Chapter 6 Aria’s POV Kael watched me as I cried my eyes out, unsure of what to do. At last, he managed to ask, “ Are you okay?” Wiping out the tears from my eyes, I nodded. “Sorry for yelling at you, I thought it was…” I tried to say before he interrupted me. “Ryder?” He said before he continued, “ Your mate that banished you from the pack?” He asked. I could only nod my head. “This is Eldrid. There is no way he would have gotten in,” he replied. “ Be rest assured that you are safe here,” He added gently. “It must have been my mind playing tricks on me,” I replied as I turned to go back to my room. “Let me walk you back,” Kael said, and without waiting for my response, he walked ahead of me while I stood still, not moving. “Come on,” he admonished. I joined him as we walked through the hallway to my room, taking turns in each corner. “What were you looking for in the library?” He asked. “Ummm….A….b…book,” I stuttered. Ryder had messed up my mind I had forgotten that I had seen the pictures of my parents in this pack. A lot of questions ran through my mind. Have my parents ever been to Eldrid? I fought the urge to ask Kael the questions going through my mind. “Here we are,” I said as we stopped in front of the door to my room. “Ryder,” Kael started. “ Did you love him?” He asked. “He was my first love and mate,” I replied. “I guess that’s why it's hard to let go. The thing about first love is that no matter the hurt, you just can never let go of them.” He said. At that moment, I noticed the hurt on his face; it was the first time I would ever see him like this. His face was always stoic and he carried himself with a high aura. “You have a first love?” I asked. In that instant he moved near to me, his face nearly almost an inch away from mine. And for the first time since I have been here, I caught his scent. A mix of wood and something more dangerous. I watched as his hands reached for my face and cupped it in his palms. I swallowed the lump gathering in my throat as I looked up at him. But then slowly, I began to feel sleepy. I let out a loud yawn and he released his hand from my face. “ I guess you will be able to sleep soundly tonight,” he said. “What did you do?” I asked. “I just soothe you to sleep. I thought you would be thinking of Ryder all through the night and wouldn’t be able to get a good sleep,” he replied. “I thought only mates could use that on themselves,” I said. Mated wolves can soothe each other to sleep using any means possible, but Kael just did this when I was not even his mate. “I guess not only mates could do that,” he said before biding me a goodnight and walking back to his chamber. Not long before I lay on my bed, I was fast asleep. A loud knock kept banging on the door and I forced myself to stand up to go open the door. “Kael,” I said, surprised to see him standing in front of my door. He let himself into my room and closed the door behind him. “ I kept thinking of you and can’t let go.” I parted my lips to speak but I was cut short by his lips crashing against mine. My breath hitched, unsure of what was happening and he pressed his lips deeper into my tongue. His hand reached for the hem of my dress and pulled it up to caress my thigh. He carried me and plopped me on the bed when his mouth gently trailed my neck. A loud knock on the door made me groan. Another knock. There was another knock, and I woke up in shock. It was a dream. I opened the door to see Thane standing by the door frame. “ The Lycan asks to see you.” “Okay,” I said. He turned to leave when he stopped to ask, “ What did you eat that your cheeks are red?” Without replying to him, I slammed the door shut. I met Kael at the training ground; he was shirtless, and the lucid dream I had flashed through my head, but I shook it off. “You seem like you had a good night's sleep, seeing as you are just waking up at noon,” he said. “Well, that was your handiwork,” I replied as I joined him in the training grounds where he threw me a sword. “A sword?” I looked at him amusingly. All these while I had been using a stick to train but a sword. “I figured we should expedite our training process,” he said. “Eldrid is a sacred land, and people are vetted before coming, so has anyone from Raven’s Peak been here?” I asked as I lunged at him with the sword. “No,” he answered. “How did my parent's picture get to Eldrid?” I thought to myself. “Has Ryder been here?” I asked. “My land doesn’t welcome just anybody,” he replied before he tripped me down. “Have you ever been in love?” I asked, and immediately tripped him down. The word “love” is the almighty Lycan Kael’s weakness After the training drill, I went back to my room to shower but the lucid dream I had about Kael kept coming back to mind. Immediately I was done, I went to the library to clear my mind and probably do some research as to why my parent’s picture was in Eldrid’s library. The library door was locked. How ironic. A library door is never locked. I immediately sensed that Kael already knew what I was up to and had locked the library. I was not going to back down, so I walked to the other side of the library where the windows were and luckily for me, it wasn’t that high. I moved a few bricks and used them as stepping stones to enter the library. There, at a corner, was Lyra against the wall with Thane on his knees and one of her legs on his shoulders. I tried to sneak back when I crashed onto a table causing their heads to turn towards me.
