11 DESPITE THE COOL evening, Elena’s neck burned with anger as Jake made his way toward her across the expanse in front of the Sydney Opera House. “Perfect,” Gramps said. “Look, here’s someone you know. He can take it.” He motioned to Jake. There was no avoiding him. “Elena!” As Jake’s voice rang out, she wished she could dive into the ocean lapping around the peninsula on which the opera house was situated.
