I ran all the way back to my bedroom and I didn't look back, and I didn't stop to catch my breath or worry about the pain I was feeling
My lungs were burning like fire, and my scraped hands were stinging with pain.
When I finally reached the door of my guest room, I pushed myself inside and slammed it shut behind me.
I reached out with trembling fingers and turned the thick metal lock until I heard a loud, heavy click.
