LEWIS'S POINT OF VIEW
I had just gotten out of the dullest meeting ever and was so ready to go to bed. I had been working nonstop all day, in and out of meetings, in training, making calls, sending emails. Being an Alpha of the largest pack isn’t an easy job.
The pack of Golden Moon had over 800 members and was surrounded by trees. To the north were some mountains, and we had a large river that ran along half the border and behind the packhouse. I was looking forward to tomorrow. It was Halloween, and we had been invited to a Halloween party at Bottomless Lagoon Pack. All the packs tend to throw big parties on holidays or for celebrations.
As Alpha, I decided to take my Bata, Kane, with me due to the fact that it was time to renew our treaty with the packs, whether we remain allies or turn rivals. I had no major problem with their pack or Alpha, so we were going to remain allies, at least for now.
By the time I got up the next day, the sun had risen. I got out of bed, took a quick shower, went down the stairs to find my mother and father and some Omegas helping to cook breakfast. After my dad handed me the title of Alpha, at the age of 21, my mum stepped down too as Luna, but she did still act like it at times when it was needed. I didn’t have a mate yet and was starting to think I was mate-less. I thought at the end of the year if I didn’t find her, I would consider myself mate-less and would then have to pick a chosen mate. My parents decided to become the head chefs of the packhouse as they loved cooking and baking so much.
“Morning son.”
“Morning, sweetie. Sleep well?”
“Morning. Well, enough, you guys?”
My parents nodded. As I sat down, they began to dish up the food. I felt starved at this point as the smell drove me wild, Leo too. I began to serve myself as there was no Luna. I was the next in line to give the signal to start eating. Normally, no one will eat until the Luna takes the first bite.
After eating, I went and got Kane so we could make a move to the other pack as the drive would take about three hours. Once I had said goodbye to everyone, we began to drive off.
In the nine years of me being Alpha, I have managed to nearly double our pack number because I decided to let in other supernatural beings. Most pack members didn’t like it and even some of the ranked members didn’t. But after reminding them that because they are not wolves, it doesn't automatically make them evil and bad, and that we were on abound by the moon goddess and all the other gods and goddesses to give them a chance and that they would be treated no differently to wolves. After that, this became a pack of wolves, vampires, witches, wizards, mermaids, bears, fairies, and all other kinds of supernatural beings. Another thing me and the Alpha of the bottomless lagoon pack have in common, we both have no problem with other supernatural beings. However, I have noticed that Alpha Victor has become increasingly irate and more aggressive.
Once we had gotten past the gates to the Bottomless Lagoon pack, Leo started to get restless. I thought it was because we don’t get a chance to run much, so I promised if we had a chance, we would go for one when we got back home. When we parked at the packhouse, we were greeted by the Alpha and Luna. Both gave me a big smile. I shook hands with the Alpha as he clapped me on the back.
“How are you? Been a while since we have seen each other,” he said in a gruff voice.
“I’m well Victor, you and Michelle?” I ask, referring to his Luna. She looked thinner and paler than when I had last saw her a few months back.
After exchanging pleasantries, Kane and I were led upstairs to the second floor to our guest rooms. We unpacked our bags and got ready for the party. I don’t party much, so I plan to enjoy myself tonight, and I might try to get a girl or two when I think this Leo growled at me. Which is odd. I thought he would have just as much pent-up energy as I did, but clearly something else had him riled up. By the time I was ready, it was nearly 6 o’clock, so I decided to collect Kane and go down to the garden where the party would be held.
When I got there, what I saw kind of took me by surprise. I thought it was just going to be an almost casual party. Turns out it was a costume party, but lucky for me and Kane, we weren’t the only ones not dressed up.
The Luna was dressed up as a fairy and the Alpha was dressed up as a prince. I had to refrain from laughing out loud when I saw them. We did a quick meet and greeted the other ranked members before the crowd came in, and the music started to get a bit too loud to have a proper conversation.
The Batas' daughter came up to me, Milly, I think her name was, and tried to get me to dance with her. Unfortunately for her, I had a bit more taste in women and didn’t like them to dress like some kind of slut. I made a vow to myself that my sister would never dress like that, not that she would anyway. She at least had class. Milly or Molly maybe? Whatever, she walked away all in a huff. I saw my Bata trying to shake off some she-wolves. His mate will not be happy when he tells her.
After a few hours, it came to 10 o’clock and I had to go to the bathroom. I made my way through the crowd trying not to run, feeling like I was going to piss myself. Once through the patio doors, I went straight to the toilet. No one was really in the hall, most of them were outside. While washing my hands, I heard some kind of argument or whatever coming from the corridor.
Upon leaving the bathroom, I was hit hard by the best scent ever, peppermint, which made Leo start to whine and howl. I decided to slowly follow the scent, but then it started to mix with iron. Leo started to whimper, knowing something was wrong. My walking turned into a slight jog.
When I rounded the corner, I was horrified at the sight before me. It was that Milly girl and a couple of others, and they were laughing at another girl that was on the floor. I saw that she was hurt, and that Molly had just kicked her in the face. I saw the girl's eyes slowly close. Fear started to grip me.
“MATE!!”
Before Molly could do any more damage, I roared “ENOUGH!!”, making the girls standing jump and shriek in fright. I ran the last few feet to them.
“It’s okay, Lewis. I was just teaching this pathetic omega a lesson.” She smirked at the girl at her feet.
I could have smacked her if I wasn’t more concerned about my mate. I knelt down and picked the girl up carefully. She had the most beautiful purple hair, and her skin was milky and smooth. Leo was going spare in my head over concern for her.
I turned around and found that a group of the pack members was staring, including Kane, the Alpha and Luna, the Bata couple, and some guards.
“Where’s your pack hospital?” I asked with urgency in my voice.
A guard, with red hair, stepped forward and told me to follow him. So, I did. When we were through the doors, there was a team of doctors and nurses already waiting. I guess this guard must have mind-linked them to get ready.
After only about 15 minutes of pacing, a group of three came in, led by the guard who showed me where to go to the hospital. They came straight up to me and asked how the girl was doing. Apparently, her name is Jessica Livit, and I must say it’s a beautiful name.
“Um, they're just doing x-rays and seeing if any major damage has occurred internally.” I was unsure about this group as all of them were males and smelled faintly of peppermint. I guessed they were her friends, or at least I hoped they were just friends.
“What happened?” demanded the one who was almost the twin of the guard. I wasn’t happy with the tone of voice he used, neither was Kane, who took a step forward.
“Forgive my younger brother, Alpha. It’s just that he and Jess have been the best of friends since being kids,” the guard said while he held his brother's elbow, holding him in place.
I looked skeptically for a moment at them and then nodded. I explained what I saw, and their eyes showed pure anger in them. The worst was this Peter, whose eyes had turned black. He quickly turned away and stormed out, assuming he was going to deal with the Molly girl. His brother, Andrew, ran after him along with the other two, probably to make sure Peter didn’t actually kill her.
“No, that honor should go to you.”
“I know bud, but we can’t just go around killing a Batas daughter, we need to know what actually happened first.”
Leo huffed and went to lie down. I began to pace again, wondering what was taking so long. She must have been there for about 40 minutes now. Just when this thought occurred, the doors to the radiation room opened, and they wheeled out Jess on her bed still unconscious. They had to take her out of her sexy ass costume and put her in a hospital gown. I knew it was what needed to be done, but I couldn’t help but get a bit jealous of the doctors and nurses seeing my mate's beautiful body.
Dr. Wade came up to me and told me, “She has a fractured rib, broken jaw, and a crack in her skull, where the heel went in. But there is no internal damage, and with plenty of bed rest she should be back to normal in about 3–4 days.”
Thank the moon goddess for wolf healing. I thanked Dr. Wade and I went into my mate's hospital room. I grabbed a chair and put it next to her bed. She had some bruising on her face and on her arms. I noticed they were the shapes of hands and fists. I growled, thinking that she was restrained while she had been hurt. Leo wanted to rip that b***h’s throat out, but I had to calm him down, knowing we had to be there for when she wakes up.
