My dad finally sat up, ready to speak for the first time. I didn't miss the order Ava gave him or the fact that he followed it. Something is seriously wrong, and I don't like it one bit.
"Kwen, you will be going to stay with your aunt."
My jaw dropped.
What the hell just happened?!!
"WHAT!"
"EXCUSE ME!"
A chorus of people blurted out what I wanted to say but couldn't. My brother and pretty much everyone that wasn't already standing stood. My dad held up a hand before the onslaught of comments commenced.
"She's about to start college, and her school is too far away to constantly travel. So staying with her aunt is best."
When I tell you I was utterly speechless. How could he just say something like this with a straight face.
"Also, after what just happened to you, you'd be safer amongst other humans."
"ARE YOU INSANE!!! WE JUST GOT HER AND NOW YOU WANNA SEND HER AWAY! What's wrong with you?"
Grandma shouted at dad, furious at what she had just heard. My dad slammed his fist on the table.
"SHE'S MY DAUGHTER AND I WILL DO WITH HER AS I PLEASE."
"YOU WILL NOT TALK TO YOUR MOTHER LIKE THAT. CALM DOWN, BOY!"
My grandpa stood in defense of his mate.
"Now. This is all sudden. Since you found out about Kwen, all you've ever wanted was for her to be with you. Now, all of a sudden, you expect us to agree with sending her away? You gave no time frame, only that her school is there. What if she chooses never to come back? What, then?"
I watched as my dad's whole demeanor changed at the mentioning of me never returning. It seemed as if he was fighting with himself. I'm so confused. Why would he want this.
"If my sister goes, I go."
Danny said, his face stone cold.
"What!! You can't go!"
Lisa yelled in shock.
"This is for her protection and her education. You will do no such thing."
"What do you mean? Dad wants to send her away. Literally, away from all the people who could potentially protect her. Yet you think that's a good idea. She was here and still got hurt. Who knows what could happen? So, it'll be better if I went with her for protection."
I turned to him, and he looked at me. Danny got up and gave me a tight hug. He pulled back and wiped the tears I didn't know fell.
"You'd really go with her, Danny? What about me? I'm your sister too."
Danny looked back at her and smiled.
"I love you too, Sierra, but Kwen needs our support. You had me for 10 years, almost 11. She's only had me for 2 weeks, and the other 3, she spent either in a coma or trapped in a room. You understand, right."
He said, walking up to her, reaching out to touch her face. Sierra's face turned up as tears rolled down her cheeks, slapping his hand away, jumping up.
"EVER SINCE SHE GOT HERE, ITS BEEN ABOUT KWEN THIS AND KWEN THAT! SHE'S NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTER AND SHE'S NOT YOUR ONLY DAUGHTER OR YOUR ONLY SISTER!!"
Sierra shouted before running out.
"Wait!"
Danny yelled after her.
"I told you she'd cause all sorts of problems, now my SiSi is upset."
"Oh, shut up! She only feels that way because you drilled into her head that Kwen's not family."
Grandma and Lisa said back and forth.
I looked around the room, and everyone seemed to be in conversation. My dad was seated with his head in his hands, rubbing his temples. All the noise was beginning to get to me. The tears that fell never stopped, but I was already tired of this whole situation.
"ENOUGH!"
I shouted over everyone. They all looked at me in suprise. I looked at Danny.
"You will not come with me."
"Yes, I will."
"No, you will not. You are needed here. You are important here. It's clear that my presence alone has stirred things up."
"Kwen."
I held my hand up to stop Danny. I gave him a teary smile.
"Thank you for being my brother. I'm so happy that I have you in my life, Danny. But, you have a life here... my life... it seems it doesn't want to co-exist with wolves. So I will go."
My grandparents and Danny all tried to talk me out of it, but I refused to stay at a place where I'm not welcomed.
"Brandon... come on, man! Are you really gonna do this?"
Luke asked with a face that looked shocked and appalled. My dad looked up at him, then over to me.
"Well... dad? Am I going or staying?"
I looked at him, and I could see a pain look on his face. It looked as if he was pressing deeper and deeper into his temples to relieve pressure. When it looked as if he was about to break, Lisa jumped in.
"All this is getting to him."
She said as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held him. She looked up at everyone then to me.
"How bout this? You only stay with us on holidays, and breaks from school. But when the semester starts, you are to stay with your aunt. If it's about her protection, then we need to separate her from you, honey."
She said, looking down at my dad.
"She can't spend time around the boys in public or us. All family functions or affairs, only Daniel and Sierra can attend and be present amongst family. Also, it's your hair that makes you a target. If that's the case, you should keep it covered at all times. If you plan on staying here, those are the rules."
Lisa finished, smiling from ear to ear, as she continued to comfort my dad. He looked up at her and nodded, then looked to me.
"If you wish to stay here during those times, those are the stipulations."
"Dad!"
"Brandon!"
"Alpha?!"
Everyone spoke all at once. I couldn't believe it. After everything that has happened, I thought we've gotten closer... maybe I was wrong. My tears never stopped, but I no longer felt them. I felt numb to everything. I looked my dad in the eyes, and in them, I saw nothing but coldness. The warmth that used to glow from them was no longer present. I looked over to see Lisa smirking and Ava looking on with a watchful gaze. I don't know how yet, but I know one, if not, both had something to do with this. I turned and began to slowly go to the door. Following behind me was Kyle and Brody. The moment the door closed, my knees gave out, and I was on my way down, but Brody caught me and carried me to my room. I sobbed into his shoulder the whole way their.
