Chapter 2: Trust

1085 Words
Alicia   I started remembering the complete map of my house. All these years, I have been here, I have roamed these corridors. I know every corner better than anyone else.    I started thinking about the way out. One is the main door, and there is another way through the basement. The basement is somewhere I have only gone once. I was… I was beaten badly because they thought I wanted to run away. But in reality, I went there by mistake- out of boredom. Well, I didn’t find the gate, but because they told me that I was supposedly running away, it definitely means there is a way out there.   I took a deep breath and opened the door of my room. Jake was still there.   “Aly...”   “I am running away,” I told him the truth. Come on, I don’t hate him, it is not his fault. “I love you, Jake”   He smiled sadly and hugged me.  “I knew it! You can never make the wrong decision. I wish you luck, sis. I love you too”   I smiled at him and hugged him back.   “Bye… Jake” “Bye Alicia. Take care. I hope we… we meet again. I hope this society dies. I hope this all ends”   I smiled one last time at him. “I have something that’d help you…” he gave me a map. “This is the map of the entire society. This will help you get out”   I thanked him wholeheartedly. This is gonna help me so much.  “You need to avoid this,” he pointed towards a big building on the map. “This is the headquarters”   I nodded. “And this… don’t ever go there” I read the caption, it was The Girl’s Mandatory Classes.   “I understand,” I said. “I am going now…” He kissed my forehead. He rarely, and by that, I mean really rarely does that. “Bye sis” “Bye Jake”   I made my way towards the basement.    I call him Jake, but he is 4 years older than me. Of course, my parents want me to call him brother at least, but we are close enough… I know, close doesn’t mean that I can call him by his name, but, it is just, he likes that.   I checked the surroundings. Dad must not be at home right now, and mom is in the kitchen at all times. I made sure she is in the kitchen and then went right down in the basement.   The surroundings were a little different from what I had seen that day. They were still grey, but more… haunted. I don’t know what happens down here, what this basement is for because it is completely empty.   I looked here and there and it seems that this place is taken care of greatly. It has no spider webs, no dust, nothing. It was even cleaner than the house. I made my way fast to other corners of the basement, to look for any way out. I should have asked Jake!   I took out the map, but it was not so detailed. Our society is really big… so all I can see on this big map is only houses and roads.   I sighed and kept searching. Soon, I reached the door. I smiled widely.  I took another deep breath and opened the door. I climbed the stairs. Luckily, it was the way out.    The outer world was completely silent. There was no one anywhere. But I could see the sun, and the trees… it was out.   As I took two steps forward, someone touched my hand. My heartbeat raced to the top. I was about to scream when the hand closed my mouth and shushed me. The shush was not sounding dangerous or demanding, but a quiet and cute one.   I finally gathered the courage to look at the person. As expected, it was a boy. He was handsome, right, and looked cute.   “Hey,” his voice was beautiful. “Are you escaping?”   And that cuteness and handsomeness shattered in pieces. He is here to stop me, isn’t he? Now he will dump me in the Girls’ Mandatory Classes. And I will die. Why God, why?   “P-Please don’t--” “Shh, princess. Did I say anything?”   I looked at him shocked. No one ever called me ‘princess’.   “Then?” I questioned him. I have never talked to any boy other than Jake, but he looked like he was no danger and had good intentions.   “I wanna escape too, my queen,” he whispered softly. “This world is cruel”   “But…” I couldn’t understand why any boy would want to escape this. “But isn’t this world good to boys?”   “Not all boys like this, princess,” he took a small step towards me. “We don’t like treating girls like that. But no one is brave enough to escape because the rulers are cruel”   “Oh…” I looked down. Him calling me names is so… awkward. “Um, my name is Alicia”   “Great to know you, Alice”   I smiled at him. I think, not all boys are bad, not all boys are the same.   “So…” I looked at him with the smile still evident. “Now…?” He smiled and kept a hand on my face. No one, of course, no one has touched me like that. His touch was warm and so… secure. “Now we run”   “Huh--”   He grabbed my forearm and started running. I ran too and after a while, we were inside a cave-like structure.   “Where are we…?” “This is a safe spot. Look, I have been planning my escape for a while, so I have three spots like these. Alright?”   “Okay…”   “Alicia,” I looked at him. “Do you trust me?”   What is a trust? I trust him… if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have run with him. “Yes,” I finally said.
