After dinner, we all headed back to my apartment. Everyone will stay over, and in the morning, my parents and sister will head out to go back home. Royce and James will leave Sunday morning.
"What a lovely girl. She seems so sweet. It's a shame what's happened to her and her family."
My mom said, sadly.
"But, it seems her mama raised a strong one."
My father chimed in, kissing my mother's forehead. I used to get so grossed out by their affection growing up. Now, I find myself wanting that, too.
"You're right about that, alpha. I wonder who her father is. He should be unbelievably proud of Kwen. From what I heard tonight, she seems like the perfect student and an amazing daughter."
James said. Royce began to chuckle.
"Yea... and she would make a beautiful mate. Don't you agree, Cersai?"
I cut my eyes to him as he and everyone else laughed.
"Don't be an i***t, Roy. It would never work. She's a human. I doubt our people would accept her."
"Oh, who cares?! If they learned half of what we know about her, no one would be able to say that she wouldn't be perfect for you."
Kera said, dropping on the sofa.
"I mean, come on. Who the heck earns 3 black belts by the age of 10 and learns at least 2 more? "
Royce said, still wearing the shock expression he had earlier when he heard it the first time. To be honest, I was surprised by that bit of information as well. She doesn't look like a fighter at first glance.
"Yeah. I was surprised by that as well. It's crazy, right?"
James commented.
"Ehhh, it's not that unheard of. Mar and I have seen our fair share of surprisingly strong beings of all species in our lifetime. Being wolves, we can forget we aren't the only powerful people."
Mom said, as she wrapped herself around my dad. He nodded in agreement.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she gave you all a run for your money."
Us guys all snorted at my dad's words. He smirked.
"You laugh, but being too arrogant has put many a wolf down by a being seemingly weaker than them."
He continued.
"I would love to see her in action. She's a sweetheart with a vate of acid waiting to be poured on someone. That girl's a spitfire."
Kera said gleefully. I chuckled.
"Listen, I'm not saying she's weak. But do you really think she could go up against any of us?"
"I wouldn't be too sure about that if I were you."
Mom said, giving me a skeptical look. I frowned.
"Why's that."
"Earlier, when we saw the both of you in the library, Kwen shook my hand and... I don't know how to describe it, but she felt different. I think she felt how different I felt as well."
Mom said, thoughtfully. She looked as if she was in deep thought. My dad looked down at her.
"So you felt that too?"
"Felt what?"
I asked my dad. He finally looked up at me.
"Kwen. She's human, but she feels different. I can't quite put my finger on it. But, she feels oddly powerful."
Dad said.
"Well, her aura is quite strong. I've never seen a human's aura that blue before."
Kera spoke up. She, too, seemed to be in deep thought.
"Really, Key? Is her aura that different from other humans?"
James questioned.
"Uhh, yeah. I mean. She's human. We all know that. But from seeing her aura, it feels like their could be more to her than that. I'm not sure what, I just know there is."
I was definitely intrigued. My parents are known for being able to spot very special and strong beings, and Kera has the gift of seeing another person's aura. She's been able to do it since she was 3 or 4. Who knows, maybe even at birth. I, on the other hand, can usually detect deception. Most alphas can determine a truth from a lie, but I can pinpoint exactly what's a lie and what's not. When you lie, your breath patterns change ever so slightly, and your heartbeat becomes, for a second, offbeat. I don't know why, but my hearing is extraordinary good. So I notice these things immediately.
"Well, if everyone's so fascinated with her, why don't you guys invite her to a training session. You don't have to go all out, and of course, no weapons, but you could at least see if there's any truth to our theory. Regardless of what you may find, she'd still be Kwen."
My dad said. He began to chuckled, which unnerved me.
"Maybe she's an undercover wolf and doesn't know it yet. If she was, your mother and I could rest easy knowing we'd at least get some grandpups from at least one of you."
Dad said mockingly. My sister and I both groaned as Roy and James laughed.
"Don't laugh, you two. Your parents are counting the days until you both have pups of your own. Where the hell are y'alls mates."
Mom said, cracking her and my dad up. Roy and James immediately stopped laughing, which caused Kera and I to laugh at them. Everyone said their goodnights and made their way to their respective places for sleep. I headed to my room, showered, and laid in bed. The things everyone said tonight swirled around my head. I grabbed my phone of the table next to my bed and pulled up Kwen's number. It was pretty late already, and both she and I have lab tomorrow, but I figured I'd give it a shot.
Phone messages:
Me: You up?
I laid the phone down on my chest and waited. It was a good 5 minutes before I received a reply.
Kwen: Hey, yeah. You good?
I smiled. She's always quick to ask me if I'm ok.
Me: Yeah. I hope my family didn't bother you too much tonight. They can be a little nosey.
Kwen: Hahaha. It's ok. I actually really like your family. You think they're bad. You should meet my auntie and sis. By the end of the night, they would've had your birth certificate, social security, and bank statements. Hell, they would've told you how many followers you have on social media, lol.
I snickered.
Me: Lol. I guess we have something in common. Nosey ass family members.
Kwen: No kidding. Was there something you wanted, or were you being nice for once in your life and checking in on me?
Me: HA. HA. This why I'm not nice to people now.
Kwen: Aht aht! Don't blame me for your lack of social skills.
I chuckled. She's the only person outside of my family and Royce and James to speak to me like this.
Me: Yeah, yeah, whatever. Anyway, I wanted to know if you wanted to train with me and the guys Saturday? After learning you're so highly trained, the guys and I want to see you in action.
Kwen: Sure! I'd love that. Let me know when and where and I'll be there!
Me: OK. Cool.
Kwen: OK. Imma go to bed now. See you in class tomorrow. Don't forget your notes, man. We got labs in the A.M. Goodnight.
Me: Night.
End of messages.
I put my phone down. I had a smile on my face that I couldn't get rid of. I just loved how easy it was to talk to her. It's not about duties or lusty women messaging me late at night, looking for me to put an end to their cravings... though I like those messages too. With Kwen, I feel normal. Normal can be nice sometimes. With that, I turned over and went to sleep.
