Chapter 1

1110 Words
Selena’s POV "Theo… please…" My gasped, her fingers curling into the sheets. My Alpha didn’t answer with words. Instead, he gripped my hip harder, pulling my flesh against him. His thrusts turned deeper, more punishing, and I cried out, my nails raking down his back. The world narrowed to the weight of him, the heat of his skin, the way he filled my completely. "I'm close… don't stop…" My voice broke as the tension coiled tighter in her belly. Theo groaned, burying his face in the curve of my neck as he drove into her one last time, claiming stroke that sent us both crashing over the edge. Scorching fluid surged inside me. Then, slowly, he lifted himself onto his elbows and looked down at me. His expression was unreadable, something flickering in his amber eyes that she couldn't quite name. He pulled back, rolling onto his side. The distance between us felt wider than the few inches of empty sheets. I turned her head to look at him. He was staring at the ceiling, jaw tight. "Theo…" I started, reaching for his arm. But Theo sat up with the sheet pooling at his waist, and his face, which had been open and tender just moments ago, was now blank. He pulled out a familiar packet. The sound of the foil popping was sharp and loud in the silence, and he turned to me, holding a small white pill in his palm. "Take this, Selena." His voice was calm, steady, like he didn't just break my heart yet again. I stared at the contraceptive pill. For three years, this had been our routine. He didn't want a child from a temporary contract. He didn't want an heir with an Omega. Yes, Selena was an Omega, the scholarship student. The orphan. 3 years ago, Theodore Kensington was the Golden Boy of the Academy. He was the future Alpha, handsome, wealthy, and always surrounded by a crowd of admirers. He walked through the hallways like a king. I used to watch Theo from behind the bookshelves. I memorized the way he laughed, the way he ran his hand through his hair when he was frustrated, and the way his eyes lit up when he talked about pack strategy. I had the biggest, most painful crush on him, but I never dared to say a word. To him, I was just a ghost in the background. We never spoke. We never touched. So, when he proposed a contract. A marriage of convenience for three years. He told me that he needed a wife to get his domineering father off his back. His father wanted to control who he married, to use him as a pawn. Marrying a "nobody" like me, 'an Omega with no political power' was Theo’s ultimate act of rebellion. It was his way of screaming that he was his own man. I knew he didn't love me then. I knew I was just a tool for his independence. But I looked at the man I had loved from afar for years, and I said yes. Perhaps time will change everything, I think. "No," I whispered. Theo froze. He looked at me, his brow furrowing. “What did you say?” "I said no." My heart was beating fast and I sat up, pulling the duvet up to cover my nakedness, and reached into my own nightstand drawer. I pulled out a manila folder and placed it on the mattress between us. "Look at the date, Theo," I said, and my voice was shaking. “There are only thirty days left. Our marriage expires in exactly one month. Shouldn't we do something?” Theo looked down at the papers, but he didn't touch them. He just stared, his jaw tightening. "I don't want to take the pill anymore," I continued, rushing to get the words out before I lost my courage. I reached out and covered his hand with mine. “I don't want to leave, Theo. I know we started this as a deal, but look at us now. Look at the life we’ve built. I’ve given up everything to be your Luna, and I would do it again. I love you, Theo. I’m ready to make this real. I want to give you an heir. I want to have your baby and stay here as your Luna, your real Luna.” The air in the room grew heavy and suffocating, and I searched his face, desperate for a sign. However, Theo stood up and began to walk around the room, gathering his clothes, and he wouldn't look at me. I was living through my worst nightmare because everything that I feared was coming through. "Take the pill," he commanded, his eyes fixed intently on the white pills, unwilling to look at me. “My father has chosen a new Luna for me, and I have agreed to it. Our marriage will end when the contract expires. Don't let things get out of control, Selena.” "What...?" I looked at him in shock and confusion. “Why... are you abandoning me?” I hoped for an answer, yet he remained silent. I looked at him, and something inside me died. The hope I’ve held onto ever since he proposed the deal, the dreams of a family, the love I had poured into this home, into us, it was all shattered. To him, I was still just a contract. A loose end to be tied up. My hand trembled violently as I reached out and took the small white tablet. It felt heavy, like a stone, and I looked at Theo one last time, hoping and begging, but his face was hard and cold. I placed the pill on my tongue and swallowed it dry. It tasted bitter, just like the lie I had been living for three years. "There," I whispered, my voice hollow. “Are you happy?” Theo didn't answer. He finished dressing in silence, grabbed his watch and his phone, and walked to the door, his hand pausing on the knob for a second. He looked like he wanted to say something, maybe an apology or maybe goodbye, but he swallowed the words. "The lawyers will have the papers ready by the end of the month." He said without turning around. The door clicked shut, leaving me alone in the freezing silence. I pulled my knees to my chest and buried my face in them, screaming into the darkness. 30 days. I had thirty days left in the house I made a home. Thirty days to watch the mate of my life prepare to marry another woman.
