As soon asBlack Peony left, I was asked to see Dwarf. He asked me directlyhow many times I had done it with Black Peony. I was dumb struckand gaped at him, but soon recovered. I flew into such a rage thatI shouted angrily at him, “You talk nonsense! I have not eventouched her hand! Don’t try to accuse an innocent person!”
“Are you an innocent person?” Dwarf asked.
“Yes, I am.”
“I don’t think you are! You are demoralized to theextreme…”
“I know who is demoralized,” I said, thinking of the scene ofDwarf and Elephant hugging and rolling on the meadow in the smallwood behind our school.
“Who is demoralized?” Dwarf asked, his face turningred.
“You! You are demoralized. I saw with my own eyes what you didwith Elephant!”
