Chapter twenty-seven

JESS’S POINT OF VIEW I was so nervous leading up to the ceremony, for some reason something was putting me on edge as though something bad was going to happen but when Lewis smiled and squeezed my hand it just all went away like magic. While I did my promises, I felt unbelievably powerful and as our blood mixed I felt my connection with all pack members begin to form, I could not help but smile to myself. As I looked out over the cheering and howling crowd, I felt so happy, like this was my one true home. I saw Henry, Rowan, and Andrew in the front row, probably cheering and clapping the loudest. I would miss them when they go back but at this moment, I physically could not be sad. I was looking forward to the run now and so was Clara who was bounding about in my head. Then the entire crowd suddenly stopped and gasped but they still looked so happy. It made me feel a little confused, so I turned around to see what made the atmosphere change. When I did, I saw Lewis in front of me on one knee looking so scared but happy. He was holding a small black velvet box open with a ring in it sitting on top of a purple silk cushion. “Kitten, I know it’s only been a few weeks but in that time, you have done things to me like no one else could. Made me feel like nothing is impossible as long as you are by my side. I could take on the whole world with one hand behind my back as long as that hand was holding on to yours. No other she-wolf could compare to your beauty, strength, or your personality. I never thought I would fall this fast. I know even if there was no mate bond, I would still be in love with you. So, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife please?” I was so stunned, and I was still reeling from just officially becoming the Luna. I think I must have stood there dumbfounded for a couple of minutes because Lewis started to look crestfallen. I realized I hadn’t done anything apart from staring at him and the ring. It had an amethyst stone in a heart shape with what looked like a white gold band. I shook my head and started to cry. Lewis almost looked like he would cry as well but for some reason, he looks so heartbroken. Then it hit me, I shook my head. He hung his head and sniffed as he stood up. “Yes! Yes! Yes!” I all but screamed. I jumped on him luckily, he caught me, and he spun me round in a circle. I started to laugh and almost shook with excitement and so much emotion. He put me down and he looked down at me. “Is that a, yes?” he asked clearly still unsure. I nodded my head, and he pulled the ring out and placed it on my finger. It fitted perfectly and I was smiling so much my cheeks started to hurt. It felt like the ring was made just for me. Lewis picked me up and spun me in a circle again. Everybody erupted in cheers and howls again even louder than before. I just walked back down the stairs from getting undressed to put my robe on for the shift and the pack run. Tradition says that the Luna's first shift, once she becomes the Luna should be in front of the whole pack. For some reason, I was more nervous now than I was about the ceremony. My wolf was so unique that as far as I know no one of similar colour has ever been recorded. It’s why I’ve only shifted when it’s needed and only Peter knows what my wolf looks like. While I walked outside again most people were already in their wolf's forms. They all bowed their heads respectfully to me as I walked past; I smiled and nodded my head back meaning for them to raise their heads again. I reached where Lewis was standing in just shorts now. I smiled at him and took his hand. “How are you feeling?” He asked. “I’m good, just nervous about my wolf shift in front of all of them,” I replied. “I’m sure that your wolf will be just as beautiful as you are.” He said cupping my face and kissing my face all over. I smiled up at him and giggled. I went to go behind a tree so I could shift without being naked in front of everyone. But then Peter came up to me looking a bit worried. “Hey, Jess. Are you sure you’re ready to show your wolf in front of all these people?” I knew what Peter meant. After the first time I shifted in front of him he told me that he studied wolf history and there has never been a purple wolf before and if there was one as unique some stories of how they died were really very gruesome. Some ended up being hunted by their own kind and own pack. Some were even skinned alive and used as rugs or trophies. The thought made me shudder and because of that I never showed my wolf unless needed. “Yes. It’s about time I showed her. It’s going to happen sooner or later. I am never going to be able to keep her a secret forever.” “Alright then. Well just in case we will be here to look after you.” He said referring to himself and the guys. As I walked behind the tree Lewis gave Peter a suspicious look. Peter just nodded and stood next to Layla. I was sure that Lewis heard what me and Peter were talking about. I heard the rest of the pack shift and let Clara take over at the same time. My hands and feet turned to paws my nose turned into a snout and deep purple fur sprouted from all over my body. When I opened my eyes, everything seemed sharper and clearer. Even my sense of smell was better along with my hearing. I took a deep breath to steady myself and then slowly stepped out from behind the tree.
