable to do anything for myself. I died in childbirth along with the baby.” I opened my mouth to say that I was sorry about how her life turned out to be, but she held up her hand silencing me before I began. “It is not your fault child, and it is better if we did die as he would’ve gotten what he wanted.” She smiled at me, a kind but very sad smile. “You are the one that has been born with more power than any of your ancestors. The moon Goddess herself blessed you with these powers. Trust in her, trust in yourself, friends and family.” At the last word, I blurted out “What happened to my parents?” before I could even think about what I wanted to say. She looked sadly at me before speaking. “They perished in a fire that raided their pack. Your father was a full-blooded wolf. Your mother was a full-blooded witch. Both their bloodlines date back to the very first of their kinds, they were destined to be together to make you. On that fateful day, they were running with you in your mother’s arms. The fire was started because of the warlock. He knew you had been born, and he also knew you would be the one that filled the prophecy. Your father and mother were nearly corned by his men, and they knew they wouldn’t get away. So, your mother did the only thing she could, she cast a spell to take you away somewhere far and where you would be safe and loved.” She paused. “Why didn’t they come with me?” I asked realizing tears were streaking down my face. I was shocked hearing my voice crack. “Because magic can be traced, she used her last few moments making sure the trace had disappeared.” She leaned over and wiped my cheeks. “They loved you more than anything and knew you were destined for greatness.” She smiled at me. “In reality, you should have died twice in your life. Once in the fire, then again when you were 12 years old and were attacked by those male wolves. Your wolf showed up sooner than expected, she is the one that killed those wolves and the rouges tonight. She manifested your powers.” She paused looking at me. “You should have been taught by your mother, but instead you’re going to have to learn by yourself and sooner than I would have thought. Every time you use your power Balthazar can sense it, the more power you use, the more he can home in on it. Your wolf doesn’t really know what she’s doing she just goes into protective mode and then it just happens. The couple of times you have used your powers have only been for seconds, so he won’t be able to track you to your exact location. But from now on be careful and I suggest you start training.” I sat there dumbstruck. I should have died twice. My parents died saving me. I had powers. I was being hunted by this Warlock who just wanted me to give him a child. Some minutes passed before either of us said anything. I always had faith in, whatever happens, happens and I just expected it. So even though the thought of everything made me angry and sad. I decided to take it and that if and when I met this warlock, I will kill him slowly making him pay for everything he has ever done. “How do I train?” I asked. For a few seconds Keira just stared at me flabbergasted at first, she probably thought I would freak out, I mean I am internally, but I knew that it wouldn’t get me anywhere and if my friends and family are in danger I would die before this warlock even gets a chance to kill them. “Meditation, controlling your emotions. If you can picture it in your mind’s eye all you need to do is physically feel it and it will happen. Also, being marked at the full moon will help you gain control of your powers, plus Balthazar will need to rid your mark before he can take you as his. As the mark will stop him from marking you himself.” She spoke. “But marks are permanent, aren’t they?” I always thought even when you die your mark stays with you. “Yes, they are. Although there are a few rare spells that can remove the marks, and they are very painful.” She said this and pulled back her hair so I could see her neck. I gasped there was another mark that just didn’t look or seem right at all. But her skin around it was scarred as though she had been burnt or even skinned. “You need to go now, child.” She said cupping my cheek. “When you wake you will remember this.” I nodded, closed my eyes, and let the darkness consume me once again. I was sitting bolt upright, panting. I felt like I got hit by a truck, my body ached all over and my head was throbbing. It was a moment before I realized I was in my office on the sofa. Lewis was crouching by the sofa holding my hand looking at me as though I might disappear. “Kitten, are you okay?” He asked. “I’m fine,” I said trying to brush him off I needed to tell him everything. I looked around the room and saw that everyone was around me. The sun was setting, how long had I been out? “Kitten, you need to lay down and rest,” Lewis said trying to get me to lie back down and pull the blanket back over me. It was then I realized I was naked again but covered in dirt. I grabbed the blanket and stood up before anyone could say anything and wrapped the blanket around me like a towel. “No, I’m fine.” I snapped at him. He looked shocked, then angry and hurt. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to snap,” I said stroking his face to comfort him, he kissed my palm. “Luna, what happened?” asked Angelo “It doesn’t matter, she just woke up give her god damn minute. She’s healthy and awake; we just need to find out how the rouges got in again.” Lewis said. “Rogues are the last of the problems,” I said. Everyone turned to me with questioning looks on their faces. I sighed annoyed that I would have to explain everything and knowing we wouldn’t have much time. So, I started from the beginning and told the room at large what Kiera told me. Their faces changed from worried for my sanity, to confused, to feeling sorry for me and scared. There was silence when I finished, and they all looked at me. The next thing I know is Rhianna has gathered me in a hug. The type of hug only a mother can give. I hugged her back; Fred was rubbing her back as she was crying a little bit, he just looked so worried. The other males in the room looked a mixture of worried and getting ready to murder. All the girls had tears in their eyes. After some minutes Lewis spoke. “Alight, it’s late. Everyone goes to bed to get some sleep and rest. Tomorrow Elder Ramus will be here with the texts so hopefully, they will shed some more light on this.” He said in his Alpha tone. Rhianna pulled away. Couple by couple they left the room. Peter lagged by the door. “Should I call Andrew and let him know?” he said looking between me and Lewis. “No, I will do it after morning training,” Lewis said, Peter nodded and left the room. I sat back down on the sofa feeling suddenly exhausted. Lewis sat next to me and rubbed my back in small circles. Working on some knots makes me moan a little in appreciation. After a few moments he stopped, and I opened my eyes annoyed at him. “Don’t look at me like that, Kitten.” He said chuckling. He picked me up bridal style and carried me to our bedroom. He was kissing me softly all the way. He placed me on the bed and went to the bathroom. I soon heard the water running for a bath. I smiled to myself, my body feeling heavier than I can contemplate. My eyes closed before I could even attempt to try to stay awake anymore. The next thing I know is Lewis is carrying me; I snuggled closer to his chest, earning a low chuckle from him. I felt the breeze across my body, meaning he took me out of the blanket. When he placed me in the bath, I stretched my body hearing my bones crack. I sighed feeling better already. Lewis lathered my wash sponge and started slowly scrubbing the dried dirt off my skin. My skin was clean, and I was already feeling much better. Once my body was rinsed off, he started washing my hair. Massaging my scalp, easing my headache I didn’t even know I had. When I had been completely cleaned from head to foot, I soaked for a few minutes, and I let Lewis work on my lower back again. When I was out Lewis dried me, wrapped my hair in a towel. He massaged my lotion into my skin massaging as he did so, making me moan lowly. When he was done, he went to the closet and got one of my sexier night dresses. A light purple one that was see-through, with laced ends. He let my hair out of the towel and gently dried it. He put my nightdress on kissing my shoulder and neck gently; he moved my hair out the way, kissing all the way up my neck to my ear. He stopped and I groaned. “Kitten, I will do it more when you are feeling less achy. But right now, I just want to pamper you and treat you like the queen you are.” He said walking over to my dresser picking up my hairbrush. I’m fairly certain I fell asleep during my massage. Turns out Lewis knows how to do braids. He put my hair in one after he had brushed my hair. When I opened my eyes, it was still dark outside, but I didn’t feel tired. Just really refreshed, I stretched out on the bed. Feeling the bed and realized Lewis’s side was empty. I looked around and saw the clock on the nightstand and saw it was nearly 6 o’clock. He must be training or something I thought. Yeah, I’m defiantly going to try to change the amount of training that this pack does. Stretching one more time, I decided that I would go join them today. I was Luna who cares if I was late or not. I giggled inwardly. I got up and went over to the closet and pulled out some leggings and a sports bra, I put them on and quickly re-did my hair and put on some trainers. Once I was ready, I ran down the stairs into the kitchen. Rhianna and Fred weren’t in there today, maybe they were having a lay-in, and after all, they cared for me like one of their own. So last night was a major drain on everyone’s emotional battery. When I went outside, I saw everyone sparing in pairs or in groups. I jogged to where Lewis usually is. When I was looking around, I noticed one important difference. Everyone was fighting each other with a newfound passion; they were acting as though they were really trying to hit each other. When I got to the spot the boys are usually in, I found all of them there, including Fred. Lewis was fighting with Peter, Lewis just got a right hook to the jaw, and it looked like Peter already had a bloody nose. Fred had Kane in a scorpion leg lock. Angelo had just round housed kicked Rowan straight in the chest. I winced seeing it all, I guessed Lewis has told everyone to push themselves to their limits and to not let up. I put my finger and thumb in my mouth and whistled to stop them before they actually kill each other. They all stopped and covered their ears looking over at me. Lewis smiled seeing me, but his eyes went dark seeing what I was wearing, as it was all very tight and shows off my midriff. He ran to me, with his back to the others blocking their view of me. “Why the hell are you wearing that?” he growled at me. “I wanted to join in on your training considering I am the one that has to face this warlock,” I said pointedly. He contemplated this for a moment. “Do you have to wear that though?” he asked looking down at my outfit. “Yes. Otherwise, everything else is going to get caught and therefore cause me a disadvantage.” I spoke. He sighed knowing even if he tried, he wouldn’t win. He brought me over to everyone else. They all just nodded and smiled at me. “You wanting to train as well, Jess?” Peter asked looking at my outfit. Lewis growled warningly at him. I nudge him in his stomach with my elbow, rolling my eyes. “Yeah, I thought I should, given everything that has been found out,” I said. "Well, you can start with the girls," Lewis said pointing over to where the women were. "No, I want to train with you guys," I said crossing my arms. "Kitten, you're going to get hurt," Lewis said. "You don't think I can win, do you?" I said raising an eyebrow. The men looked around awkwardly, Peter and Rowan just looked smug. "Well, you haven't been trained, you need to start at the beginning." “You can take over from me with Kane. I need to go start on breakfast anyway.” Fred said walking past us, clapping Lewis on the shoulder. Fred caught the look Peter had and must have known I had some training. He seemed to just want to see what I can do. I smiled at Kane he looked at me happily to teach me from scratch, unlucky for him I trained with Peter and Andrew since being children and by the end of it, I was able to put at least one or both of them on their asses. “Alright then,” Lewis said with a sigh. “Kitten you're with Kane. Kane, you go gentle on her, or you can rethink being my Bata.” He said pointing at him. I chuckled a little and peter gave me a knowing look and a wink. Me and Kane took our places, while the others stood back in a line watching us. Kane saw me; I knew what he was thinking. He slowly started to walk in a circle. I made my face passive so that Kane had no idea what I was thinking. I knew he would make the first move all I had to do was wait for it. Kane lunged at me trying to grab me around the waist. I swiftly side-stepped him and grabbed the arm that he had flung out to try and grab me. I twisted it quickly around and held his arm behind his back. I kicked the back of his knees, making him fall to the ground. I pulled his right arm higher up his back to make sure he wouldn’t be able to break out easily. I put my knee into the small of his back with my other foot on his left wrist so he couldn’t use it to try to get me off him. Kane grunted in pain underneath me, I looked up to see the others all with their mouths hanging open, all that is apart from Peter, he just looked smug and proud at me. I smiled at him, quite proud of myself as well. Kane tapped his left hand on the ground meaning he gave up. I sprang up from him and he let out a relieved groan and picked himself up. Looking a bit annoyed as he dusted himself off. When he was done, he turned to me. “Well, that was…” he paused but then a grin spread across his face. “Bloody brilliant, Luna.” He said pulling me in for a hug. Soon enough the other guys joined us, and it turned into a big group hug. When we broke up the hug, I saw that all the other pack members were nodding and smiling at me, obviously very proud as well. I smiled still more smugly. Once we were done, I had taken all of them and the only one that was a challenge for me was Peter and Lewis. I think all the others were scared in case they actually hurt me. Although Peter didn’t put all his effort in probably because he didn’t want to die by Lewis’s hands in case, he did actually catch me. We went inside got cleaned up and got some breakfast and went about our business making sure to stay in the packhouse for when Elder Ramus turned up. Elder Ramus came into the packhouse just as we all had finished eating our lunch and once, he had put some of his stuff away in his cottage, he insisted on getting straight to the matter at hand. When he entered the office, his arms were almost overflowing with different scrolls. When he had put them all down, we all garbed one each. Turns out they were more or less the same thing that Kiera said except with a bit more insight on the powers I might have. They were all in different languages which everyone was amazed that I could read and speak it all, although apparently, I’m meant to have the power of translation as well even with animals. I also have power over the elements, mind reading, super rapid healing even for a werewolf, and the ability to relive memories and even let others see them. The coloured ink in the pictures he had were all faded but luckily Lily is a cute techie chick and got an app on her phone that can figure out the coloured pigments and remake the picture with colour. We realized that it was Clara, next to her though was Peter’s wolf, August. Me and him looked at each other confused. “Here is the blessed prophecy wolf and her guard.” Elder Ramus read out from the top of the page. “It says even if you have no powers you are meant to be stronger and faster than most wolves even Alphas, but you shall only gain these abilities if and when you are marked as love is the greatest power, we can all possess.” I continued looking at the pictures, on another scroll, there was a wolf head, but it was strange, it didn’t look like it fitted together. When I saw Lily’s phone, I realized why it was half of Clara’s head and Leo’s side by side, but their eyes were inverted. Under this picture were three words: The Fated Wolves. I looked up at the Elder for a bit more info. “You two were meant to be together since the dawn of time. Whether the moon Goddess paired you two together or not.” Me and Lewis looked at each other, yet again I was sitting on his lap in his desk chair. Elder Ramus sighed as though it was obvious. “Even if you two had other mates when you two met each other you would both feel compelled to cheat on your mates or even reject them. You two were always meant to be together one way or another.” Lewis nuzzled into my hair making me giggle. We continued looking through the scrolls and I found a picture of another wolf labelled: Kiera, the lost one. I passed it to Lily to work her magic. As we waited for that we just sat in silence apart from the shuffling of papers. Then her phone pinged, and she passed it over to me. Kiera’s wolf was just white, plain white but with crystal-like eyes. We looked through some more and I found another picture of a man and a woman, side by side. The woman was holding a baby in her arms. Under them was another picture of a male wolf, I again passed it over to Lily, even though I didn’t need colour to tell me who they were. My parents, Jack and Kara Livit. I looked just like my mum, but with my dad’s eyes. The pinging from Lily’s phone chased me out of my daydream. She showed me it and I was right, I had my mum’s hair and my dad’s eyes. The wolf was my father, Cyclone and he was almost black, but it had a hint of blue in it. I stared transfixed at all the pictures at how old they all were. So, I guess it was all true and there was no way out of it now. “I’m sorry, Luna. But I have to get all these back to the vault of the Elders.” He looked at me with remorse in his eyes, I didn’t want them to go, and I thought they were all just so precious. “I’ve saved the coloured pictures, and I’ll get them all printed for you,” Lily said holding my hand and smiling at me. I smiled back at her, and I realized then that I had been crying. Lewis cradled me to his chest, slowly rocking me and rubbing my back. I don’t know how long I was like that for but when I lifted my head, the sun was just starting to set. I looked around the room and saw that everyone had left and the bits of paper as well. I just wanted to go to bed now.
