Aria’s pov
“The visitor has accustomed herself to the house,” Lyra sneered, her voice dripping in mockery
Thane stood up and held his hand up. “It’s not what you think.”
“I never thought of anything,” I said as I looked confused, unsure of whether to go back or stay in the library.
Lyra backed away from the wall and took a careful stride towards me. “If we were up to something, we would do it in places aside from the library,” she said.
“Why was the main door locked then?” I asked, before realising I had slipped.
Lyra c****d her head to the side and let out a smirk, “ such loud mouth for a runaway rogue.”
“I am not a rogue,” I replied, immediately.
The word rogue has traumatised me so much that I hate to be linked with it.
Lyra took a quick glance at me before dashing off with Thane. Now standing alone in the library, I let out a sigh of huge relief. Lyra has such an intimidating aura.
After catching my breath for a few seconds, I approached the shelf stand where I had seen the scroll, but it was missing.
My eyes widened in horror, and I frantically searched the shelf next to it just in case I was mistaken, but I found nothing. In despair, I searched the whole library but found nothing.
Dejected, I sat among the piles of historical books and scrolls when a loud, angry voice yelled at me.
“Look what this outsider has done.”
I looked up to find an old weary man looking down at me with anger. “I tend to the library every day, making sure the books are arranged according to the Lycan’s order and look at what you've done.”
“I am sorry,” I apologised profusely as I stood up to begin to arrange the books.
“That would take you a million years,” He scoffed at my attempt to arrange the books.
“Use your wolf strength and stop acting like a pathetic human,”
I looked at him, my feet rooted to the ground.
Ever since that night that Ryder had banished me from Raven’s Peak, I had lost sight of my wolf. I had not told anyone, not even Kael.
I let out a nervous chuckle, “ I…uhh…it's an act of relaxing the muscles,” I said before I added. “Being indoors all day is suffocating. Even if it takes years, at least I would have work to do.” I finished attempting to continue arranging the books.
The old man shifted me aside and I moved by almost a mile away from him. He looked weak and yet had that much strength.
“Leave and let me do my business. If you want to work your muscles, you should join them in the kitchen,” he mocked.
“Since when have you been tendering to the library,” I asked.
“Instead of looking for a pep talk, why not try to revive your silent wolf,” he dropped.
My eyes widened in horror as I stuttered, “How…how…did you know?”
Despite the few days that I had spent here, even Kael hadn’t noticed despite our long interactions but this old man noticed within minutes?
The old man kept mute while I watched on, only to realise he was done with arranging the shelf with a stack of books.
“Have you ever seen a scroll with the pictures of a couple?” I asked but received no their reply.
I took that as an initiative to go back to my room.
Upon opening the door, I saw a strange figure in my room arranging my bed.
“Who are you?” I asked, cautiously.
The figure turned to me and I immediately yelled “Lila”
She also yelled my name and we ran to each other and hugged.
“Oh, moon goddess! You are here?” Lila asked in excitement.
At Raven’s peak, Lila was my friend. She was an omega, but that didn’t stop our friendship, especially when I saw I wasn’t too different from her.
“What are you doing here?” I paused, realising that she was in Eldrid.
“The Lycan asked me to tend to you, but I didn’t know it was you. But I am glad it was you,” she squealed in excitement.
“No, I mean, why are you not in Raven’s peak?”
“After you got banished, I was hurt at what Alpha Ryder did to you. So, when it was time for him to mate with his luna, I spiked his drink with moonflower pine making him miss the mating season,” she explained. “I was caught and he cast me to the rogues but luckily for me, Vega wasn’t in territory that day, so I ran to Eldrid for protection.”
“Ryder got himself a new luna?” I asked, trying to keep my voice from quivering.
“Aria,” Lila held my shoulder and pulled me in for a hug.
“He banished you so he could marry the daughter of Aiden from the shadows pack. Immediately after their marriage, he became the alpha and was given part of shadows pack shares and also given access to some resources we weren’t privy to. He attends the alpha’s yearly meeting that the lower caste packs couldn’t attend before.”
Lila went on to feed me information about Raven’s peak but all were about Ryder and those revelations shattered my heart more.
After Lila had retired to her room after we had finished catching up, I went to look for Kael. I needed his help to sleep tonight because I doubt if I would be getting any.
I searched everywhere for him until I got to his study. One of the guards had told me if I didn’t see him in his study, then I should go back to my room. The door creaked open and I saw him sprawled on the couch in the study.
It walked in quietly while closing the door gently.
It was my first time seeing Kael like this. He was vulnerable unlike the guarded Kael I was used to.
He was mumbling some words, so I scrouched down to hear what he was saying and the words I picked were, “ my baby, my love”
I furrowed my eyebrows and figured he was thinking about his first love which he had hinted about before.
I tried getting up to leave when his hand held me back, he was glaring at me and his eyes were glinting in the dark.
Before I could wriggle my wrist out of his grip, he had pinned me on the couch with his weight hovering over me.
“Let me go,” I shook my leg vigorously.
“Stop fighting me,” his husky voice said calmly like he was begging.
I stopped fighting and stayed still. His eyes kept glowing in the dark study which gave me enough light to see his eyes flickering from my eyes to my lips.
“What –” I managed to say, before he leaned in, his breath warm against my skin.
“Tell me to stop,” he said and I swallowed hard. After hesitating for a few seconds, he crashed his lips into mine. First, it was aggressive, like someone was coming to stop him, then it was gentle and passionate. His grip loosened on my hand and his fingers trailed my body sending shivers down my spine as he pulled my gown up.
“I love you so much, Reine,” he murmured against my breast.
“Who is Reine?”
I watched him as he stiffened.
