Chapter twenty-eight

PETER’S POINT OF VIEW I was so happy for Jess officially being Luna and being engaged. Then I remembered that there was to be a pack run. I got suddenly very tense, and Layla noticed. “Hey what’s the matter?” she asked looking up at me with big doll-like eyes. “Nothing really. Just a bit on edge going for the run. That’s all.” I said smiling at her. She shrugged and hugged my arm. Jess came back out, and she was just in a robe, ready for the run. I saw her talk to Lewis and then I decided to make sure she was ready for the risks that might just come. Once we finished talking, I turned around and saw Lewis give me a look, we only whispered enough so that only the closest people could hear, so basically only Lewis. I just nodded at him and stood by Layla. The few remaining shifted into our wolves. And we all just sat and waited for Clara to come into sight. She might not be my Luna or in my pack anymore, but she was still my best friend. Her wolf appeared out from behind a tree, and I felt every wolf stiffen slightly. She just walked forward until she was only a few feet in front of Lewis and sat with her head down and waited. Then Lewis went up to her and nudged her with his nose. She looked up at him and he lent down and licked her cheek. She stood up and looked at me. I nodded to let her know I was still going to be on guard. Lewis turned around and we all stood up and waited. He let out a quick howl to let us know to get ready. Then without much of a warning, he and Jess took off. The rest of the pack quickly followed suit. Clara was still beautiful, but nothing beat Layla in my eyes. Her wolf, Ronnie, was an ash black wolf, not as black as Lewis he was blacker than the night. She has brilliant green eyes and white paws almost like socks. I thought it was the cutest thing ever and August agreed. As we ran with Lewis and Jess in the lead, I saw that there was more than one bat flying above us some were paired others were not, although they weren’t the only flying things, I saw pixies and fairies they left glittering trails in their wake. I also saw a couple of bears running with us. I noticed that the head doctor wasn’t with us I figured there were a select few that are allowed to not join as their jobs are nearly 24/7. I even saw, unless my eyes were deceiving me, mother f*****g Dragons! We neared the packhouse again and once we were all there, we shifted back and grabbed our clothes that we had placed out for when we came back. When we were all dressed and decent, I grabbed Layla and just kissed her like there was no tomorrow. When I let go, we were both a little breathless. She was so stunningly beautiful I will never grow tired of being near her. “What was that for?” she asked, still catching her breath. “Because you’re so Beautiful, my princess,” I said and gave her a kiss on the cheek, making her blush a little bit. We walked over to Lewis who was in discussion with Elder Ramus. “Hey, has Jess gone up to get dressed?” Layla asked cheerfully. Lewis nodded but they seemed a bit caught red-handed. Lewis then looked at me as though he was just seeing me properly. “What do you know about Jess, Peter?” he asked so suddenly it kind of caught me off guard. “Umm… Why?” I said not sure what else to say as I didn’t want to say anything that might get her in trouble.
