Big bad wolf

1965 Words
I zoned out watching my best friends practice their sword fighting in their human form with my gamma. For some reason, that little human girl always sneaks her way into my mind. She's unlike anyone other person, let alone woman, I've ever seen. Most people cower at the mere sight of me, yet she never bows. Most women clamor towards me. Granted, I'm 20, and she's 17, so maybe she's just not gonna entertain the impossible. For wolves, the age difference isn't as taboo, but for humans, I know it is. I mean... not that I was looking at her in any way. She's always too covered to tell what she really looks like underneath those clothes... not that I was thinking of looking. I rubbed a hand down my face and sighed. She confuses me. Kwen is a pretty girl, no doubt, and I've seen prettier girls before. Well, girls who were as pretty. I'm not sure a prettier girl exists. I should know. I've slept with some gorgeous women before. There's just something different about Kwen. She's human, but she has this air of authority about her. She's incredibly intelligent if her being 17 in medical school didn't already clear that up for anyone. But, she's not a "know- it- all." She's down to earth and funny. She doesn't take herself too seriously, and she's quick with the quips. Kwen also has the most amazing green eyes. I've never seen eyes as green as hers, and they mesh well against her dark skin. She always wore her glasses, but I looked forward to the times she removed them so I could see those green orbs clearer. I shook my head tryna clear my head of thoughts of her. The next thing I knew, I heard a chuckle sound off in front of me. "Who you been thinking about... again?" I rolled my eyes at my best friend. "Will you mind your business for once?" I gruffed out. "Your mind is my business. Or did you forget. I am your beta, after all." "Yea, don't remind me." I said with a bored look. "Yo, Royce! Who yall talking about?" My other best friend and gamma said, walking over, sheathing his sword. Royce smiled evilly at me, and I narrowed my eyes at him. "Don't even think about it, Roy." "Whaaatt? Meee? Think about what? Oh! Do you mean the fact that a girl caught the attention of the infamously unaffectionate wolf prince?" Roy said dramatically while James sat with his mouth open. I grumbled in annoyance. "I'm not unaffectionate." Roy snickered. "We not referring to familiar bonds. You are not nice to anyone women if they're not a part of your family or in an authoritative position." He said smugly. "Wait. Wait. Wait. Who's the girl?" "Well, James. Since you so kindly asked. Kwenali or Kwen, as she likes to go by, is the young, beautiful human girl who has captured the big bad wolf's attention. The best part is, she doesn't even realize it." Roy started laughing. All I could do was look at him. James gave me a questioning look. I took a deep breath. "It's nothing like that. Besides, she's too young." "She'll be 18 in a 7 months." "Will you shut the hell up, Roy!" Roy lifted his hands in surrender, smiling, looking away. "Anyway. It's nothing like that. She doesn't seem the least bit interested in me, and again, she's too young." "Dude, you just turned 20. That means she'll be 18 in a few. That's only a 3-year difference." "Yea, well, she's human as well. Gaps like that aren't favorable." "So you are interested in this girl?" James asked. I stopped and looked at him. "I-I... no... I don't think so? I don't know, man. She's just nice to be around. She's doesn't know who I am. She's not tryna bang me, nor is she tryna use me for some status of some kind. She just sees me. She makes fun of me and talks to me regularly. She doesn't allow me to walk over her, and she stands up for herself. Kwen is a breath of fresh air." I said, wistfully. Roy began chuckling beside me, and I glared at him "Yea... and she's purdy, too. Isn't she?" Roy said in a terrible southern accent. I jumped at him, and he screamed dramatically, tossing himself behind James. James snickered, shaking his head at us. I rolled my eyes for the 100th time at Roy and took a seat. "Well... the dumbass isn't wrong. Kwen's very beautiful. I don't know if I actually like her or not. Even if I did, it wouldn't make a difference. She's human. She wouldn't survive our world." I spoke seldomly. Saying what I have always thought out loud was harder for me to digest than I thought. I also didn't realize how not being able to have her would affect me until just now. "Damn, Sei. I'm sorry about that. Wow. The one person who actually caught your eye is human and younger than you. Maybe if she was a wolf, she'd at least know who you are, and the age thing wouldn't be a problem." I shook my head at James. "No. I like her how she is now. It's because she's not a wolf that she's been able to treat me like a regular person. Aside from my family and you guys, I don't get that often, and I don't plan on losing it." They both nodded in understanding. "Well, if she's really that important to you, just stay friends with her. Even if it's hard now, I'm sure having her in some capacity in your life is better than a life without her." Royce said as he shrugged his shoulders. It's moments like this that I remember why he's one of my best friends and my beta. I nodded my head and stood. I looked down at my watch. It was going on 6:30 am. I looked up at my guys. "Alright. Let's get cleaned up. We gotta head back towards my apartment. Then I gotta head to campus. Kwen and I are supposed to study and get some work done before class today." I saw when Roy smirked and gave me that knowing look. I narrowed my eyes at him. "I swear if you say something, I'm breaking something on you." He shrieked and took off running. James laughed at us as I shook my head. How the hell did I get stuck with a child as a beta? ... I finally made it to campus around 8:50am. Royce and James came down from our pack to train with me for a good week before heading back off. Barrett, our current pack's commander, hates for me to go long periods of time without a proper training partner. So, a week every month, the guys come over here, stay, and train with me. They still do their classes while here. It's easier for them because they go to school at our university. They understand our way and make accommodations for them. Since I go to a human university, by choice, It'll be harder for me to get away. I headed straight to the library. As usual, there are many eyes on me. Men who try to size me up and women who look as if they want to bite me. I won't say I don't enjoy the pleasures of life, but I know none of them actually likes me. I find a seat at a table big enough for her and I, and I wait. When 9am came, she hadn't shown. It wasn't like her to be late. I started on my work without her. By 9:15, she still hadn't shown up. I began to get annoyed. If she wasn't coming, why didn't she say something? People started asking if they could take the seat opposite of me. I've had to say no more than once. I looked at my watch again and it's already 9:30. I go to pull out my phone when the scent that I've been craving to smell, unknowingly, appeared. I heard her giggle behind me before she appeared, rounded the table, and sat down. I had to keep my cool and calm my nerves. I frowned at her and folded my arms over my chest. Her big, bright smile illuminated the already bright room. She wore a dark yellow headwrap that complimented her skin tone and her green eyes. She wore a big black graphic hoodie with some anime characters on it. I was never that into anime, but Royce was. She had on black leggings and white sneakers. In her hand, she had a bag that smelled as if it had food and a cup tray with drinks. She wore her huge bookbag on one shoulder, then let it slide down to her folded elbow. She looked at me, and I had to fight to keep my frown. "Aww... what's the matter?" I grunted at her in response. "You 'know' what. You're late." She giggled some more as she took her seat. "Yea, yea. I know. I had to do something." I frowned. "What did you have to do?" "And I should tell you because?" "Because I said to tell me." "And I care??" My frown deepened, and she just laughed softly. "Do I ask who you be with? No. Why? Because it's none of my business, sir." She started setting her things up and taking out her laptop. I was pissed. Why won't she tell me who she was with. "Who was he?" "Excuse me?" "You heard me, Kwen? Who was he? The guy you refused to tell me about." My voice got rougher by the second. My aura began to seep out. She raised a brow after she took in a deep breath. "First of all, you need to calm down. Secondly, no one said it was a man. Since you just have to know, I took my sister to school, which is in the whole other direction. Along with traffic, and with the fact that I needed to stop and get me breakfast, I was late getting here. Imma need you to stop assuming everyone out here spreading themselves thin simply because you be laying with everything that moves and has tits." She folded her hands on top of her laptop and said all of that in a loud whisper. Kwen stared me right in the eyes, never looking away. Regardless of my aura or the fact that I was twice her size, damn near, she never shrinks or back down. After hearing she was late because of her sister, I did let up on my aura and unfolded my arms. She smirked and leaned back into her chair. "Now! If you're done pouting, you'd would've been told sooner that I got your favorite muffin and a cookie, AND your specialty made coffee." Kwen sai, beaming her smile. I chuckled as she handed me my items. "Is this a bribe?" "Yes." I chuckled harder. "You're not even gonna hide that fact from me. "No." She's so matter- of- factt, that it's hilarious. "I already knew you was gonna pout and be grumpy. So I brought a peace offering. I hope you like it." I snorted something like a laug, and I nodded. We started working on some material as we sip and ate our food. I still can't get over how smart she is. I thought I was doing something getting into medical school early. Kwen has literally knocked me down a peg. Just as thing we're going well, a gnat that I just couldn't get rid of came walking into our space. "Hey baby! I was looking for you."
