CHAPTER FOURTEEN

1157 Words
Aria's POV "You have?" My eyes lit up with hope as I looked up to Lila, waiting for her reply. "I met him while I was briefly at the rogues' custody before the lycan came to save me," she explained. "He has been there for that long?" I muttered under my breath. "You saw him?" She asked. I nodded. "You were taken by the rogues again?" She yelled and I quickly clamped my palms over her mouth from screaming. Her eyes widened in horror as she realised the message I was trying to pass across with my eyes. It wasn't after I was sure that she wasn't going to scream that I realised my grip on her. "You were taken by the rogues, not once but twice," she said as a matter of fact in a whisper. "He saved me and his sister got in trouble," I said to her. " I don't know how to help." "Ask the Lycan." I shook my head. I might have been back at Eldrid, but I had realised my lessons. I am not going to be at the mercy of Kael. "Are you still pissed he banished you? Well, he barged into the omegas room, ransacking it for evidence. I even heard he kept calling them in the night to interrogate them." Well, that revelation, however thoughtful it was, wasn't going to make me change my mind about him. "He still sent me away without listening to my plea." I insisted. ** It took the sun seeping through the curtains before I could wake up. My whole body felt weak and tired. The effect of the fight was telling on my body and this was all due to the quietness of my wolf. I need to get her out. Reluctantly, I managed to pull myself away from the bed when Lila walked into my room. "I heard you have been summoned by the elders but the lycan dismissed them," she announced. "Oh—" I let out, unsure of what to say further. I had completely forgotten about the meeting with the elders. I ran to the bathroom to wash myself and draped a cloth over my head while I hurried to the conference room. Just outside my door, my body collided with a huge frame. Upon looking up, I saw Kael. "Where are you rushing to?" He asked. "The meeting." "It's been shifted until there is solid evidence to back up your innocence." I kept quiet and he did too. After a second, I broke the silence. "So, I just wait around while people look at me suspiciously until someone comes to confess to the act?" I could feel his jaw tightening. I noticed he does this when he is trying to restrain himself from getting angry. "I am still on it and I have some questions for you as well," he said, stretching his hand forward to indicate we walk. We turned away from my quarters and the packed building until we were out of earshot. He looked around quickly before he spoke. "What happened that day?" "Hmm, Lila said you instructed me to cook in the kitchen," I started. Seeing as he didn't attempt to deny it, I felt a pang in my throat. I wasn't surprised, but a part of me had hoped maybe Lila used his name that day. So I continued, " I went to the kitchen, met the omegas cooking, and they didn't allow me to cook; I just stood there helping with keeping the fire stable. When they were done, I served the food single-handedly. Then afterwards, I was dragged out of my room while trying to...." "You didn't cook?" He interrupted me. "The poison couldn't have had that much effect if it wasn't present while it was being cooked," he stated. "The omegas all said you cooked," he added. "Well, I didn't," I said, firmly. "Are you okay?" He asked. I decided to ask the question that had been weighing on my mind since last night. "How did you know where I was and how did you save me just in time?" I asked. Just as he opened his mouth to reply, I quickly added. " And don't say you had been looking for me all this while." "I felt you were in danger." "What?" My eyes opened wide. Except for siblings and mates, no two wolves ever felt themselves while in trouble. It was a bond link that existed amongst wolves, so how? "I was surprised myself but yes, I felt you were in danger," he said again. "If you had said something else I might have believed," I scoffed. "Why is it hard to believe?" "That we might have a bond link? Yes," I replied as I looked away from his eyes that were starting to burrow into mine. "What if...." He started and I cut him off. "I overhead Ryder discussing with Vega before he attacked me that night. It seems like you have a traitor in your court." Before he could respond, we got interrupted by Thane, who walked up to us and whispered something in Kael's ear. All along, he pretended like I wasn't present. "We will talk later," Kael said before he followed Thane. As I walked back to my room, I couldn't help but drift back to what Kael was trying to say. His mate. Not after what Ryder had done to me. And not until I get answers to most of the questions pondering my mind. I decided against going to the room and headed for the library when a beautiful young lady welcomed me as I entered. "Where is the librarian?" I asked. "There?" She pointed to a space and when I looked back at her. I was startled by the presence of the old man I had meant before. I could feel goosebumps on my skin. "Are you a priest?" I asked. He smiled. "You can say that." "Have you ever seen a couple who perhaps looks like me in Eldrid?" I asked. Instead, he walks towards me and whispers, "There are some things left, not knowing," before he walks away. Not backing down, I started going through the books in the library. Anything that could give me answers to the many questions plaguing my mind. My eyes got weary as I looked outside and saw that it was dark, I closed the book I was reading and planned to retire to my room when I looked up to see Kael standing a few miles away from me. "Have you found the criminal?" I asked. Instead, he walked towards me, and I noticed there was something different about him. "There you are, mate," he growled. His wolf. I have heard stories about how dangerous and ruthless Lycan mates can be. And here I was alone in the library with him. I swallowed the hard lump that had formed in my throat.
