Steph bounced his way to the center of the platform and waved me over. I was about to move to join him when my brother stopped me. I looked back at him, confused.
"What's wrong, Danny?"
"Umm..."
He looked unsure if he wanted to say something. He seemed concerned for me, which warmed my heart. I've never had a brother to worry for me, younger or not. I squeezed his hand that rested on my upper arm and gave him a reassuring smile.
"I'll be just fine, my big little brother. Thank you for worrying about me."
He smiled, then looked confused.
"Why are you thanking me for worrying about you? We're family."
I shrugged.
"My family is either dead or far away from me at the moment. Outside of my mom and my aunt and sister, no one else has ever shown me love or care like they have."
I tried with all my might to fight back the tears that wanted to fall so badly. They've been a great distraction, but nothing has been distracting enough. His smile fell from his face, but soon, it was replaced with a determined one.
"I'm your family now. We all are."
I nodded and turned away from him. I couldn't afford to deal with any more emotions right now. Logan's solemn face didn't go unnoticed either. I gave him a small smile as I walked passed him. Steph stood waiting, his face showing he's heard what was said and felt sadden by it. I fought through my momentary sadness and put on a brave face. I needed to focus on this sparring match if I wanted to face him. Steph looked me in the eyes and saw my determination and granted me what I needed most; a fight. He nodded his head at me. He allowed me a few moments to gather myself.
"Ready."
I spoke hardly above a whisper. I couldn't be weak right now, I wouldn't allow myself. I had to be strong. I knew if I let one tear fall, the flimsy walls that I built around myself would crumble and shatter. Steph nodded and stood guarded. I let everyone and everything fall away, my only target being Steph. I took a deep breath in, letting his dewy scent surround me. For whatever reason, his smell felt safe to me. Like I've known it before, yet haven't. His scent created an invisible line for me to follow, as if drawn to him. I didn't hesitate or questioned it, I just followed it. He came at me in a blur, and somehow, I was able to track him seamlessly. My eyes didn't even have to be used. I sensed him unlike anyone else I've ever met before. He threw jab after jab that I dipped and dodged. Left. Right. Left. Right. He swung his arm out tryna swipe at my neck. I caught it and dived below him, sweeping his feet from underneath him. Before he hit the ground, I kicked him again in the stomach, sending him tumbling backward. I heard cheers and applause from the stands that I tuned out. I got up quickly, following the invisible line that led me to him. I felt when his aura flourished outwardly. I felt it's heat and it became a beacon to me. I smiled wildly. He got up and charged at me, and I welcomed it. We went at it. Throwing and blocking each other's hits. I felt as if the faster he went, the faster I was becoming. Soon enough, his speed didn't feel like an advantage to him because I was keeping up flawlessly. I swung on him, he caught it, spinning me to put me in a choke hold. I held up my hand to keep his arm from tightening around my neck. I quickly elbowed him in his stomach, which caused his arm to slack. I did a split between his legs to get myself out of his grip. Then, I did what I like to call a breakdance move, spinning my legs around, sweeping his legs from under him again. As I he fell back, I stood up in a spin. He was down. I smiled at him as he and I breathed heavily.
"Wanna keep going?"
His eyes bulged.
"Are you kidding me? No! What are you, some terminator or something. It felt like you were anticipating my hits and blocking them. I've never fought anyone other than Commander Bruce, my dad and the Alpha, and sometimes Danny, who's given me such a hard time. What was that?!"
He was panting. He sounded serious but also looked excited, which seeped out and flowed in me. My smile widened.
"I don't know. Fighting you wasn't even as hard as fighting Elias."
I said truthfully. All the guys were cracking up.
"Ha!! And you called me weak, moron."
Elias shouted, causing another burst of laughter.
"HEEEYYY. What's the deal, Kwen??!"
He had a big smile on his face, and I laughed.
"Seriously, though. It was like I felt you for some odd reason. I've actually never felt that before. I didn't even need my eyes to see you. It doesn't feel like what I feel for my brother or dad. Although I just met them, I feel oddly connected to them as well, which is why their scent and aura calms me. But you... I feel a connection that I've never experienced before. I just followed that feeling, and it guided me."
I know I looked absolutely confused because my smile dropped, and I was in deep thought. I looked at the guys, and their faces mimicked mine.
"You felt it too? I thought I was going crazy when I was fighting you. I felt drawn to you, too. I've never gone back to back with blows like that with anyone. It kinda felt like a trance... one I didn't want to end."
Steph said, sounding just as bewildered as I was in the moment.
"Spar with Logan and Danny next. I want to see something."
We all snapped our heads behind us as we watched my dad and the other guys I've met before.
"I didn't even realize you guys were here already."
Danny said. Already? Were they supposed to come?
"Yes, we got here towards the end of their sparring match. It was spectacular. I've known about all of you guys' amazing skills, but seeing my daughter in action and being able to handle herself well was absolutely amazing. You did incredible, sweetheart."
I blushed deeply and lowered my eyes.
"Umm... th- thanks, d-dad."
I wanted to be swallowed up by a hole, just for a little while.
The other men and my dad all chuckled at me as I figet about.
"Why did you want her to spar with Logan and I, dad? What are you looking for?"
Danny asked.
"I just wanted to see if what she felt when sparring Stephen is something she can feel when sparring the rest of you. She didn't feel that "invisible line" with Elias. So let's see if she feels it with the rest of you."
I wasn't too sure what it was they were hoping to get out of this, but I didn't fight it. I was happy to fight Danny and Logan. Let's see how I'll do against these two. I smiled and looked over at them.
"Soooo... who's next?"
I wiggled my eyebrows up and down, giggling. I laughed even harder when, they both gave me hesitant looks.
