Selena’s POV
Ten days.
That was how long it had been since Theo walked out of our bedroom door. For ten agonizing days, I hadn't seen his face or heard his voice. I know he was angry the day he left, but I wanted to fix things between us and talk.
The Sirius Pack House was usually a quiet, disciplined place, but today, it was buzzing with energy. Servants were rushing back and forth, dusting and arranging flowers.
I walked down the hallway holding a stack of files for the charity gala I was still organizing. Even though I was being discarded, I refused to stop doing my job. I was the Luna until the very last second of that contract.
"I heard she’s stunning," one of the women whispered as I passed by. She didn't see me. "A real Alpha female. Not like... well, you know."
"Finally," another voice replied. "Alpha Theo deserves someone strong. Someone who can actually give us an heir."
I stiffened, hugging the files to my chest like a shield. I kept walking, keeping my face blank. I had become an expert at pretending I was deaf. To them, I wasn't worthy.
At first, I tried to ignore the whispers and the talks around the pack, but people weren't even trying to hide it from me that my husband is apparently courting Claire, which explains where he has been for the last couple of days.
The thought made bile rise in my throat. My husband, the man whose scent was still on my pillow was out there dating another woman while I sat here counting down the days to my own eviction.
A sudden commotion from the front entrance made my heart stop.
"They're here! Alpha Theo is back!"
I should have run away. I should have hidden in my room or retreated to my attic studio to work on my designs. But my feet felt glued to the floor. The stupid part of me needed to see her. I needed to see the woman who was worth destroying our marriage for.
I walked to the top of the grand staircase and looked down into the foyer.
The heavy double doors swung open. First came the guards, looking proud. Then came Theo. He looked tired. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his jaw was tight. But the moment he stepped into the light of the chandelier, he put on a smile.
He turned and extended his hand, and a woman stepped out from behind him.
Claire.
I know her from the werewolf Academy, even though we didn't interact.
She was everything I wasn't. She was tall, with shoulders that looked strong enough to carry the weight of a pack. Her hair was a glossy blonde, and she wore a tailored red suit that screamed power. She didn't look down at the floor like I used to. She looked around the room like she already owned it.
Theo took her hand.
The sight of his fingers interlaced with hers felt like a knife twisting in my gut. But it was what happened next that truly broke me.
Claire whispered something to him, and Theo laughed. He leaned in, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. His touch looked so tender, so attentive.
The pack members gathered in the foyer broke into applause. Evelyn, Theo’s mother, rushed forward, beaming with a happiness I had never seen on her face.
"Welcome home, son! And Claire... oh, you are magnificent!" Evelyn gushed, ignoring me completely as she embraced the new arrival.
I stood frozen on the landing. In three years of marriage, Theo had never touched me like that in public. He was always professional, always distant. He protected me, yes, but he never showed me off.
Watching him with Claire, I realized the bitter truth. I wasn't just losing a contract. I was being replaced by someone he deemed worthy of his affection.
This wasn't a nightmare I could wake up from. This was real. He loved her.
I looked at his hand on Claire’s waist. It felt like I had swallowed a hot potato and I just wanted to cry because I was choking with emotions, but I couldn't show weakness.
I had twenty days.
I had twenty nights.
If he wanted to play the happy couple with her during the day, fine but I'm going to get what I want.
Before I leave, I want to have a child.
I wasn't even sure he was going to come to our home tonight, since he hasn't been. For ten days, he had stayed away, likely with Claire. But I still prepared myself, just as I have been doing for the last couple of days.
The reflection in the mirror was beautiful. The sexy spaghetti-strap nightgown made me look hot. Black lace hinted at my n*****s, the hem barely covering my full hips while revealing my long, straight legs. My hair carried the scent of perfume I'd never worn before.
I sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for Theo to return. The sky grew darker and darker until I heard footsteps outside the door.
But then silence.
Theo didn't push the door open to come in. Is he afraid to see me again? Or dreading the argument he thought we were about to have?
I couldn't handle the silence any longer, and I will never let him avoid me again.
I had twenty days left, and I wasn't wasting a single night.
I immediately opened the bedroom door. He stood in the dim hallway, his head bowed low. He looked like a man carrying the weight of the world, not a man who had just happily introduced his new fiancée.
"Theo," I said softly.
He flinched, his shoulders tensing. He slowly raised his head to face me, his eyes bloodshot, and his face was pale.
"Selena," he said, his voice rough. "I... I didn't want to wake you."
"I wasn't asleep," I replied, walking toward him, and then hugged him. "I was waiting for you. Why don't you come in?"
He looked at me, surprised. "Waiting for me?"
“I...” He froze, seemingly surprised that I was still willing to get close to him.
“Shh!” I stopped him from answering my question. I didn’t need an answer. “I miss you. Don’t you miss me? Even though our marriage is ending, that doesn’t mean we can’t have s*x. We're doing great, right?”
I didn't know if he would push me away. Because before that, I had taken his arm and led him back into the room.
The door closed slowly behind me. I watched him swallow hard at the sight of my sexy body with satisfaction. His eyes traveled down my body, widening in shock. He had never seen me wear something like this. I was usually modest, hiding my body in oversized shirts or long nightgowns. But tonight, I was bold and exposed.
"Selena?" he choked out. His gaze darkened, shifting from guilt to something much more primal. "What are you doing?"
"I’m tired of talking, Theo," I said, stepping closer to him until I was standing right in front of him. I reached out and placed my hands on his chest, feeling the rapid, thudding beat of his heart. "We only have twenty days left. I don't want to spend them fighting."
I ran my hands up his chest, pushing the dress shirt off his shoulders. His skin was hot, burning under my touch. Theo groaned, his hands clenching into fists at his sides as if he were fighting the urge to touch me. "Selena, this is... you shouldn't..."
I stepped closer, pressing my body flush against his. I felt his muscles tense. "You’ve been busy. But you’re home now. I really miss you."
I miss your... body, longing for it to give me a child.
I didn't wait for him to give me permission. I reached up and kissed him.
It wasn't a gentle kiss. It was hungry. It was possessive. I bit his lower lip, tasting him, demanding he respond. Theo groaned, a low sound of surrender in his throat. His hands, which had been hanging at his sides, flew to my waist. He gripped me hard, pulling me into him. The control he fought so hard to maintain shattered.
"You’re playing a dangerous game," he growled against my lips, his breath hot.
"I'm not playing," I pushed him backward onto the bed. Usually, Theo was the one who led. Theo was the one who set the pace. But tonight, I climbed over him, straddling his waist. I looked down at him with my hair falling all over my face.
He looked up at me with a mix of shock and need. He had never seen me like this, passionate, uninhibited, wild. The sight of me taking what I wanted seemed to drive him mad.
He looked up at me with a mix of shock and need. He had never seen me like this, passionate, uninhibited, wild. The sight of me taking what I wanted seemed to drive him mad.
"Selena," he choked out, his hands running up my thighs, his thumbs pressing into my skin.
"Don't talk," I commanded softly. "Just feel."
I moved against him, using every trick I knew, every instinct I had suppressed for years. I wanted him to be so lost in me that he forgot Claire’s name. I wanted to imprint myself onto his soul so deeply that even when I was gone, he would never be able to touch another woman without thinking of me.
But more than that... I needed a baby.
I managed to get him out of his trousers and straddled his c**k as he entered me, and we both moaned in pleasure.
As we moved together, the pleasure was intense, bordering on pain because Theo was rougher than usual, his desperation matching mine. He held my hips, thrusting into me with a force that made the headboard rattle.
Every time he touched me, I imagined a future where I wasn't alone. I imagined a child with his dark hair and my eyes.
He moved us until I was beneath him and he thrust in hard and fast, and I felt like I was seeing stars.
When the climax hit, it was explosive. Theo shouted my name, not Claire’s, but mine as he came inside me.
20 days until our contract expires.
I will have a baby, and when I do I'll set him free to marry whoever he wants.
