Days after David Sibley"s departure to the battlefields of Europe, a meeting was called at the Sibley ranch concerning the immediate future of the Texas frontier west of Bexar County. Richard Sibley hosted the meeting along with his oldest son Jack as they sat with West Texas Railways Vice-President Jonathan Beam and Texas Governor James J. Ferguson"s deputy, Keith Glass. They had exchanged correspondence over a new development in the area and thought it best if they met in person to discuss the issue at length.
The Sibley ranch was a sprawling, immaculately kept property which sat upon 1,000 acres of land. The mansion itself was a two story colonial residence surrounded by barns, stables and corrals, orchards of a variety of fruits, gardens featuring different types of varicolored flower
