I knew it... bs

1499 Words
It's been two weeks since I woke up. Apparently, no one but close family, friends, and Dr. Mason and certain nurses are allowed to know I'm awake. I healed all at once the night I was attacked, and if people knew, I'd get hounded by them. Wolves don't heal at the rate I did, so there would be questions no one would be able to answer. My brother, grandparents, and friends have all come and checked in on me. They've been trying to keep me from being bored outta my mind, which I appreciate. I've been playing card and board games to pass the time. My body started to fill stiff, so I've been doing warm-ups, stretches, and the basics stances and forms from my martial arts studies. It's helped to keep me loose and to not feel so... bleh. I took a look at my hair the other day and was really sad to see how destroyed it was. I had my grandma come and trim it to even it out and ask if she could bring me my hair products from my room. My hair, which was once mid-back when straight, was at the base of my neck, and when it curls, it's even shorter. It's ok, though. My momma taught me how to take care of my hair, and my auntie can also help me. Lately, Kyle has been my only guard, and I've finally got up enough courage to ask why Brody hasn't come to see me. He said Brody felt as if he was unworthy to be in my presence after failing to protect me. My heart collapsed in my chest, hearing that. I told Kyle to drag Brody's big butt here, kicking and screaming if necessary. He's my friend, and I don't blame him at all for what happened to me. I've been worried sick about him. I'm leaving the hospital later on tonight, thankfully. It's been almost a month, we'll, about three weeks, but I'm anxious to get up outta here. There's a meeting tonight with my dad and family to discuss "me" and what that entails going forward. I don't know why, but I feel tonight is gonna be on some bs. ... I freaking knew it... BS. After being released from my room in the medical center, Kyle escorted me to my room in the packhouse. I dropped my things off there and was escorted to my dad's office. I don't know if it said it before, but his office is huge! He sat in his chair behind his desk as Lisa sat on a corner of the desk. My grandparents were to my left, sitting on the couch hugged up along with my brother and sister. On my right, Beta Luke stood, leaning against the wall closes to the double doors that led to the office's balcony. Gamma Jake sat in the chair closet to Lisa, and Commander Bruce sat in the other chair. Lowkey, it felt like an intervention, and I was the problem. Kyle stood guard at the door inside the room while I stood in the middle of everyone as they all looked at me. "Uhhh, so we gonna talk, or is everyone gonna stare at me?" I said with a nervous laughter, shifting on my feet. "That's what I was thinking." My grandma said, looking over at my father. "We're waiting on Ava," Lisa said. "Ava? Why? She's not family." My grandma commented harshly. Lisa stood and wrapped her arms around my dad, who was eerily quiet this whole time. He didn't seem to have that same light I was used to seeing. "Ava is like family to us. So she should be here." Lisa said, smiling as she kissed my dad's cheek. I wanted to gag. I looked away from them with my nose turned up, causing Danny to chuckle. "Mind you manners, girl. Although I'm not sure if you had any to begin with." Lisa said dryly. I looked at her like she was crazy then at my dad, who didn't seem fazed by what she said at all. I frowned, looking up at her again, to see a snide smirk on her face. I raised a brow at her, confused as to what she had going on. I ignored her and began to think who this "Ava" person was and why did that name sound so familiar? "Ahh, there you are. We were waiting for you." Lisa said, looking passed me. "Sorry I'm late. I got caught up in something." My body began to tingle as if it recognized the voice. The woman came further into the room. My eyes widened as she stood next to my dad and Lisa. She smiled and waved at Danny and Sierra. She looked my way, smiling, and nodded at me. I subconsciously took a step back. I completely forgot about her. I saw her just before being snatched away. I remembered something very important. This woman she smelled of... "Nothing." I whispered out. "Kwen? What's wrong, honey?" I heard my grandma ask me. I took another step back and bumped into a body. I turned to see Brody watching Ava with an intense gaze. I gasped, looking at him. "Brody!!" I shouted, throwing my arms around his waste the best I could. He patted my back. "Hey Kwen. It's nice to see you again." He smiled down at me. The tears that threatened to fall, he wiped away as he smiled at me. "I'm so mad at you, man." My voice cracked as I spoke to him. He chuckled lightly. "I know, and we can talk about that later. Your family is waiting." He nudged his head in the direction of everyone else. I nodded and turned back around, but I grabbed his hand, not wanting him to go far. He squeezed my hand and stood beside me. I looked back and asked for Kyle as well, and he came and held my hand. I smiled up at both of them and then set my sight on the one called Ava. "Why are you here?" I asked, point blank to Ava. She smiled. "Because I was asked to be, Kwen." I winced at her speaking my name. Brody and Kyle tighten their grip on me in response. "She's here to help keep you safe. You should be a little more courteous." Lisa said with an attitude. "Courteous? I met her once before. My body recated the same way then as it is now, and it's telling me to run, which I tried doing." "Wait, what? You've met her already? When?" My grandpa chimed in. "The day I was kidnapped. Brody went to get me something to drink, and she came outta nowhere." Eveyone looked to Ava. "You've never said you met my granddaughter? Why haven't you said anything?" Grandma said, standing up. "I didn't think it was necessary. I met her briefly at the ball. You know I live at the border and she was close underneath the tree, so I said hi." I let go of the guy's hands and stepped closer, taking in a deep breath. "My sense of smell is incredible. That night, I couldn't smell you at all. You snuck up on me, and no one can do that. You smelled of nothing... as you do right now." Eveyone looked at me in shock and then back to Ava. I could see her smile fade some at my assessment. "I don't know what you mean. I'm sure I have a scent." "I'm sure you do, but I can't smell it, and I smell everything." I said that last part, glancing at Lisa. She saw it, and I could tell she was unease by it. Ava, on the other hand, nodded at me and then smiled. "Eveyone else can get a scent from me, right?" They all began to sniff the air, and they all silently nodded. "Dont make up things about people. She's here to help your ungrateful self. You should be honored." Lisa said as confidence re- entered her. My eyes cut towards her. "I'm not crazy and I've never been a liar. You all know my sense of smell differs from the rest of you. Also, don't let that little nap I took make you forget what I said about respect. Nothing changes in that aspect... or do you need a reminder?" Lisa's eyes widen. I looked back at Sierra to see if she wanted to try me again as well, and she jumped in her seat, looking away. Brody grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back. Ava watched the whole encounter with interest. I don't know why only I can smell that she has no scent at all or why Lisa and Sierra smell terrible... hold up. They don't stink. I looked between Sierra and Lisa, confused. Before I could ask a question, Ava interrupted me. "Now, let's get back to why we're here. Brandon, you should start."
